Is serenity the pilot of firefly or is it supposed to be watched after "Objects in Space"? Basically, is it the end ir beginning?

Watch the TV show first, it's pilot is called Serenity.

There are about 13 episodes and Objects in Space is the series finale.

After objects in space, watch the movie entitled Serenity.

Enjoy!!!!!

I was really confused about this too when I first watched Firefly! I thought it was just me lol. Everyone else is right. The pilot and the movie are both named Serenity, and the pilot happens to be about the same length as a feature length film so it's way confusing. Just make sure you're watching the TV series and not the movie Serenity first! 🙂

Even more confusing is that Serenity The Movie starts with
a flashback to a few days/weeks before Serenity-the-pilot...
. (rather mild spoiler, but I thought better safe than sorry...)

I didn't read the first post properly and I thought OhWow was referring to the movie and I was thinking it would be a sad, cruel joke to say it is a prequel to Firefly.

Okay Thanks for clearing that up guys...I'm gunna watch Serenity(Movie) now 🙂

NOOOOOOOO DOOOOOOONT!!!!. If you've already seen Firefly, feel free to watch the movie but if you haven't, it would be a baaaad idea.

LOL. I've watched the whole series, it's alllll good 🙂

I watched Serenity the movie twice, years before I ever watched the series. Watching the film after the series only shows how inferior the film is. At least for me it did.

My DVD set of firefly has episodes on each disc which don't play* or don't play all the way through so i've watched kind of haphazardly, as often as i can. (And i still have some surprises to come - w00t!)

It's all wonderful in any order 🙂

* ty that ebayer! 😡

Really?? You thought the movie was bad?? I liked it a lot, and thought it was a nice way to tie up a couple of loose ends.

I agree. Plus it added some elements that I really liked:
origin of the Reavers and the entire "can't stop the signal" theme- truth, freedom, autonomy, integrity etc. At least that's how I interpret it. 🙂

Yup. Having watched the series and enjoyed the tone of it, Serenity was a massive let down. The only parts I liked were River's fight scenes (for the sheer majesty of the them) and the explanation of how the Reevers originated.

I don't think the movie is bad, but IMO the show certainly is much better. Also, when I first watched the movie - hadn't seen Firefly then yet, as the movie aired on our TV about a year earlier than the show... [insert "stupid German TV" rant here] - I actually fell asleep over it. *lopsided sheepish smile*

I slightly agree. I think Serenity was just a lot darker than the series, which I hadn't been expecting. There weren't as many funny moments (or perhaps it's just that they didn't stick in my mind) to lighten the tone and as much as I did like the film I thought there was something missing.
