Season 4-The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

This is just a list I've compiled of all the pros and cons of S4. First, we compare the good and the bad of the season as a whole.

The Good

- Buffy's dorm room from the first 2 eps

- Introduces Harmony as a vamp

- Willow starts becoming a powerful witch

- Tara!

- Willow comes out of the closet

- Spike joins the cast!

- Anya and Xander start dating

- Giles gets cool

- Faith's return!

The Bad

- Basically the whole the initiative storyline

- Riley!

- No more Sunnydale High(or the library)

- A lot less Joyce

- Oz leaves

- Too much Riley/Buffy sex scenes

- No more Angel, Cordy, or Wesley

Now lets compare the eps, The Good(good) The Bad(Medium) and The Ugly(horible)

The Good

i agree mostly with the first parts.. except i was one of the few people who actually liked the initiative storyline.

'living conditions' was stupid. i liked 'fear itself', 'yoko factor' and 'primeval'.

i can't stand 'beer bad'.

The Initiative storyline should have focussed more on Adam and less on prof Walsh

the Episodes

were pretty cool IMO!
 
I didn't really like S4. There were few episodes that I like.

I like it when Faith woke from her coma, when Angel beat up in Riley in, "The Yoko Factor", hated Riley and that it's.

Not one of the best seasons in Buffy.
 
Beer Bad is like one of the funniest episodes theyve ever done
it was sposed to be kitsch and lighthearted causeit was all getting too serious and it dealt with some of the major issues of the plots at the time buffy/Parker, xander -how he fits in etc
so i liked it
andim a bit disagreeable about the placement of some of the other eps
but aside from that i agree with all the stuff in your pros and cons list!

I liked A New Man - just to see Giles chase Professor Walsh down the street - hilarious. 😀 Oh, 'Hush' and 'Something Blue' were really good eps too!!

It did have alot of good eps really, I think I look back and think of the Season 4 and the whole Initiative/Adam arc and automatically have bad memories, but upon recently watching the box sets for the first time since they came out (some of the tapes we hadn't even unwrapped!!) I realised that Season 4 actually wasn't that bad. There were alot of good eps, and even Riley wasn't *that* bad, it was in Season 5 he got *really* annoying. 😉 Forrest on the other hand was the annoying one along with Professor Walsh, she really annoyed the pants off me!! I've seen Lindsey Grouse in other stuff, and you know, she acts exactly the same as she did in Buffy - very wooden IMO.
 
the Initiative thingwas down hill i thought! it was all good up to there. but it bounced right back with season 5! i thought beer bad was ok, nothing special. i thought 'Living Conditions' was a whole lot better. The Bad... i have yto say the vines in 'Where The Wild Things Are' they looked fake but on the whole that ep was one of my favs in the season.
 
I don't we should be too hard on season 4... yes, some of the initiative stuff was bad, but there are a lot of good eps and I think they outweigh the bad.

Something Blue and Hush are two of the best episodes ever!
 
i like s4!! i think it's Great, i didn't like Riley and Professor Walsh... (prof Walch looks like this junir high school teacher i had that was really B****y, which makes her worse to tolerate!)but i thought it was ok. some of my fave eps are the freashman and fear, itself.... and beer bad is FUNNY!😀
 
I'd say season 4 is the third beast season of Buffy, and it's light years ahead of any of the UPN seasons of Buffy. I'm surprised that Gunn didn't become the star of Buffy once it made the network jump.
 
Gosh, was I the only one who actually didn't mind Riley!?! No bashing please.

I liked the idea of the Initiative/Adam but the execution (in my opinion) was not up to normal Buffy standards.

There was some great episodes in Season 4! Not my favourite season but I don't think needs bashing.

Cordelia, you've just summarized exactly how I feel about Season 4. I always had such a bad opinion of it. But once I got my Box-set, I realized that I did indeed really like the majority of the episodes.

Totally with you on the Professor Walsh thing too. I just did NOT like her, I was quite pleased when Adam did her in, although I would have really liked Buffy to put her in her place!

A Walsh/Buffy showdown could have been cool. I think Maggie Walsh would've made a better big bad than Adam, except of course that she's a normal human and Buffy would have smeared her all over the pavement in no time flat.

Actually, Adam was fine as a character. He would have worked as a big bad, but he just looked so goofy it was hard to find anything about him credible. As Comic Book Guy would say: Worst. Makeup. Ever.
 
I just started watching s4 again now, i'm watching the freshman, and so far it's GREAT!*all giggeli*::rolf::
this ep is funny, exept for the part with buffy being all out of place and all... and that Sunday vamp.. no wait, the ep nr 2 is funny, this is just Buffy cool(you know where she just won't give up, and just when she seems to be down and out, she kicks back)
i think this is REALLY one of the good eppys of this season...

(i don't know if throwing in a quote from this ep is going ut side the topic for this thread.. so if it does, just delet it!)
this is between the vampire Sunday and one of her vamps:

vampire girl 1: does this swetter make me look fat?
Sunday: the fact that you're fat makes you look fat, that swetter just makes you look purple

i think the last remark... about the purple,is funny, the way she says it...
 
LOVED that episode. Love the first few eppys of that Season, and of course HUSH.
 
an alternate Season 4 universe

Yeah - I like the first few episodes of season 4 also (I liked almost all of season 4, but the later episodes took some mental adjusting on my part). They shouldn't have killed Sunday off so fast. She was a lot of fun.

I'd love to see an alternate Season 4 universe where the first part of the season culminated in a showdown between Sunday and Buffy's demon roommate; both of them would be vying for control of the campus after dark. Throw Buffy into the mix and you've got a 3-way Mexican standoff that would escalate into total mayhem with the arrival of a mysterious fourth party (a bunch of masked Initiative grunts). Hmm....come to think of it, maybe that would be more like season finale material. A four way battle is kinda intense for mid-season. 🙂
 
yeah hush is great!! when i'm sitting here watching s4 now, riely is not that much of a drag in the first eps... he's okay... you can live with him, exept that thing he has.. the way he acts, and talks... (hard to explain.. but yeah..😛 )
oh; a very good thing though, is when he saves willows life in ep 5 or 6!😀 and another thing he did that was good, is that he punched that parker dude, the morton who used our Buffster and threw her away, then talked not so nice about her after she saved his life... okay, so maybe he is not so bad in s4!

and OH: veruka... she is such a pain in my A**! yeah...😉
