Season 9?

Joss mentioned a Season 9. Don't know if there's actually going to be something called 'season 9' or if he means the next big arc after twilight is planned out. In comics they don't really need to keep incrementing the season number.

I think he said he knows how season 8 will end and how season 9 will begin, it's still years off yet

I think that the title will actually change from Season Eight to Season Nine when Twilight is defeated.

will that be included in the 40 issues or will it be a whole new set?

I think that's supposed to be a new set. The idea for Season Eight that they have now is the roughly 40-issue story. Joss said that he had some ideas about Season Nine, but if they'd make that I think it'll be a separate series. I think it's very much possible that they'll wait half a year or maybe a year between releasing the end of Season Eight and the beginning of Season Nine.

I want a season 9 so therefore it has to just 'be.' I can't go on if it stops at 8. I am not good with the stopping! 🙂

Yes we neeeeed a season 9. I want them to be in seasons not just a really long extended 8
Yeah but at 40 issues thats like 3 and a half years, so I don't think we have anything to worry about yet.

Why do the comic seasons last so much longer than the TV seasons?

And how long is it in the Buffyverse? Does the gang really take 3 years to defeat each big bad now?

Well it's a completely different format, one issue of the comic would be slightly shorter than a tv ep and instead of getting a new ep every week we are getting an issue every month so its going to take at least 4 times longer but that doesn't mean the same amount of time is passing in the comic itself

It seems to me that a single issue is about half or maybe a fourth of an episode, so that one arc is about the equivalent of a single tv episode. It's hard to compare the two formats accurately, though, so one guess is as good as another.

Makes sense. Thanks.
Seems like it's just time consuming, technically. It has to be pencilled, inked, colored, lettered...there's only so much a small art team can crank out in a month (and still have it look good).

There was that weekly DC '52' comic. I think they had a big, rotating group of artists working on it though.

The darn monthly schedule, with each month offering less story than a weekly episode did.

To me it feels like a 4-issue (4 months) mini arc equals one episode of the tv show. It's only 20-something pages per issue.

Joss explained in an audio interview that I listened to on some site (can't remember where!) that Season 8 is working on "comic time", not real time, so a year of issues does not equal a year in Buffy's life, and he wouldn't reveal exactly how much time of Buffy's life we've missed since the end of Season 7.

Thanks for the explanation.
I think Season 12 is a good number to stop on. Or 15. Or 23. 🙂

Old Joss writing about old Buffy.

yeah and if he could just leave the outline for series 24-50 for after he's gone...that would be great!

More Buffy is good, but I think we have to stop when she has to strap Stakes to the legs of her zimmerframe 😛

By season 23 the gang would have to have likee their kids, or even grandkids being the main cast 😛 And pssh, I don't think it'll last QUITE that long, anywho 😛

Sure, it can. According to Fray, the final apocalyptic battle for the Slayers occurred in the 21st Century. That still gives us, what - 92 years or so... :happy04:
