You know I only found out about Season 8 a day or two ago, just prior to joining the board... sad of me or what?

I had hoped it was going to be on screen action rather than a comic - but any Buffy is better than no Buffy - right?

--

Plus, I'm wondering if there's ever going to be a new Buffy movie at some point in the future - either following the comic story-line or a brand new story - in my opinion either would be well cool as I think we, the loyal fans have waited way too long for some new Buffy to hit our televisions!

If there's ever to be a Buffy movie, according to Joss, it won't have anything to do with the season 8 comics, he will ignore it completely and it won't be a cannon. I'm still hopping for a movie, it would be much better than a comic, in my opinion.

I wasn't overly THRILLED with the comic idea. I mean, it was better than nothing, but I wasn't over the top.

However, I've been pleased with both the Buffy and Angel ones. They're well written and many times I feel like I can see it all in my head like it's on TV.

Plus, it feels like a "secret" season that I can close up and put on my shelf and other people can't see. I mean, there is you guys, but not everyone else.

And, our comic book guy is SO cool that I'd be sad if I'd never met him!

I don't think there will ever be a movie. You want more Buffy, just read S8 comics. Because I don't think there'll ever be on screen.

true
^ Right! It already started with a movie that left a little bit to be desired.
I don't blame Joss for that, exactly. But, I think it bombed big enough for him to just find other ways to do it than a movie. Besides, we're closing in on "too late" for the original characters and I'd rather have the comics than a total recast S8 movie.

I have no doubt whatsoever that there will, eventually, be another Wampire Slayer movie, maybe even another series, but I seriously doubt that any of the old gang will play more than a very minor part, if even that much, in it. With the world as Joss portrays it now relatively swarming with Slayers, there's no real reason to limit the action to a dozen or so actors/characters. There are literally thousands of alternatives to either Buffy or Faith (or for that matter, Kennedy, Rona, or any of the new Slayers we are familiar with), and no reason why their stories shouldn't be told. Certainly, just like everyone else here, I would love to see the old crew return, but as far as that goes, I would have loved to see the two original shows continue on television. We settled for the comic series, and we'll settle for a "Next Generation" themed Slayer movie.

(Maybe Joss could take the easier way out and do a movie about an already established "Next Generation" movie: "Fray, the Vampire Slayer" has a nice ring to it)

That is not what he said. He said:

ON WHETHER A MOVIE WOULD FOLLOW THE CURRENT SEASON 8 COMIC BOOK MYTHOLOGY:

WHEDON: Hypothetically, if you could make things align, that would be fun. When I did the comic FRAY that took place 200 years in the future, [I thought] there's no way this could affect the show, so it'll be safe, but we ended up using a little of that mythology from the comic book. So I feel a certain obligation to work in that mythology, and it would be lovely to make it all tie in, but if I had to shoot down everything I'm doing in comics, because we were doing a project where I was filming with these actual people, I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep.

Absolutely nothing that could be construed as "This is how it would be."

weird, because I read something else where he did say what I said. It wasn't a long time ago too, and I remember it this way.

That something fans made up. You know, they hear something Joss said and rephrase it to their liking. What he really said was what Rowan Hawthorn posted.

Yeah, Joss wouldnt hesitate to drop the comics canon status but i think he'd rather keep as much as possible, the less he drops things hes classed as canon, the better.
Personally though, i wouldnt like a Buffy movie, id prefer a series(whatever size it may be)

I don't expect a movie in the current climate myself, but 'not ever', well that's a long time. We don't know what could happen in the future.

Right now the big block is SMG. She's done with Buffy currently, and Joss won't do Buffy without her. That's my reading of the current climate anyway, for what that's worth.

Here's one we don't like to think about. What if we click into Buffy-Boards tomorrow, and we read Joss Whedon died in a car accident. Everything changes. SMG is no longer an issue. All we need is some Fox executive to get the idea somebody like Scarlet Johannson would make a good Buffy. Also the whole idea of canon loses its import. Anything goes.

That's just a radical expression of how quick everything can change.

And BAD YOU for even typing such a thing. Haven't you ever heard of bad luck?
^^ exactly.

Ive alredy resigned myself to the *fact* no future Buffyverse stuff is ever gonna reach the heights of the original Buffy series.
Any new stuff might be good but theres a good chance it'll be bad.

Dude, you KNOW how the media works. Shame on you.
Soon there will be a headline in the usual places:
"Buffy fans actively seek death of its creator Joss Whedon for preventing the return of Buffy to TV with rumored fan-favorite Scarlet Johannson cast as new Buffy".
