Scotland's Independence

I don't really care to be honest. If the people of Scotland want it and can definitely support themselves as a country economically then more power to them. I don't think it's right for people in London to be making decisions about what happens in Scotland, despite them having their own assembly.

It would be nice if we were all united, but it's hardly going to be the end of the world if they become independent.

agree, if they want it i can see them supporting themselves.

Well, The first minister(main man) is going for it in 2yrs, he wants full inependence. Eg, no more Britain.
I think every nation or people has the right to self-determination. It would be a huge moment in history if it did go ahead. There will certainly be economic and societsl consequences and I'd fully expect the Scottish economy to suffer for awhile, but it is nothing that cannot be built upon and nurtured. I say fair play to them.

I imagine they think it would be similar to Ireland. Roughly same size/population.
Could someone explain me/link me the reasons why Scotland wants independence? I know it's my bad, but I really don't understand all this patriotic things. I could understand Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland wanting independence if thw whole country were "England"...but it's not. It's Britain. To my eyes (I'm half welsh), it's not disrespectful at all.

Because they are a nation. When the rest of world thinks of Britain, they think of The Queen, London or Man united etc.
I thought that the Irish problems stemmed from religious issues.
Not to sure what started the running battles with the Scottish - English thing, but if Scotland wants independence, let them have it.

There were loads of factors in the trouble, goes all the way back to the potato famine. Religion and the desire for a United Ireland were contributing factors though

I think they should do a sort of "trial run" with it to be honest. For 1 year they are still apart of Britain,but recieve nothing just as they would being independant. Atleast that with it if goes pair shaped then as much as they hate it,they have something to fall back on.

It's a risk but if they can keep the economy on steady terms then they should be ok.

Good idea but it sounds like a logistic nightmare in terms of paperwork, laws, etc

I don't know if the term "republic" properly describes Scotland's new form of government, but I definitely feel that they should have their own choice in just what their government should be.
 
Of course they should. I've thought Scotland should have had complete independence years ago. Too long has it been under the rule of England, and even now with a Scottish government, they don't have enough power. So in that case, what's the point in having your own government if you're still really ruled by another country?
