OK how the hell did this thing get here?
In season 1 - 6 there has always been a hellmouth and in S4 episoe 'Doomed' we actually saw the Hellomuth it was a big hole whit no seal no Uber Vamps. So how come this time all of these things are in abundance>
Sorry S7 left a lot of questions with no answers for me (See; Why did the first attack?)

Interesting question..I wish I had an explanation, but I'm sure someone on here will...can't wait to see it 🙂

The seal may have been put there through mystical means after the school was rebuilt, to prevent anyone from accessing the hellmouth until the First was ready for them to.

It could also be that this was a different entrance to the hellmouth that was always there, but no one knew about it but the First. When the school was rebuilt, the hellmouth hole from "Doomed" was filled in (they probably assumed it was the result of the school being blown up, or the "Doomed" earthquake), but the seal was left untouched until Andrew and Jonathan uncovered it in CwDP.

I'm just randomly guessing, though.

I always thought that there was different parts to the Hellmouth...

The big hole place was under the school library in Season 4, that was one part of the Hellmouth, I just assumed its like a huge underground cavern, and the Seal of Danzalthar was something that hadnt been opened before...

If you want an explanation, about why The First attacked, read the transcript for buffy season 7 ep, "Show Time, on Buffyworld.com.Read the Beljora's a eye part.I'm not sure if thats how you spell Beljora.Anyways, If you want to ask anymore questions about season 7, please ask me.And I'll be glad to answer them.BTW it's Seas Of*, not od.I'm sure you knew that too.But you just accidently licked d, instead of f.Anyways, you should ask a admin, to edit it.

It could be that the seal was there all along, but not exposed until they rebuilt the school. Maybe it was covered in the layout of the old school, but not in the new building. The hellmouth entrance used to be below the library...there might not have been access under there, but there seemed to be access under the Principal's office, where the hellmouth was now located under.

Another explanation which could be offered is that it might have been hidden by some mystical force and then the school was blown up and it was destroyed. As if it was hidden or not they could have dug to get it. Like in Bad Eggs where they would get the 'hosts' to break the cement to harvest the eggs below. Its been a little while since i've watched season 7 so just throwing some ideas around.

I think the wrighters(like in all shows) had made a big mistake with it.....they awasy do things like that....it's normal for buffy to have those mistakes and like the tv show charmed has them too

Andrew and Jonathan had todo a lot of diggin to get to it, if no one else knew where to look than its understandable it was overlooked before.

Theres any number of explanations that can be given for its sudden existence. The easiest of which is that Sunnydale was on the Hellmouth and things like that turn up all the time so we have some interesting episodes to watch.

I like your idea, it seems more likely then anything. That it was put there threw mystical means, or it was another entrance to the hellmouth. How lame would it be if there was just one way into hell. And its posable that the seal was always there and was the orignal door, but like the part under the Libaray might havej ust been where that demon just came up from randomly. And the seal could've been hidden threw layers and layers of dirt and cement. Because was we saw in Bad Eggs, that the students had to dig threw a pretty thick later of cement and dirt to get to that prehistoric monster. So the Seal could've been further down into the dirt.
But as a person above said, there could be many explanations.

I can't remember where the exact references are so I'm just musing, but don't several of the characters mention how difficult it is to find their way around in the basement?

I think either Dawn, Kit, or Carlos mention it in Lessons. I'm pretty sure Xander mentions it in regard to blueprints or something, and I'm almost positive Andrew says something about when he's taking the Scoobs to the seal. (Is it Bring On the Night?)

I seem to remember someone suggesting "it's like things are changing around down there".

Perhaps this is a clue to the mystery of the seal.

Another thing I'm not sure about, but might mean something; isn't there some suggestion in Storyteller that mystical power is emanating from the seal and that's why everyone in the school is going nuts? In other words the seal has mystical power that can affect it's environment.

The School did seem to be going a lot more "nuts" in S7 than when Buffy & the gang were in H.S. Maybe they had demon construction workers on the rebuilding staff who planted it 😀

Also was the Bad Eggs thing a basement? I can't remember. I got the feeling they were going sideways into existing caverns. The doomed thing could have been a cavern created when the foundation fell in on it, as a result of the fire.

Didn't someone say something about the possibility the basement was something new put into the new school.

Didn't older architecture often come with crawl-spaces as opposed to fully dug basements?

That's what I said in an earlier post...that it was architectural design that led to the exposure of the seal.

In one episode not sure which one but I believe it was the one whree Buffy just went to work and then dudes head exploded and her and Wood were talking, and she said that all these thigns are happening so fast, instead of them happening over a 4 year time like it did when they were in HS. She said that instead of all these thigns happening over a span of time, that they were instead happenign rather quickly then usual.
And I believe it was due to all hell breaking loose and The First having some hand it in it and stuff.

It was you was it, Cordelia? I knew I heard someone say it.

So that's my theory then. It's a hybrid of all the stuff the rest of you have said.

When they dig a deeper basement for the new school it becomes possible to physically reach the seal in the new school.

The seal was hidden from other entrances to the hellmouth previously because as has been shown, it can at least partially manipulate it's environment.

Andrew can identify the exact location in CWDP, because he is being guided by the First.

Another possibility: The Seal may not be so much a physical doorway as a mystical one leading to another area of the Hell dimension entirely, rather than the one that would have been reached if they'd just walked down to Master country.

Oh yeah and Fallen, the episode you're thinking of is Storyteller.
