September 11th - 3 years later

September 11th is something that will probably be the same way. That if you were alive when it happened, you'll always remember it but in 50 years, half the people won't even think about it.

But it's not like Pearl Harbor is forgotten, just because there isn't anything special on that day now, everyone stills remembers it and knows about it.. I think it will be the same with this.. Well, maybe they will remember which day it saw since it's called 9/11..

September 11th is the same as Pearl Harbor. 1,000's of people died and we were 'pushed' into a war.

They always show stuff on December 7th (pearl harbor day), usually on the History Channel or A&E...but my dad is a big history buff, so those channels are on quite frequently in my house 😀

I Disagree that September 11th and Pearl Harbor were the same because of the types of people they affected. Pearl Harbor was an attack on our military during a world war, and Sept. 11th was an attack on American's civilians who happened to work in one of the biggest financial centers in the world.

I was at school. The teachers had a TV in the staff room, so they knew. They didn't tell us. The whole damn school day and the first I heard of it was at 5.30 that evening when I got home. I don't know what the hell they thought they were trying to achieve by keeping it from us, but they deliberately did so. I was walking up the hill to my house, and my mum was mowing the lawn, and she shouted down to me that the thing with the planes in America was horrible, wasn't it? It was a gorgeous day for September.

The first thing I thought when I saw the scratchy VHS from the ground was that it was just like Omagh. America's Omagh.

I remember where I was (yeah, it really does seem like yesterday... I cant believe it - 3 YEARS!! god... It felt like last year) but it was nothing really. I came home from school and I found my mother sitting watching CNN or something. I asked what was going on and she was first shocked that I hadn't heard but she told me. I was actually kinda netural about it (I have a very hard time expressing emotions such as shock or sadness, a thing that has been the after-effect of a bad childhood). I mean I didnt have any people that I knew in US or anything at the time but... Afterwards.... Like today.... it feels bigger, than I felt it was back then...

It wasn't at all the same in that way.. Only if you look to the facts about how it occurred.. Never mind.. Pearl Harbor wasn't at all the same kind of surprise and all that.. Pearl Harbor was more what you maybe should have expected at that point.. 9/11 was a chock to everyone (well, to most people) and, as you said, there wasn't a world was going on..

(Just wanted to answer to this post cause I kind of agreed to the other one before, and then I realized I didn't agree, on everything..)

I don't know a lot about how Pearl Harbor affected the American people.. Since I of course wasn't born then and I'm not an American. So no, of course I can't understand exactly what it meant. But the thing I was answering to and agreeing with was that Pearl Harbor and and 9/11 was about different things. That it's not the same to attack a military base during a war, and 9/11 an attack on a totally different thing, and not during a war..

I remember I just happened to have the pleasure of temping at the CBS Building on that day. I got there just as the first plane hit and the building has these huge TV's since they are a news broadcaster, and I was watching with these co-workers I didn't even know (it was my second day) talking about how it had to be an accident. And then we watched the second plane just fly right into the other tower. I tried to keep doing my work and talked to my husband. I just wanted to get home to him. It was his birthday...In short, that meant I didn't know how to react. Until the plane hit the Pentagon. Then I was just panicking. They evacuated my building and I walked to a nearby hotel where my friend worked. I remember my panic simply because I thought another plane could hit anywhere else. I was terrified that any building I was next to would be the next to go. Thankfully that didn't happen, but to echo Buffy Summer's sentiments, it felt like the world was ending. There were people crying in the streets. Some streets were packed end to end. Some looked like a ghost town. I've never seen anything like it, and I don't think I ever will. Being in NYC on 9/11 was just...unexplainable....you can imagine.

It hadn't even sunk in yet that people had died...that realization took place when I had gotten home. And from that point on, I was in mourning for days. I didn't know one person in the building that day. But they were New Yorkers-in a way, my people. It felt like a piece of me was missing for a LONG TIME.

I was in school, just like Hero.I was in grade 6, or was it 5?Anyways, the teachers told us about it.And I don't remember, but I think we watched it on tv or something.All I remember is that we heard the news at school.In grade 7, I took a few days off to go to NYC, with my family.It was my second time, to go to NYC.We visited Ground Zero.We took a picture there.It was sad, knowing those people died.

I was in school and like all the teachers started crying and we were like "whaaats going on?" they wouldn't tell us what happened I went home and my mom was sooo happy to see us. She was crying. I was like so scared. I hope nothing like that ever happens again it would be likkke horrible I don't think I culd survive!
