Season 5 cast - the best?

Well, this is kind of hard to explain, but i feel that in season 5 they have a full "main cast." like if someone asked me "who are the main characters of buffy?" then i would reply with
buffy, xander, willow, dawn, tara, anya, giles and spike. in other words, the season 5 cast. (yes i know there are other characters in season 5, but they aren't so "main")
i'm not sure why i think of it like this, because i mean the "main-ish characters" change according to the buffy seasons, but this is my main one.
i think it's partly because after season 5, i don't think the relationships between the characters were ever the same. in season 6, all of their lives pretty much fell apart and i felt that in season 7 they were never as close as they were before.
season 5 is also my favourite season.

so what do you think? agree/disagree/think i'm totally insane???

No way. In my opinion. Any cast with Dawn on it loses most of it's appeal.

Season 2 had the best cast!

I totally agree with you, TeamSunnydale! I think Season 5 has the best ensemble, and it's my favorite season too. They make an incredible team when they go and face Glory (another great villain!) and I actually really like the introduction of Dawn, especially seeing how Buffy's family relationships/obligations change. Season 5 rocks!

Plus, a season without Tara is just...makes me all sad 🙁

Sorry but the Michelle Tratchenberg casting to me is the worst casting decision of all time. She was much to old for the role in my opinion and I couldn't see how she was meant to look like Buffy or Joyce. I know that sisters can look and act drastically different, but I just feel like they could have done a better casting job here.

Everyone knows I'm not happy with the casting of Nicholas Brendon either so that's 7 seasons of fail in my opinion. Sorry to say it but I was never overly happy with David-I-only-have-one-facial-expression-Boreanaz as Angel so that cancels out 1-3 for me. The potentials in 7 were lacklustre, unoriginal and uninspiring so that definitely cancels out Season 7 for me.

I guess I can't choose one season in particular over another...

I know what you mean, the cast feels really full... but honestly, if I had to pick a core group of Scoobies, I think it would have to be the beginning 4 (meaning Buffy, Willow, Xander, and Giles) and then add in the VotM (Vampire of the Moment). I don't feel any of the add-in Scoobies contributed much, as much as I love them. The story could be told without them... so I must say the first season has the best cast, especially if you photoshop Spike wherever Angel is supposed to be,

I agree a little bit, about it being the only season with all the main characters before Buffy dies and is brought back, But my favorite season will alway be season six. Gotta love the musical eipsode 'Once more with feeling'!!! I love season six!!!:biggrin3:

I agree - season five has the best cast. Angel's not there (big cheer!) and the newbies (Anya, Spike, Tara, Dawn) feel like they're really integrating.

yay! it's nice to know i'm not completely insane 🙂
but i do think that after season 5, the characters were never really as close.
but i love those bits in OMWF where they're all singing together, its nice 🙂

I agree with you, it did have the best cast and arc. And in my opinion, Glory was the best villain 🙂. As for Dawn, she annoyed me at first, but I grew to like her and I thought her storyline was really good.

Yea I really loved the season 5 cast..Because you have all the regulars ( Giles, Buffy, Willow and Xander) And Giles had not left, he actually picked up training with Buffy again. Tara was still alive and well. All the relationships ( Tillow, Xanya, and Spuffy which was a lil complicated but still) were going fine. Best cast of all the seasons in my opinion.

Season 5 is my favorite season of the show, so I definitely agree that the cast feels the best in this season. I thought they all fit well together, and their chemistry was the best in this season.

I prefer S2's cast. S5 has Dawn who is all right as a character but her presence pretty much spelled the end of the Buffy-Willow friendship, which is unforgivable. It has Anya who is poor man's Cordelia (if played by a much more talented actress). It has Spike as one of the good guys. No Jenny, much less importance for Giles and Xander, Willow's story being all about Tara and magic (I love Tara but Willow is much more than a lesbian battery of magic power). So the only advantage for S5 is Tara (because S5 Riley is rather annoying). But my love for her isn't nearly enough to offset my dislike of Spike, Anya and the idea of Buffy's life revolving around Dawn. S5 pays a lot of lip service to the Scoobs being "family" but I see them as far closer to each other in S2. Showing, not telling, you see.

Well, I'm going to be the odd man out here and say I disagree; I really don't think season 5 had the best cast. I thought Michelle Tratchenberg was a terrible choice for Dawn, like Cait said she was too old and didn't look the part. I wasn't too crazy about Glory either, I liked the idea of a villain that was a God but I wasn't terrible impressed with the execution of the big bad arc. Also, I'd pick Cordy, Oz and Angel over Anya, Tara and Spike every time.

If I had to pick a season to represent my favorite cast it would be season 3. Nothing beats the core four (Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles) then add Cordy, Oz, Angel, Faith and the Mayor. WIN.

I agree. My sister and I look nothing alike, yet we are blood related. I always just thought maybe they wanted her to look more like Hank or something, with the brown hair. But honestly, most of the time in TV, the siblings never really look alike.

I think people should go easier on Dawn..granted she acted pretty damn annoying but don't forget about the situation that she was going through. A teen finding out that she is not real.. I think it is fair to say that none of us know how we might react in her situation ( considering..it's not real to be not real 😕 ) and neither did the writers..it was prolly a hard part to play for a young Michelle and a challenging part to write for Joss

I didn't like Dawn because Michelle Tratchenberg is an awful actor (at least from her performance in Buffy). And her comedic timing is one of the worst I have ever seen on television. I would have liked her more if they found a better actress, and didn't take so long for her to stop whining, 2 full seasons was too long. Season 7 Dawn should have happened earlier, like at the beginning or middle of season 6. I also felt when Dawn came on the show the whole chemistry was destroyed, the Core 4 were never "together" like they used to be and most of the scenes always had them talking down to her

Season 5 is far from the best cast for me... far, far from 😉 (and no it's not only Dawn...)

For me the best cast is Buffy, Xander, Willow and Giles.
Backed up by Oz and some fangs - Angel/Angelus, Spike and Dru.

So for me it's s1-s2 that's the best. The fangs are mostly for fun though as long as I have those first four and Oz I'm very pleased and can have the vamps exchanged for eg. Riley, Faith, the Mayor, creepy modern-day Frankensteins...
