In what appears to be in complete contradiction to an earlier interview, Nicholas Brendon has said that Buffy might continue until season 9.

"I'm under contract for three more years," explained Nick in a recent interview. "It's up to the higher powers that be. If they want the show to continue, it will, and from what I've heard, they do. I just figure, let's wait till after this season and we'll find out."

What do ya'll think about this?

Really. I mean I've heard them talk about that they've always wanted to do ten seasons from the beginning but I was getting kind of scared with the rumors that next season will be the last.

I am seriously all for more seasons of Buffy, but I would hate it if the quality went down. I wouldn't mind the showing ending next season or Season 8 if it went out on an amazing high ponit (a la Seinfeld). The show could keep going on, but it would be a disgrace if the show's title got dragged throguh the mud for it's final 2 years and everyone hated it.

I have to agree with DanielKurland I mean I would like the show to go on past season 7 but if its going to get worse I would much rather they end it now while its still popular and thought of as a good show. I'm not going to keep my hopes up for another season just in case it doesn't happen though.

I am a bit unsure about this news... I ma not sure where they can really go from here... I think it would be a stretch to continue the show much further without becoming repetitive or the quality being reduced.

However, I could see a future in a project that was non BTVS, in a spin off sense... that would explain being contracted for a longer span than the show is set to run.

I just can't see SMG being in it for too much longer. I really have mixed feelings about this because while I love the show and wish it would never end, reasonably, I know there is only a finite amount of time that the show can produce fresh scripts and quality storylines. I'd hate for it to do an X-Files.

both nickolas and alyson have three left. that is what i heard. it is all up to the viewers and the production company. i heard that sarah mint going to ocme back that 7 would be her last.. but i could b wrong ( i hope so)

I sure hope there will be a season 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I read in an interview or something that Sarah said that they would stop when the show is at the top. They would stop while they're still famuos.

ooh! i hope that there wil be a season 9, and even a season 10! but also, i want buffy to end while it's still at its high point so that the name will not be disgraced. i'm having mixed feelings. on one hand, i want buffy to go on forever, i grew up on this stuff! and on the other, i'd want it to end, like i said before, when it's still reputable, y'know? whatever the PTB decides, it'll be ok with me because i'm perfectly content watching reruns of it as well. :-D

Wow!!! Season 9!!! How are they going to pull that off? I mean, they must be running out of things to write about and deamons and bad guys to come up with...oh well...I'm very excited for the extended seasons, if this is true...................😀

Well latest news is that Joss has been in serious contact with Eliza Dushku(Faith)about coming back, and I think if that if SMG leaves, they could always offer Eliza the show, I always liked Faith better anyway, and Eliza is just as good an actress as SMG. I know that Michelle T.(Dawn) has been mentioned as the possible heir to the Slayer throne, but that would not do justice to either the show, the fans, or Michelle herself. They need to come up with something new for her, give her some sort of power we've never seen before, and let Faith do the Slaying. Michelle has had to suffer through a charecter that hasn't been allowed to do much, and MT is too talented an actress to waste her talents like that, and simply making her a Buffy-Clone would be a slap in the face to the fans, the show, and Michelle herself.

I really don't know. I really don't want the quality of the writing to go down which sometimes happens when a show goes on for that long. It would be nice, but I think that Buffy is losing some of the ummpphh it once had. I guess I'll just see what happens in the coming season and make up my mind from there.

i'm all for a season 9! However, I have heard that Joss has mentioned that if SMG doesn't return after season 7 then they would still continue. I don't know...I just don't see the show keeping it's ratings without SMG! I would still watch the show because I love the fabulous Alyson Hannigan and James Marsters. We'll just have to see when season 7 is over.

If Sarah Michelle Gellar's contract runs out this season, but other cast members have been tied up for 2 more seasons, there must have been plans all along to continue the series even if SMG left. Of course, if she did leave, would it still be called Buffy The Vampire Slayer?
