We're told it's down to six candidates.Want to know who they are?

Now that the new Man of Steel has been minted by Bryan Singer, one of the remaining casting mysteries for the new SUPERMAN film is: who will play Lois Lane?

This new scooper claims to know who it's down to and told us the six actresses that are supposedly on the callback list. We know the ID of our scooper and they also told us where (in a roundabout fashion) that they heard this info from and they claim it comes from a reliable contact of theirs. Three of the names mentioned on the list have been referred to on other websites, so perhaps the scooper is also tapped into the same source that these other reports are originating from. For now, take it with a grain of salt as we don't have a prior history with our new pal -- but if it turns out that the new Lois does indeed comes from this list, then we've got a new contact that has earned our trust.

According to the scooper, these six actresses are presently frontrunners for the part of Lois Lane in SUPERMAN. In alphabetical order they are:

Mischa Barton (THE O.C.)

Charisma Carpenter (ANGEL)

Mia Kirshner (THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS)

Evangeline Lilly (LOST)

Natalie Portman (STAR WARS: ATTACK OF THE CLONES)

Keri Russell (FELICITY)

We've seen three of the actresses mentioned before. Barton and Portman have been both linked as being a possible Lois for a number of months now, and two days ago the movie website JoBlo.com was the first to report Evangeline Lilly as another candidate. That site's source also told them that Singer had narrowed the short list down to four names, two less than what we were told it stands at.

It would be such a disappointment if Mischa Barton got the part. She has yet to really prove herself and is only 17 or 18...Lois is an established reporter most likely in her late 20's, early 30's.

I doubt Mischa would win the part. She's too young.I agree, she has to prove herself worthy of the part.I hope Amy Acker, or Charisma make it.I really wish the buffyverse stars great success!🙂

I also like Evangeline Lilly for the role, as I love her on Lost and she actually looks the part. But my hopes are with Charisma all the way!!!

I don't think Natalie would do it, since shes done too much sci-fi stuff with the Star Wars prequels.

Kerry Russel would be great, although she doesn't look the part. Exact opposite for Charisma who looks perfect but I don't think she yet has the credentials.

Mischa is too young and besides from being a pretty face shes not much else (aka her acting isn't that great, but hey what do I know, I've only saw her act on the O.C.).

Honestly I can't imagine anyone besides Terri Hatcher being Lois, its just how it is to me.

Really? I like her, though I agree she is too young. But I really liked her in Ring of Endless Light. I'm surprised that the OC is the only thing you've seen her in. You've never watched Sixth Sense? You just seem like the type that would have.

I agree with Jacklyn and like the idea of Evangeline Lily (it would be a very wise choice, IMO.) Although, Natalie, I think, could work any role.

I've seen it, but it was years ago, so no decent recollection.

I think I don't like her acting on the O.C. is because of the whole teen angst that she has to portray. I mean I love the O.C. but some of the acting isn't the best. Kirsten and Sandy are great actors, but you can chalk up that to tenure and Seth has that unique style. But I hate how Marrisa is portrayed as such a drama queen whiney baby and Ryan sometimes is just a horrible actor, in my opinion.

And the huge deal is that she is far too young. Maybe she could have been Lois on Smallville (Which is kinda hard to see now that Erica Durance is etched into my mind as a long Lois), but not as a post College Lois.

I've probably seen this Evangeline Lily, but I can't put a face to the name.

Thanks hun.

She does have what it requires in the looks department, but I've never seen her acting.

I wonder how old the Clark Kent in this movie is going to be?

This whole movie thing makes me think about how Smallville will have to end one day *Tear*

And I honestly can't contemplate a movie right now because engraved in my mind is Tom Welling as Clark and Erica Durance as Lois.

Mischa's part in the Sixth Sense didn't even register on the radars...it wasn't until she joined the cast of the O.C. that she was even acknowleged for it.
