Schwarzenegger For President

He couldn't handle California, how can he handle the whole country?

But no, I don't think the Constitution should be changed. Though of course, we already have a President who wan't born here so it's probably not far away lol

"we already have a President who wan't born here" made me LOL
No, I don't think anyone other than an American should be allowed be President of the States. I know I wouldn't like for anyone other than Irish person to lead my country.

As for Arnie...well, I'll leave you with Mr. Moran.

You should have to be born in US to run in my opinion is the way it should always be...he's not even raised in the US since he still has his strong accent i'm guessing...and like others said he can't even handle CA

I'm surprised that no one's posted this yet.

To me that sounds harsh. Being raised is another thing. Or lived x years or be an american citizen for x years to be allowed to run. But not even coming to America at age 3 or younger for example is "good enough" not to have a chance at becoming president? Almost all americans have roots in other countries anyway. What are you so afraid of? Not like I mean that anyone should be able to become a leader of a country or anything. Of course there has to be some kind of restriction.

In the case of Arnold I don't doubt that he wants to run for president. I don't think it's a good idea though.

Well that was my fault for not including raised is which i also meant to put...I'm not afraid of anything my parents weren't born in the US..just like i wasn't born in Puerto Rico...all though i have roots and been there various times throughout my life doesn't mean i should be able to run there cause techniqually I'm not one of them...how should I know whats best for them if I never really expierenced their lifestyle and problems...it's like a white man fighting for black power..you could read all you want but you'll still never really have the hands on experience...i was just guessing Arnold wasn't raised here cause of his accent but i could be wrong..either way he is a bad choice..but once again good vid 🙂 i wanted to post it

We'll put it down as a mistake then. By you or me for not understanding we can always discuss.;)

Totally, totally agree. There are enough loopholes in our Constitution as it is, without having to change anything. I'm sure if Ahnuld looked hard enough he'd find one.

I was just guessing Arnold wasn't raised here cause of his accent but i could be wrong..

I'm lazy so I won't give you another source. But if you trust wikipedia Arnold moved to America 1968 and became an american citizen in 1983.

So the interesting question is if more than 40 years in a country and being a citizen of said country for more than 25 years is enough for running for president or not. Please think about it in general and not about Arnold specificly. It's here that I need to do some thinking. I haven't made my mind up. And is there a difference to you (in general terms) to run for governor and president?

Considering his time in the country his accent is way too bad but that shouldn't matter should it? Isn't he in a way the american dream?

When I watched Demolition man for the first time I thought the idea of Arnold as president was cool. Young and naive and all that. But since Ronald Reagan had been an actor I didn't think much more of it. Not like I thought Arnold would become a politician. But I wholeheartedly think it would be bad for the country if he became president.

I'm not sure how i feel about the 25yrs as a citizen yet...it's tricky...i guess most importantly it would be what was the person doing with those 25-40 yrs that makes him/her qualified to be the leader/representer of the free nation.

Honestly for me i feel the President should be working to serve all the hard working Americans, etc...and every President i've witnessed supports its supporters/donators...I'm not a fan of any President i've been alive to witness, and my opinions on them would most likely be biased...lol so maybe i'm not the right person to debate on these politicans however i will say there's a big difference from running a state and country..so i could see the ease on the governor over the president..but yeah accent shouldn't matter if you understand and speak the language at a high enough level for government but it still would feel wierd lol

And when I saw Demolition Man when it came out I thought it was cool for the Terminator to be President too..lol those crazy youths

There is some suggestion that he wasn't actually born in Hawaii - I'm not an idiot, I know that Hawaii is a state. Now, can we drop it cause it's OT. Thanks.

My opinion, but if it came right down to it, I'd cast my vote for the Governator.

He's the lesser of the evil(s).

That's what I said about McCain, but Obama still won.
About the being born in a country: sorry, but that is total bs. Even leaving out special cases of children born on vacations abroad and the like (and only in some of those country you get that citizenship then, like in France or the US...not in Germany though, in case anyone was wondering. Which would also mean that children born in the US to foreign parents that spend most of their subsequent life somewhere else would be able to run for president.
I know a girl from uni who is German, has German parents, but was born in the US because her dad was working there at the time. When she was 2, they moved back to Germany. As far as I know, she hasn't been to the States ever since, but she does still hold American citizenship. Should she be allowed to run for president?

But again, away from that special case.
My entire family was born in countries that do not even exist anymore (Sowjet Union and the GDR, in case anyone was wondering)...would that take away all possibility for any of us ever to become president, anywhere?

In my opinion, citizenship is what should count. In case of dual citizenship, place of residence (in the past and present) could be the deciding point. When you choose to be part of a country, to (in some cases...like for Germany/Russia, dual citizenship is officially not possible and only granted in rare cases) leave your old country behind and from thereone live under the flag of that new nation, why shouldn't you be granted all the rights natives have as well? Isn't that actually discrimination based on origin? I don't know about to the US, but in Germany that's illegal!
There's a reason why citizenships aren't too easy to obtain. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to become an American citizen, you must've lived there for at least 5 years, 2 if you're married to an American, right? Shouldn't that be enough to become fully integrated into the country? On top, there's citizenship tests one has to pass, so only people who comprehend American laws, politics and culture are actually granted citizenship. American citizen should be American citizen. No matter if by birth or naturalization. (-> which is why I'm not a fan of those citizenships just thrown to anyone born in the country, but with to other affiliations).

Also, it's not as if just anyone can become president. I'm not entirely sure how the American system works, but I do know that there are elections enough. If people thought someone wasn't American enough to be president, I'm sure they wouldn't let him get that far anyway.

That said, I don't think Schwarzenegger should be president, ever, but not because he wasn't born in America.

About the dual citizenship thing, I believe, though I'm not certain, that someone in that situation has until a certain age (21, I think) to choose one citizenship or the other. If they choose to become U S citizens, they have to establish permanent residence here for a certain amount of time before in order to qualify. Otherwise, their citizenship automatically becomes the other country.

I think...
