Secret/Guilty Pleasure Ship?

Do you have one? I do... I'd really like to hear about other people's, and why they're insecure about it, or think it's a little strange, etc. Make me feel a little better about mine? Or just share 😀. Sharing is caring. Also if you also ship mine we should hang out and swap dirty giggles or something.

Okay... so, I would probably call mine a "secret" ship, simply because, while I don't feel that most people should ever be ashamed of what they like to ship, (no matter how out-there they or other people think it is) it's not anything like anything else I ship in any fandom.

I usually stay close to canon with my ships. If there is canon romance, chances are my OTP is one of the canon ships, and the others I like most are canon as well.

But with the Buffy fandom there is one pairing that I like an extreme amount that is not canon and is pretty, honestly, crack-headed.

And that pairing is Giles x Xander.

So yeah... I already know I'm not the only one who ships this but it really steps out of my comfort zone especially when it comes to mentioning it.

Before I go further I just want to say that Xander x Anya is my Xander OTP and Giles x Joyce is my Giles OTP... but then, Giles x Xander just has this giant untouchable place in my soul. It's a really dirty place, too.

Anyway... the reason I ship it... I just think their relationship is sort of less focused upon than Giles with Willow and Buffy or Xander with Willow and Buffy. They definitely show and have non-romantic affection in the show but it's so subtle that it's so easy to look at the wrong way. Plus, the kind of relationship they have is so appealing to morph into a romantic one. There are a lot of reasons... specific scenes between them that just make my heart go thad-ump in a bad way but I'm not making this post to convince anyone it's legit. I'm just coming out of the closet. I know that Giles is a lot older than Xander and hence my insecurity about the pairing but it's still so interesting and adorable to me and I can't lie and say I've never written fanfictions for it.

So anyway, anyone else?

My guilty pleasure ship is Spander. I'm not guilty about it because it's technically non-canon, or because it's slash, or for any of the reasons that people might think so, but purely because I ship the shit out of Spangel. Also, I love Spike as a character but don't get Xander at all. I'm not sure where my love of this ship comes from. Possibly because I have read some great fanfic based around the two of them realising they have feelings for each other. Also, something about Xander being secretly gay makes me feel like his repression due to his homosexual leanings would explain a lot about his character.

Okay, my guilty pleasure ship is...Buffy/Giles. 😱
Yeah, I know and its got nothing to do with the whole father/daughter thing. I mean, I get the relationship between those two and wouldn't want that changed, and yet...
I honestly like seeing these two characters (and actors) play off each other, because they do it so well, and tend to bring out the best, most intense acting scenes. (Two of the finest actors on the show by far...) And I hated, hated the way they took the relationship later on. Season 6 and 7 not having Giles in one of the key weaknesses to both.

I don't feel particularly guilty about it, but I have always wished that Buffy and Faith had been closer, not as lovers, but as friends. Each girl I always felt had things that she could learn from the other, and could profit from the other's experience. I've always fantasized about them being in some situation where they had to depent totally on the other for survival, with no one else able th get to them for a long period of time, allowing them to work out all their differences and bond as the sisters that they should be, especially now, with them being the last two Slayers who will ever be Called in the traditional way until Fray's time. They are, literally, the last of their kind.

Yeah, to above I totally ship Fuffy! The two slayers are made for each other.😀
But I would happily settle for them being closer, like sisters closer and I agree they could learn an awful lot from each other if they could just get along for a while...oh, well, I can hope.🙄

Also, to show I'm an equal opportunities slash shippers, am I the only one who could see a subtext between Angel/Lindsey right from the start. 'Blind Date' has such an undercurrent of sexual tension between these two... They always seem to be smoldering at each other!

I don't know if it's really a guilty pleasure ship but recently Faith/Spike piqued my interest. Deep down they both seem like they're both just looking for someone to love and love them back 😛

A good Spike/Faith romance should be something totally new to both of them. Pure, sappy, and so disgustingly sweet that it would have people tearing their hair out. The two of them holding hands everywhere they go, whispering and giggling over a single milkshake and two straws, just like two teenagers in love for the first time. Both characters have experienced sex in its most raw, noncommittal form, but neither one, as far as we know, has ever had the classic "first love" relationship, with all its innocence, joy, and sense of total amazement. That would be what I would envision for Spike and Faith.

I've gotten to the point in my life where I don't have guilty pleasures. I like what I like and I really don't care what other people think about it. Whether it's the weird ship that comes out of shows we watch or that teen/kids movie that I just watch constantly because I love it, I'm not embarrassed about it or ashamed to say what it is, because I couldn't care less if anyone thinks less of me.

In saying that, my guilty pleasure is Spander. Which, probably, everyone here already knows, lol.

I would love to have Willow and Spike together. I guess what would be 'Wike' haha. The couple a times we get a few snippets of it is awesome. Their scene in Lovers Walk. The chemistry I think is brilliant. I would have liked to have seen it as a sneaky sort of fling where maybe even Willow pursues Spike. At first Spike would be against it, but he'd come around to the idea because Willow brings out his softer and more vulnerable side.

My guilty pleasure is probably Xander/Graham. 😛 They have never met on screen and Graham is such a minor character he almost has no personality, but I've read a few fics in my must read Xander/anyone phase and enjoyed them a lot. On occasions I'd come to visit this pairing from time to time.

However, my OTP will always be Xander/Spike!

My reasons for liking them are the same as yours. They have an unexplored relationship in canon that can be seen as a one sided crush on Xander's part. He values Giles so much yet we don't see Giles acting the same way even though of course he cares about Xander - wants to write a one sided love fic right now!

There are a few Spander fics out there about Xander being the gay one instead of Willow. My favorite is Sidelines by Anna S.

Hey white avenger I found your comment interesting and I have thought about this before. Your wish that buffy and faith had been closer parallels with a lot of the relationships in buffy. I think one of the most genius things about the show is that they really respected individual character development. Another show would have had Xander eventually like spike or angel and buffy with faith, but they made it realistic. This is who these people are and wek are not going to make it otherwise to make the viewer more comfortable. A final example is when Giles plots to kill spike in season 7. All of the characters have there flaws and individual personalities. It's bold, and it's not done enough anymore!,

I have to say, of all the ships I've heard Spike/Faith leaves me kind of depressed, I just don't see it.
I mean, sure there was a lot of original chemistry, sparks, but after that?

I think they work better as friends (or really just allies, if I'm honest). I think Faith deserves someone that isn't a Buffy castoff/ ex-boyfriend (seriously Angel, Riley, Wood...) to fall in love with (also lets not retred the whole vampire/slayer romance with yet another slayer, that's Buffy's thing...).
And Spike also deserves someone more, a true romantic, someone who would appreciate his poor, damaged, poet self, who wouldn't see him as a 'dark place'. These two deserve people who love them for who they are. Just my opinion.🙂

If you want slashy sappy, romance, I could totally see Faith/Gunn! (we know that tough street warrior has a romantic heart...) 😀

Topher this actually applies to my above post as well, the spike/buffy relationship was honest. It respected the story and didn't force something that was out of the realm of the characters. It's the genius of buffy

Hey, you know what , you're totally right! That's my point exactly. 🙂

Although the Spuffy stuff isn't my favourite, it did develop organically and intelligently so that I found it believable.
I guess that's what I want to see in future Spike and Faith relationships with other people, an organic romance that comes from something real, not a 'oh, lets just hook up these two characters from Buffy's past together'.

For example I thought they would do that with Spike/Fred, for a while (and Spike/Illyria had great chemistry!) but I suppose that was to get Spike emotionally involved with her death. 🙁

Faith on the other hand...poor Faith, will she ever find somebody. 🙁

I definitely agree, they have a way of respecting the characters and not forcing things. Spike and Fred wasn't romantic though,spike appreciated who she was. If a spike and faith thing happened it would have to be down the line...there both messes hahahha.does anyone else think the ending of angel is one of the greatest show endings ever?

No... I haven't read her fics I don't think! But I would love to! And yeah... I have a hard time figuring out where to start with Gander fics because I'm not sure where I stand on the 'who starts like who first' thing. In the fics I've written it's been sort of a mutual thing, but I'd love to do a skip-around re-write of all seven seasons developing them mutually into a relationship... probably with a sudden 'why did I just kiss you?' ... 'i don't know but it was nice. shit.' moment... just because those sorts of relationships work well for Xander xD.

Wesley/Fred is my Angel OTP and I was devastated by the entrance into the show of Illyria and pretty much reject her existence, as well as Fred's death. (Other deaths I reject include Anya and Doyle)

BUT... that being said, if I ignore my denial, Spike x Illyria is probably the /only/ Spike ship I can stomach. Fred and Spike definitely did have a sweet connection (I would have cried friendship) and Illyria is more Spike's speed.
