Secret/Guilty Pleasure Ship?

Yeah, whilst it's not a 'guilty pleasure' in the sense that I like it from a trash perspective... I'd have to go with Willow and Anya. So much similarities, grew up in violence and ended up being violent, at their best they will never hold back, place a strong importance on research and information. And plus? Dismiss them as sidekicks or girlfriend material, or extensions of Buffy and my blood just boils. Aside from the similarities, they do grow to understand each other, and support each other. Letting one of them die is never an option, it's the last thing Willow wants in Selfless and the last thing Anya wants in The Dark Willow Arc.

And at their most evil selves, the greatest villian duo ever.

The show kinda acknowledges this pairing in "Tough Love" ( You can sleep with me. Well, now that came out a lot more lesbian than it sounded in my head and especially in "Same Time, Same Place" ( This isn't going to get all sexy, is it?/It did get a little sexy, didn't it? ) Those scenes always put a smile on my face.

These really aren't "guilty pleasure" ships for me, since I don't feel guilty about them. There's just something I find appealing about some characters together. In no order:

Buffy/Xander: Honestly, I've always liked the idea of this. Especially in season 1 when he was head over heels for her. I think it might be interesting.

Riley/Xander: I love this pairing, too. They seemed to have a nice friendship on the show, and I've read some fics that make this relationship sound great. Xander in a gay relationship sounds good to me. 😛

Buffy/Doyle: Even though they only shared about a millisecond of screen time together, the idea of these two pairing up just appeals to me.

Oh, come on, you guys are missing the obvious one:

Clawn

Clem and Dawn obviously like each other and the image of them holed up in Spike's bunker for her protection with them watching TV and eating junk food seems quintessentially... American. Of course it's a guilty pleasure because it would violate statute and be an interspecies match and of course, Dawn could never own a cat.

Fowen

Think of Owen from Never Kill a Boy on the First Date and Faith. He wanted to walk on the wild side? Faith invented the wild side. Fasten your seat belt, Owen.

Now for some crossover permutations and combinations:

Lilander

Xander is now a respected construction manager with adult responsibilities and now he needs an adult love interest, something he never had in BtVS, and who would be better adult entertainment than Lilah?

Ninoz

Nina and Oz with a monthly cage match. Just a question - would they end up having puppies or children?

Evethan

Ethan Rayne and Eve seem to be doomed to have things go wrong, but now they can have it all go wrong together.

Clawn- surprisingly sweet, And I'm positive that Clem would wait until Dawn was...uh, appropriate. To be honest, I have to envision these two as just friends or my eyes will start to bleed. 😛

Fowen- Ha, Owen wouldn't last a week. He's sweet an all but...aw, well maybe his sweetness would rub off on Faith. He seemed pretty genuine to me.

Lilander- Xander does have a thing for older women. Either Lilah would have a boy-toy, or Xander's pure heart would turn her away from evil. I know which one I'd prefer.

Ninoz- 😀

Evethan- Oh, he'd wrap her round his little finger...


Other couples who I think have onscreen chemistry, now that I think about it:

-Giles and Ethan: Ah, in their wild youth perhaps. Definity got that vibe in 'A New Man' when their chatting over a pint.

-Faith and Lilah- How exactly does Lilah pick Faith up from the club without saying anything? (In 'Five By Five') In the script it does mention for Eliza to tone down any, uh, subtext- it fails. ('We could go somewhere and talk, but I gotta tell you I'm not much of a talker, I'm more of a doer.') Be still my heart, Lilah has her very own W&H assassin, Faith could be a 'kept woman'. 😉

That's right, Tara and Lindsey. Lorne may be appalled at their future, but there would be some mighty fine music coming out of Caritas before it all went wrong.

That's right, Connor and Amy, the vampire spawn and the witch. The possibilities are endless. Amy could:

1. Turn Connor into a rat, not that much of a stretch.

2. Reopen Quor'toth and shove him back in.

3. Get hired by Wolfram & Hart to "manage" Connor. that could be a valid character arc or at least a good fanfic.

4. Fall madly in love with Connor and like all other 'ships in the Whedonverse it would be sunk in the most dramatic way with recriminations and spells all over the place. It would have been a better Season 4 than the one they had.

Mine's a time-limited one, and not so much a guilty pleasure as just one I wish had happened. It's Buffy/Xander in S4. Parker was like the evil Xander, so why shouldn't Buffy have then gone into the light?

I would have preferred that to Briley but I'd miss Xander and Anya if Bander(?) happened. I suppose Xanya could just start in S5. In fact, it would have added a new dimension to S4, Anya getting all jealous of Buffy and having to learn to deal with that, maybe she pursues Xander and he starts to warm to her but he fears it's going to be Willow all over again, so he backs off. She goes a bit crazy and, while communing with one of her demon pals, is captured by the Initiative. Mistaken for a fully-fledged demon herself, or held for questioning, her fate worries Xander, who pushes to find out what's happened. This puts a strain on his relationship with Buffy and pushes her towards Riley, who she then finds out is with the Initiative, it all blows up, Riley dies at Maggie Walsh's hands in his first episode as a main character (which means that while Tara still dies in S6, she retains her main cast member status for S7, having been brought back to life in one of the first few episodes) and his body is used as the human component of "Adam", making the big bad a bit more sinister and his defeat more dramatic. Buffy's distraught at Riley's death and splits up with Xander, and then Anya makes her move on him. It hurts Buffy and Xander's friendship for a while but Glory's pursuit of Dawn somehow brings them back together. Or maybe Dawn does it herself, making her character slightly richer.


Sorry, that ran on a bit longer than I thought it would. I swear this is the first time I've ever even considered any consequences of this 'ship.

Now I kind of like the idea of Dawn/Xander. An older Dawn of course. She expressed liking him in Season 5. I like the idea of an older Dawn moving on her initial puppy-love attraction for Xander as a kid. I don't know how her feelings about Xander change in Seasons 6,7,8 or 9 but it seems like it could work somewhere down the line (after she finishes high school).

She's just a cute little teenage kid-sister when she comes onto the show, so I guess I feel a little guilty about the Dander ship. Guilty about thinking of pairing her up already with Xander when she's still just a girl.

I guess mine would be Spangel. I'm guilty about it not because it's wrong, (in fact, it's basically canon) but because I believe so whole-heartedly that Spike belongs with Buffy.

Are we talking BtVS only? If not, I'm also going to mention Angel/Kaye. I truly believe that if things had been different, they could have been great together.

I've always liked Willow and Giles in a romantic sense. Post-high school that is, which is why I feel (just a little) guilty about it because I love the fact that Willow is gay 🙂

In no particular order:

Buffy/Riley - Until he gets all weird with the whole vampires sucking on him thing, I do believe she cared for him and there was a lot there for the two of them. It never impacted me the way Buffy/Angel did, but I could accept it and even appreciate it.

Anya/Giles - Very surprised no one has mentioned this! There's just so much that works about them. They feed off each other.

Buffy/Tara - Finding words to justify it is difficult because I'm just sobbing at the thought, okay?

Kendra/Xander - It could've happened if she got to stick around longer. Would've been a very interesting dynamic for sure.

Xander/Cordelia - I loved them together. Too short lived.
