Hi, I just wanted to know if anyone had the full reading order for the BtVS season 8 comics?I'm getting a bit confused with all the 'comic speak' on other sites and just want a simple reading list so I know I am reading in the right order. As this is the first comic I've ever invested in I'm a bit at odds so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I don't know much about Angel: After the Fall and how this relates to season 8 (if at all) and if it's even available for UK readers? And of course the comics spin-offs and things.

Please!! Fill me in if you can. Thanks

The easiest and cheapest way to get all of season 8 is the trade paperbacks (which has a total of 8 books)

1. The Long Way Home
2. No Future for You
3. Wolves at the Gate
4. Time of Your Life
5. Predators and Prey
6. Retreat
7. Twilight
8. Last Gleaming

And they're all numbered so it's pretty simple

so thats what trade means! I was intrigued but couldn't work it out. I had a bargain for 30 on ebay for £30. I just need comics 31-40 no but I'm finding it difficult to find them at the right kind of price. I've just seen Angel: ATF and realised that those are mega bucks too. I'm just trying to find the cheapest places to buy them from. Thanks for your help, that list is the same as I have (roughly).

The Last Gleaming TPB just came out, so you may not find a lot of discounts there, but in general I've found great prices on Amazon! What's nice about the TPBs is that they include the willow & Riley one-shots as well as some of the online-only features (like the
MySpace Presents). Don't forget to join our ongoing season 8 re-read!

Also the Angel comics are a completely separate thing. They were published by IDW & Buffy was published by Dark Horse. Joss was only involved in the After the Fall series, not any of the other IDW series. There are a lot of titles in iDW's Angel run!

Ok, I'm thoroughly confused.

TPB=Trade paper backs?
How do I know what these are when I'm buying comics online? and what volumes are included?

I know after the fall has a few volumes and then it goes into other titles such as aftermath etc? is this what you mean when you say there are more in the IDW series?

I have the Willow spin-off but I brought that seperately. I've tried Amazon UK and a lot of the comics are £8 for single issues.

Finally is the season 8 re-read where you all start from the begining and read together and then discuss? thanks

Trade paper backs collect issues of a comic books, thus they tell the story. There are 8 trade paper backs for Buffy season 8. Just go on wikipedia and get a list of the 8 trade paper backs and buy them. They are all numbered 1-8. Those 8 TPB's are all of the season. You don't need to buy any others once you get them.

I've researched this and think I know what you mean. I will be doing that from now on however I had a super deal on 30 BtVS comics on eBay so I'm good for now.

Can anyone explain what non-canon is? thanks

non-canon just means that those stories aren't considered part of the official Buffyverse. 🙂 All of the Season 8 comics are considered canon, so it's official. Some of the IDW Angel comics might or might not be canon, but as far as I know the After the Fall series is canon as well.

ahhhhh I see. When you say Buffyverse this is everything mentionable in Buffy/Angel?

Yes. I have not read the Angel comics yet so I don't know all the details. Wikipedia has the full list of Angel issues.

Here's the link for all the Buffy season 8 issues: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffy_the_Vampire_Slayer_Season_Eight

And here's our season 8 discussion group: https://www.buffy-boards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=402

I recommend starting with Willow: Goddesses and Monsters. It takes place before the events of season 8 and it will make certain things a lot less puzzling and a lot more understandable on the first reading.

Here is my complete list of canonical Buffy-verse comics, and when each should be read in conjunction with both Buffy and Angel television shows. Hope this helps!

BtVS, Season One
BtVS, Season Two
BtVS, Season Three
BtVS, Season Four; Angel, Season One
(watch the episodes Buffy, Angel, Buffy, Angel... for crossover continuity)
BtVS, Season Five; Angel, Season Two (watch the episodes Buffy, Angel, Buffy, Angel... for crossover continuity)
Joss Whedon's Fray
Angel, Season Three; BtVS, Season Six
(watch Angel, Angel, Buffy, Angel, Buffy, Angel, Buffy, Angel, Buffy til the end for crossover continuity)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales (new deluxe hardcover combining the Tales of the Slayers and Tales of the Vampires trades with the Tales of the Vampires stories from Season 8 - GORGEOUS!) Read Tales of the Slayers at this point.
BtVS, Season Seven; Angel, Season Four (this one is tricky since Buffy takes place over the entire year and Angel pretty much over two weeks; message me for exact episode order to get the crossovers down to a T!)
Tales of the Vampires from BtVS: Tales
Angel, Season Five
Angel: After the Fall, Vol 1
Angel: After the Fall, Vol 2 - First Night
Spike: After the Fall
Angel: After the Fall, Vol 3
Angel: After the Fall, Vol 4
Angel: After the Fall, Vol 5 - Aftermath
Angel: Vol 6 - Last Angel in Hell
Angel: Only Human
Angel: Special - Lorne
(might be hard to find; you'll probably have to look at back issues in a comic shop for this, but worth it!)
Angel: Vol 1 - Immortality for Dummies
Spike: The Devil You Know
Angel: Vol 2 - The Crown Prince Syndrome
Angel: Illyria - Haunted
Spike: Vol 1 - Alone Together Now
Angel: Vol 3 - The Wolf, the Ram, and the Hart
(July 12 release)
Spike: Vol 2 - untitled (August 30 release)
Angel: Yearbook (again, comic shop, but the very last deluxe issue of IDW's stellar run; great stories in this one including a touching Wesley-Fred piece)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 1 - The Long Road Home
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 2 - No Future for You
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 3 - Wolves at the Gate
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 4 - Time of Your Life
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 5 - Predators and Prey
Tales of the Vampires: Season 8
from BtVS: Tales
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 6 - Retreat
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 7 - Twilight
(read "Willow: Goddesses and Monsters" at the end of the book before reading "Turbulence" and "Twilight"; even though it takes place before S8, it's publication order places it at this point as a flashback)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8, Vol 8 - The Last Gleaming (read "Riley: Commitment through Distance, Virtue through Sin" at the end of the book before reading "The Last Gleaming"; even though it takes place before S8, it's publication order places it at this point as a flashback)

Season 9 begins in August with issue #1 of Angel and Faith and #1 of Buffy in September with at least two issues of Season 9 a month for the duration of the 25 month run. Including one-shots and limited series, that'll be almost like getting a new episode every week!

Also, thought you might be interested in
Dr. Horrible and Other Stories
Serenity: Vol 1 - Those Left Behind
(special edition hardcover)
Serenity: Vol 2 - Better Days and Other Stories (special edition hardcover) (September 7 release)
Serenity: Vol 3 - The Shepherd's Tale

Dollhouse began its comics run with "Epitaphs" a couple of months ago and will continue with #1 in July bridging the gap between the season 2 finale and the "Epitaph" episodes.

Like I said, hope this helps! (Being a sexy comic book nerd helps, because I have to put together reading orders for Marvel's stuff all the time to understand what the hell is going on! Haha)

That's a very comprehensive list. It may take a while to buy all of those. Thanks though it's a great help and a definite way of reading them including books and other tie ins 🙂
