hi, i am new all this, so the big question is where can i get more info on season 8, like where to buy, how it started to go further and how come i don't know anything about it!!! Oh and bear with me cos the whole buffy board thing is so big i don,t know where to start! Ta very much: erm : and what is a tag??

A lot of that will be done on Google. You can get them from just about any comic store in your area, or you can order them from Amazon or TFAW. I'm sure Google can also point you to articles on how Joss decided to do this--I think we had threads about it, but I suspect they're all in the graveyard. If you're curious as to what's going on and don't mind being spoiled, you can check out this thread: Buffy Season 8 Recaps - Buffy-Boards for recaps and such.

As for the BB being huge--Flannie will take you well in hand on that one. 🙂

This comic is the canonical season 8 of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," overseen and partly written by Joss Whedon.

The first 20 issues have been collected in trade paperback form, all of which are easily available in bookstores and from Amazon.com:

Vol. 1 - The Long Way Home (Issues 1-5)
Vol. 2 - No Future For You (starring Faith, Issues 6-10)
Vol. 3 - Wolves at the Gate (Issues 11-15)
Vol. 4 - Time of Your Life (Issues 16-20)

We're currently up to issue #25. The Volume 5 trade paperback, collecting 21-25, will be out in September. The next issue, #26, starts a new story line and will be out (probably) the first week of July. There will be 40 issues in total.

I'd say there are only a few things you'd need to know (assuming you've seen the show 😉 )

1.) It's Produced by Joss Whedon (Creator & Producer of the show), so the characters are written the same way.

2.) While the characters are the same, the circumstances are wildly different, the Scoobies now travel the world and are rarely together since they each run different operations. Often Buffy will be in a totally different country than Xander & Willow.

3.) You'll want to read Tales of the Vampires "Antique" before reading Book 3 "Wolves at the Gate"

4.) You'll want to read Fray before you read Book 4 "Time of Your Life"

5.) Book 5 is... horrible, and not in a Neil Patrick Harris-good way.

6.) The large scope (traveling the world) and the exploration of more Fantasy and SciFi Genres is a little over-the-top.

7.) Enjoy!

Excellent post. You are ENTIRELY right about everything you said. I would say if you didnt read the previous tales...you would be missing out but you maybe not so confused since they do introduce the established characters well, Dracula/Xander aside
Don't get scared off by thinking you *have* to read "Antique" or "Fray" first, though... those give you a lot of back-story, but you can enjoy the season 8 arcs on their own. Everything you really need to know is there. No homework is necessary. (Although "Fray" is really good.)

I liked many parts of the "Predators & Prey" arc (the future book 5). It was a little uneven, but there are things in it that are vital to understanding the rest of the season.

You don't "need" to read those others, but they're enjoyable other comics, and I know I'd be confused if I read S8 without those...

Book 5 had some decent issues, but Buffy + Andy Dick + MTV + "Ovary Eating" = Horrible by default...

I think the slayer line is going to end , only one slayer will have the power, not all of these girls , because in " Time of you life " Fray was the only one slayer , so i think something going to happen to the slayers!
