I have always loved season 4, I know it gets a lot of flack because of the initiative and such... but it's pretty much my favorite season.

All else aside, I personally consider it the funniest season. There are so many classic, silly moments and episodes. Even from the very first scene in The Freshman.

Any one else agree?

Some of my favorites:

Living Conditions
Fear Itself
Beer Bad (when Buffy bashes Parker over the head... classic!)
PANGS (probably my favorite... "yes, let's talk about this some more...")
Something Blue
Doomed (Specifically, Spike living with Xander. And the "dont turn around" bit...)
A New Man ("actually, i feel quite well... except for the rage")
Superstar
Restless

What about you?

I think Spike is what made this season so funny. He was a lot funnier before he got all Buffy-smitten and they gave him tons of hilarious lines throughout the season. The addition of Anya also helped in the humor department.

Favorite lines/scenes:

"Can I be blind too?"
"I always worried what would happen when that bitch got some funding!"
"Imaginary Xander is quite the machine."
Spike's speech at the end of Doomed
Giles chasing after Professor Walsh
Drunk Giles

^ I totally agree, Spike and Anya really made this season they were really funny.

I agree that Season 4 was the funniest, I think it was very lighthearted compared to the others.

I really enjoyed this season, it really does have some funny bits. Beer Bad springs to mind.

I always thought I hated season 4, but I realised that I actually only hate the Initiative and Adam. You're right, it has some of the very best stand-alone episodes of the entire show. It's hilarious! Plus, I do love neutered Spike and Giles and their bickering.

haha yes! some classics! I forgot about the line that spike says when he wakes up in the initiative... "I always worried what would happen when t hat bitch got some funding!" So frikkin hilarious!

And I love Spike's speech at the end of Doom, and the way Willow and Xander are just staring at him like "wtf..." and he's going on about saving kittens and humanity... "oh, COMMON!"

Oh man, and the scene in Pangs where Willow, Anya, and Xander are riding their bikes to the rescue, and that dramatic music is playing in the background. And every time someone sees Angel, they're like "YOU'RE EVIL AGAIN!"

I agree with Vengeance. I love Chipped!Spike. He's so funny and S4 is so funny. I love the Hawaiian shirt scene the most. 😀

I think season 4 is hilarious. Season 5 has some really funny parts too but season 4 is funnier overall. Something Blue is my favorite episode of the season of course 🙂

I think it is Spike that defo makes season 4. i watched doomed the other week and the ending still has me in stiches! I think when i first watched it I felt exactly like willow and xander - I was sitting thinking "WTF" - it was just really unexpected of Spike, classic moment!

It might very well be the funniest season.
Especially Anya is brilliant throughout the season. Chipped Spike was also hilarious in the beginning.

Hush might not be the funniest episode but the scene with Giles and the overhead projector is among the funniest things I've ever seen.

Well yeah, overall it might be the funniest season!
In Beer Bad CaveBuffy made me laugh my a** off! Really!!! And in A new Man, when Giles got out of the car to chase Prf Walsh, I burst out laughing...I couldn't stop!:biggrin3:

Also Hush, Something Blue, some moments in Pangs. I agree with Vengeance, before they make the ridiculous stalker-Spike story in s5, Spike ruled!!! He was still evil but I liked it when he helped the Scooby Gang!

Yes it is the funniest season by a mile. Others seasons had some hilarious episodes(see Band Candy in s3), but not as many as in s4. The whole thing with Spike living with Giles, then Xander, was really a great idea. 'Ooooooooooo Xander!!!'(imitating Anya) rofl!

Season 4 was a great season for full stop but especially for comedy. Spike was integral to this season as he provided so many great moments. The scene where Buffy taunts him in the bath and he asks Giles to tell her to stop. My favourite scene though is:

Spike: "Passions is on, Timmy's down the bloody well, and if you make me miss it i'll
Giles: "You'll do what? Lick me to death

I definitely agree that S4 is almost certainly the most hilarious of the seasons, though I feel this is in no small part due to the poor main story arc of the season creating the need for a great deal of comedic filler to compensate. I say this largely because I feel that the humor present in S4 is very similar to that of S3, just much much more of it. S3 definitely had it's abundance of hilarity (The Mayor or Wesley for example), but the humor was tempered by one of the best made stories of the series, which created a masterful blend of the comedic and the dramatic.

I've posted previously about my negative feelings on how the writers incorporated life in college into the show and I felt that both The Initiative and Adam were not very well fleshed out (elite commandos running a fully functional frat? Really?). What really saved this season in my mind was the absolute A-caliber comedy. Spike and Anya were amazing new additions and their interactions with the other cast members really lifted the season from "O.K" to one really worth buying.

I agree, season 4 is the season with the most hilarious eps.
Especially Hush 🙂 The classroom scene always makes me crack-up.

The expression of everyone's face after Buffy's "staking" motion is priceless!
Totally agree! I'm one of the ones who really didn't care for the Initiative and Adam and Buffy's relationship with Riley, but I'd forgotten how truly funny the season is as a whole, and that totally makes up for it. 🙂
