i went ahead and conformed and said prophecy girl, because simply, it rocked. it had the humor, the drama and everything in between. second best for me would be the witch. great episode. i can always go back and watch it again, "macho, macho man, i want to be a macho man!"
 
I had to go with Angel b/c of the Bangel smooches 😛 But I love most of Season 1! I really like The Pack, Prophecy Girl, & Welcome to the Hellmouth (mostly because it started it all, so who couldn't love it!).
 
My favorite episodes are tied between Nightmares and Prophecy Girl. I loved Nightmares because you got to see more of the characters, their fears and such (well, some of them were pretty obvious - but it was well done none the less). I loved Prophecy girl because the whole Master thing was pretty cool I thought. I loved the guy who played the Master - he was brilliant.
 
I went with Prophecy Girl, because I couldn't even begin to guess how many time I've seen that ep, but Buffy's tears and realisation still gets me crying every single time.
 
I find it so hard to choose... Probably my top five are 'Witch', 'Prophecy Girl', 'Nightmares', 'The Pack' and 'The Puppet Show'. It's so hard to decide on one favourite...

I ended up going for Witch, but I can't say I'm certain it's my favourite...
 
All the episodes are great (very good season) but Prophecy Girl just rocks!

First upcoming apocalipse, Buffy's speech "I'm 16..."( so moving, it was the first time I cried watching Buffy), her first hard choice, facing the Master, Cordy driving a car into school building (hilarious!)

And I just love that scene when she's going down the street with Xander and Angel and we hear Buffy theme...
 
I couldn't pick! I love all of season 1! the only episode I don't think that much of is I Robot...You Jane but I still watch it a lot lol
 
well i mine would have to be angel and like the last few mins of teacher pet (im a bangle fan (i actually love em all but)) and welcome to the hell mouth because it was the 1st buffy epp i ever saw, like i hadnt even seen clips i just borrowed them off a friend and that was the 1st thing i ever saw
 
I voted Angel. Such a great character episode, and one of those OMG moments when Angel went all vampy while kissing Buffy. 😀
 
I chose nightmares. I share Xander's fear of clowns. 🙂
Prophesy Girl is a very close second followed by Angel.
 
I know this is a super late post, but since I just finished season 1.
It's really hard to pick a favorite.

Angel
Nightmares
The Pupet Show
The Pack

Nightmares was really good because it was one of those episodes that have a modern topic.
Abuse, I played sports for years and it's true that parents can get really upset with their kids performance.
Mine were always really supportive, but some of my team mates had pretty tough parents if they didn't perform to the best of their ability.
Pretty harsh.
