Apparently your affection for Superstar is shared by some. Jane Espenson herself claims it's one of her favourite episodes. See her interview here;

It's not unusual for a writer to favour his or her lesser efforts however. It's like a mother's special love for her lame child.

I personally find Superstar to be a superficial, contrived attempt at cleverness with 2 dimensional silly characters.

I went with Jane Espenson, I have loved almost all of her episodes (with the exception of Superstar). My favourite is Pangs, in fact, I love almost all of Season 4.
My second favourite writer would have to God aka. Joss Whedon though.

I don't really have a favorite writer off that list, simply because my favorite episodes are spread out pretty equally among them. I obviously like Joss' writing and directing the best, because we really get to see exactly what he sees in his mind for the show. Joss is responsible for a lot of Buffy's best episodes, IMO (The Gift, The Body, Once More With Feeling, Hush, Graduation Day...)

I definately have to rate Conversations with Dead People up there on the all-time best episodes list. It gave me chills watching that one, much as did Hush when i saw it. And OMWF actually had me clapping and cheering in the middle of an empty room lol
