Hey i was just wondering if any one is aware of schoolies??? well here in australia... all the year 12s graduate and head down to the gold coast (well most of us) some head to other places and we drink, go to the beach and party hard... i was just wondering if any one here celebrates schoolies overseas or is heading to the gold coast if you are an ozzie?
 
Schoolies is a fairly new phenomenon, I don't remember it being around when I finished school back in ahem... '89. We used to keep the booze-ups and trouble-making local back in those days. You said "head down to the Gold Coast", are you in Brisbane? Alot of Melbourne teens go up to the Gold Coast for Schoolies too. Looks like heaps of fun.

For the unfortunate amongst you who are not Aussies, Schoolies is a phenomenon where thousands of high school students who have finished their final year exams, from all over the country, descend upon The Gold Coast region of Queensland for several days of binge drinking, partying, and just generally running amok. The Gold Coast is a holiday mecca for Aussies, featuring high-rise appartments and several theme parks. I think it's something like Fort Lauderdale during Spring Break, if I learned anything from watching bad '80s American teen "comedies".
 
Man, I have two major upsets now:

1. Why don't I live in Australia?
2. Why am I old, and have graduated high school many moons ago?


Sounds like fun.

oh...so like hitting Cancun...right...awesome....nope, havent graduated....so, cant say that ive done that...
 
Hmm, sorta. We call it Beach Week. The week after graduation a bunch of friends would get together and rent a house for a week, at a beach within driving distance of home. My graduating class had quite a few people down at Virginia Beach (mostly because it's the closest) but most of us made the trek down to Folly Beach in Charleston, South Carolina. Of course, the administration at my high school technically discouraged this tradition..but they couldn't really do anything about it. It. Was. A. Blast. There were four girls and three guys in my house (well, the house I stayed in...not MY house...) and kids from my high school filled up about 7 of the houses on the street. So fun! Sleep all morning, beach all afternoon, drinking all night. Lol, It was great for a week, but I don't think I'd want to live that way.
