Season 10 Spuffy ending

Reminder to posters: this thread is in a Spuffy fan club.

Is Spuffy season 10 coming to an end? Looks like a conflict is coming in episode 28 or so. Am I crazy to think that we could have gotten a few more issues of happiness? I though we were safe until season 11 anyway.

I ain't heard no fat lady singing yet, and, even if there is a split up at the end of this Season, who's to say that there won't be a reconciliation in Season 11? Remember, both of Buffy's previous serious relationships (Riley & Angel) lasted two Seasons before going South (Season 3 Bangel doesn't really count, since they both knew by then that it wasn't ever going to work, barring a miracle, like, say, Angel mysteriously becoming human once more, and having the good sense not to throw his great opportunity away. I look for the same pattern with Spuffy. Two years of happiness, not without its bad moments, then Buffy letting another lover slip through her fingers. The girl just never seems to learn!

I hope so! The spoilers could also be a red herring designed to make us think it is ending when it is not. Joss has definitely tried to mislead viewers on his story direction before. There are still people who don't know Spike purposely went to seek a soul just because Joss tries to hide his intentions.

They know it, because everyone involved in the story, including Joss himself, on several different occasions, has affirmed that, yes, Spike went to Africa for the one and only purpose of regaining his soul. The problem is, they simply refuse to accept it.

I know, but they really don't want to believe it so they have come up with lots of reasons to prove that they're right. Weird but what evs...live and let live.

Well, the cover with Angel and Buffy was very telling, she walking away from him at the airport, with a resolute expression, and the cross floating in the air, and it was exactly what happened in the story: Angel belonged to her past, he came and went away without making much fuss. Also, the most recent covers have been very explicit: Dawn opening a lock with Spike and Buffy watching, Xander falling in a hole/dimension, Xander and Dawn among demons etc.

The cover in question has Spike walking away and Buffy crying, so I suppose it's him leaving her for some reason (probably because of something that happened to Dawn).

But there can be other variations to that: the blurb says that all the Scoobies are mad at her, so it could mean that, this time, Buffy has done something that even Spike thinks it was a wrong move (like mess with the book), and the cover is just expressing that; problems in paradise, conflict, drama - but not a separation.

Of course, we all are used to (or traumatized by) Joss's curse, and it's too much to expect that Buffy would go on being happy with her boyfriend (she herself and also Xander said she is happy), but also would be too sad (and shallow) if a couple who love each other - she already said that she is in love with him - can't deal with the first big problem in the relationship, and the solution is to split up after so little time together.

Actually, I have no idea how it will gonna play.

The parallels are too strong to ignore. And in the end, all she has is her plantation which, suspiciously enough, is called Tara. Sounds like Joss read the book and decided to keep the ending.

Actually, Joss said that Buffy and Spike are like Beatrice and Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing... 😉

Buffy and Spike's relationship is cut from the Beatrice and Benedick template in more ways than one. The pair trade insults just as furiously as their Elizabethan counterparts, and after five seasons of sarcasm and verbal abuse comes a declaration of love few would have predicted upon their first meeting. To top off the comparison, in season four's Something Blue, the couple is even tricked into infatuation with one another via a love spell, a classic Shakespearean comedy scenario the punch lines of which are very like what befalls Beatrice and Benedick.
