Prophecy Girl never actually made me cry although it does come a close second behind Angel in my eyes. I think in the end Angel had more heart to it. It showed how far Angel really was willing to go for Buffy also there had been a chemistry that was really obvious but it wasn't actually established that Angel did have feeling for Buffy till that episode. And sorry I was rambling but I couldn't help myself.

my fav ep from season1 is Angel.. i love to see buffy and angels first kiss and how she found out that he was a vampire.. and specially i loved darlas role is this episode..

I voted "The Pack". I just loved every part of it, especially when they ate Principal Flutie. Plus, seeing Xander in a differant way was interesting too.

?

It's my 1st time ever watching (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) which I am having a blast doing , I'm totaly obsessed with it , althought I'm only on season 1 episode 8 , but from what I have seen so far , my favorite eppy at the time is (Angel) I adore it .

me too. Angel with his shirt off got me addicted :)
Nightmares - for me it is the quintessential Season One Buffy episode:

  1. It is quite self-contained (yes, aspects from other episodes and the story arc tie in, but by 'self-contained' I mean that it doesn't spill over into another episode... the main problem is resolved within those forty-two minutes of television).
  2. The Scoobies play central roles and, as others have mentioned, we learn about their fears and such (epitomising their experiences through the past season whilst setting up elements of Prophecy Girl).
  3. There's still a heavy dose of the surreal - the fantasy, the horror, which is one of the reasons I originally fell in love with the programme and it is what I most closely associate with the first season of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
When I'm doing a marathon it's the S1 episode I most look forward to. No matter how many times I watch it the nightmare world is a concept I've always found fascinating, and it's so wonderfully applied here and to the characters' lives.

I like them all, but I voted for Welcome to the Hellmouth. I love going back to that episode and seeing how different all the characters are compared to the last episode of S7 🙂

I gotta go for The Puppet Show, simply because THIS is the episode where I completely fell in love with this show. I'd liked it from the word go, but I sat through this episode almost crying my eyes out with laughter.I giggled childishly throughout, and it really made me realise how much I loved it and all the characters in it.
So it has to be TPS for me.

i think season 1 is an underrated season. i like it. i chose out of mind out of sight, just because it's a really cool concept-- the people around you don't notice you, so you become invisible. wow. i also really like that moment buffy and cordelia had with each other in the hallway before she changed in the broomcloset... about being in a crowd of people and still feeling alone. that a whole conversation between them really touched me. i love it everytime i watch it. plus, "have a good summer" is the kiss of death... hilarious, because it's true. it is what you write when you have nothing to say.

but i also think prophecy girl is amazing. SMG's "im 16 years old, i don't want to die" speech always makes me cry, it's so moving. and everyone complementing buffy on her dress towards the end makes me laugh...

i completly agree with everything!
My favorite episode of S1 has to be "Witch." My favorite used to be Prophecy Girl, but I watched it too much and got sick of it. Haha, but I think of "Witch" as a classic Buffy episode, but that's just me.

Wow, only 7 of us for The Pack!??? I always thought it was a more popular episode but then the more fans i talk to the more i learn, not so much.

The Pack is actually one of my all-time favorite episodes. Evil Xander was sexy but disturbing. And not to mention... Principal Flutie was eaten!!! I remember the looks of shock on my brother and I's faces as we watched this episode. Like, oh my god, they can put stuff like that on t.v? Yeah it was awesome. And the transformation of the characters to becoming more and more hyena-like was just great.

I just think The Pack is fabulous.

Nightmares would be my second pick.

I would have to say Nightmares because it was just a great episode it made you laugh but it also showed you what Buffy truly feared. Great Episode. (when Xander shows up to class in his undies-Priceless:lmao🙂

I voted for ''Nightmares'' its always been a fave in series one! =)
just the way it deals with peoples nightmares and fears, was just a really good idea for an episode, thought it was done really well reflecting everyones fears, plus we got to see buffy play a vampire, for the first and only time!

AW, that's painful! I went by Nightmares. Just purely love it, but I also love the Pack, Teacher's Pet, The Witch, The Puppet Show...

I voted "Angel" as the best. For one thing, Angel became my favorite series overall and this episode finally let us know what the deal was with this guy. Angel throwing down with Buffy was good and I loved his line where he is telling Buffy about what he did and how he came to be and tells her, "For a hundred years I offered an ugly death to everyone I met, and I did it with a song in my heart." That is wicked poetry and a foreshadowing to his poetic style in Season 2 episode, "Passion" (I can't believe I am actually starting to memorize the episode titles).

Another fun episode was "The Pack" as gruesome as it was with the students eating the pig and the principal. However, it had its share of funny moments particularly at the end when Xander was talking with Buffy and Willow saying he'd no recollection of what happened. Then Giles walks up and the conversation goes:

Giles: I've been reading up on my, uh, animal possession, and I cannot find anything anywhere about memory loss afterwards.
Xander: Did you tell them that?
Giles: Your secret dies with me.
Xander: Shoot me, stuff me, mount me.

That was just a classic Xander moment and the interaction with Giles was hilarious. I had to rewind and watch Giles' expression as Xander walked away.

After those two episodes I would say "Welcome to the Hellmouth" and "Prophecy Girl" are pretty good.
