Security Issues

So I was watching this season of Angel while the BB was offline and I realized, Wolfram & Harts security really sucks!

First of all, when Angel first tries to break in, the "alarm" went off when it sensed a vampire in the vicinity. In s3 there are quite a few times when the alarm isn't sounded. The first I noticed was when Holland went into Lindsey's office and saw him with Dru and Darla. For this one I just assumed that Lindsey just invited them in. Nevertheless, wouldn't someone have alerted Holland of their presense? Also, (i think it was later in that episode, i may be wrong) Lindsey walks into his office and there they are again. Dru and Darla. No alarm. No alert. Nothing. Then, there are a few times when Angel appears and no alarm! Now my question is...does anyone have a theory as to why during these moments a vampire presense was undetected? Or is the answer right there in front of me and I'm too blind to see it? lol

I noticed that they just seemed to have a selective memory when it came to the detectors. When Angel attacks Linwood in the season 3 episode 'Dad', the alarm does go off right before Angel arrives in the staff room. However, in 'That Vision Thing', also in s3, Angel surprises Lilah in her office with no vampire detection at all. And once again in s4, Lilah arrives in her office to find both Angel and a badly beaten Gavin with no alarm whatsoever.

I thought the same thing the whole time I watched the show. I thought "Wow, here's this big powerful law firm who seems to have just about every resource ever, but they can't keep the Angel Investigations team from getting in...."

I got the feeling the Vampire alarm was only ever used selectively when they expected trouble. Wolfram and Hart is completely vampire-friendly inside, after all. The first episode was about a vampire client.

That doesn't explain the extreme lack of security though. Maybe the Senior Partners actually liked Angel having access? It's better to have him around and involved than distant?

I thought this too at first. I mean Wolfram & Hart did want to keep Angel alive after all. The thing that bothers me about that is that the entire firm knew about that vampire client. Thus not needing the alarm. Angel, however, is an enemy of Wolfram & Hart. Wouldn't they need to know if he was in the vicinity at any given point? It just doesn't make sense to me that the alarm would be very selective, know what i mean? They can't afford for a mistake to happen, like say Angel got a hold of a senior partner or something. Angel could easily wipe out all the lawyers if the alarm didn't sound. Of course, I've no doubt that if that happened, Wolfram & Hart wouldn't really care and would just recruit more lawyers. Still....this bothers me!!!!!! I need a more solid answer than "it's selective". There's gotta be a reason...evern if it's sheer idiocracy on their part to hire a demon that can't detect vampires accurately.

I honestly think it's either just a lame plothole, or the Senior Partners WANTED Angel to do the things he did 🙂

ok. I can agree with the first option. But the second? Why would they risk Angel getting killed off by one of their own? They need him alive.

I think the Senior Partners made it clear that they didn't want Angel to be killed. So I doubt anyone would have killed him at W&H. It's a tv show so you need some suspense obviously 😉

Can we be sure that the Senior Partners wouldn't have been happy with Angel storming in and killing everyone? That doesn't sound like the actions of someone saving their soul. It was always extremely ambiguous as to where the Senior Partners wanted Angel, so I don't see that as an issue. Plus, we saw that they really don't care about the lawyers. They kill them for minor mistakes, they replaced them all after Holland's party and The Beast's rampage, they have more offices across the world... Even the highest of the high ups don't even stay in this dimension, never mind the building. I honestly don't think they're all that bothered.

Ok some of what you are both saying kind of makes sense to me now. However, I still think the alarm should be sounded just for info, ya know? Just so that everyone could be on their toes "and Angel is here, let's keep him alive and turn him into Angelus"
