Did anyone watch?

I liked it in theory, but I feel like it's got to do better the next few episodes. The opening sequence was terrific, but the rest of the episode wasn't as good. I'm not sure the casting was all that great - it's like they pulled a bunch of cookie cutter young actors and threw them in. I think Emma and Kieran are the standouts. Everyone else just kind of blended into the background.

The references to other horror films was good, as long as it doesn't become a crutch for the show. It feels like Gossip Girl meets Halloween lol - I was waiting for Ghost Face to say "XOXO" lol
 
Yeah I don't think they were meant to be cardboard cutouts, I think it's the "we have too many characters to adequately introduce in one episode" syndrome.

Actually I was thinking THAT was done on purpose too.. think back to what the one character said "you cant do slasher films on TV because they burn fast and bright" so they purposefully introduce everyone slower so that they can toy with your perception of the character. 'This one did it' 'That one did it' then slowly reveal more. They have 10 hours to fill whereas a typical horror movie has an hour and a half. I think thats why they didnt really introduce the characters.

But my optimism my be getting the better of me, I freely admit that.
 
I think they will slowly introduce the characters over the first 5-6 episodes and then start killing them off at the end. Background characters will bite it first, and it will become more of a murder mystery and tauntings until the final 2-3 episodes where more of the main people are taken out. I thoroughly enjoyed the pilot and think it will do the movies justice. I really like Emma and Audrey. And the smart kid, Noah. And the new kid. I dont remember his name. I'm not a fan of Emma's mom, and I'd love for her to be killed off based on bad acting alone.

I was waiting for him to say "have a nice night"-it suits the scene better than "XOXO" 😛

The show has some weak parts, but I liked it and definitely will be watching the rest of the season.

(Never watched any of the movies, but heard that they are much better than the TV show, so will probably start them once I have the chance)
 
From what I am reading, I think that the show is a little weak. I have not seen an episode because I do not want to get disappointed. It seems that the show is not knocking everyone's socks off. Just another teen show that has a serial killer in it.
 
There's been quite a few attempts to make a 'slasher' TV series recently. 'The Following' (not very good) and 'Stalker' (both by Kevin Williamson the guy behind the original Scream).

I also remember quite a good show back in 09 called 'Harper's Island' which was classic slasher/whodunit. It starred 'Elaine Cassidy' somebody I always forget I have a huge crush on until she appears onscreen. Great actress as well.

I remember Kevin Williamson being an awesome writer back in the day.
His last series have not sparked my interest though

Stalker was slick and well acted but a bit shallow and predictable. I'm not surprised that it was cancelled.

I'm astonished that The Following is on its 3 season. The world's stupidest FBI agents hunt an equally stupid serial killer/cult followers. I felt that it was all utterly tired and contrived by halfway through the first season.
The thing is that I like Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy but not enough to stomach the idiocy.

I think it is the attention span we are in right now. Can we trully be engaged with a series for 22 episodes. Not since Buffy have I been so engaged in a series where I could not miss an episode.

This day in age I watch The Flash and The Big Bang Theory on a regular basis. If I miss an episode is not the end of the world. But if I missed a Buffy episode... the world was not prepared for my wrath...

Yes. The first half was actually GOOD! Then towards the end of the first season EVERYONE was in the damn cult. It lost its credibility. But the first half I really liked.

Exactly. Really it was a 1 season, 10 episode idea that they tried to stretch.

The premise of the show was awesome. The execution was just poor. Imagine now the series being 10 episodes long. Or being on Netflix. The series and the tone changes
 
I feel like it will get better, as long as they actually toy with our emotions and go through with killing off beloved characters that receive build-up.

I also wonder what the formula will be if they have more than one season. Maybe Emma's story will continue and the killer will still be at large after season one, or it will be an anthology show with different characters and actors season to season. I'll be disappointed if the show turns out great and they only do the one season. I say keep going as long as it doesn't get stale.
 
Because so much of modern TV is full of pop culture references anyway and because at least the first two Scream movies were really great then I don't see much point to this. The only thing I guess is because they are likely to keep making the films for awhile yet then maybe in TV form they can at least do something a little bit different which the films no longer can.

It actually feels very Harper's Island. I was actually going to say it was Harper's Island mixed with Gossip Girl but I didn't think many people would get the HI part lol

Watched the first episode of Scream tS and agree that its HI meets...any teen show ever.
All a bit cliche- jock cheated on good girl with queen bitch, popular (nice) good girl used to be friends with outsider girl, Mom with dark secret/tragic past, hunky young teacher and affair with student (classy!), creepy urban legend/origin story (every town has one), hunky (but strange) new guy, obnoxious jocks, etc.

I hope this starts seriously subverting those teen slasher tropes soon, otherwise why bother calling it 'Scream?'
