Any thoughts on how long (chronologically) the first series is supposed to be? The other series, which have twice the number of episodes, span about a year each, but in "Out of Mind, Out of Sight" it seems to be implied that Buffy hadn't come to Sunnydale until after Marcie disappeared, only six months previously.
 
I think 6 months is a good estimate. She arrived in the middle of the school year, and as the May Queen/Spring Fling was the last two episode, which suggests the enhd of the year, my guess would be sometime around January., maybe just after her 16th birthday, as she was Called when she was 15.

Buffy's Birthday + Season One = major f*ckup. Remember the legendary blooper in "IR,YJ"? One of the many things they hadn't nailed down yet at all for S1. 😉

Still, I'd agree about the ca. 6 months theory. I like it that they made the speed of time consistent between the 'verse and real life (with the obvious exception of Angel S4), so if the 22-ep seasons all cover one year minus summer break (for discussions sake, let's say 10 months), the 12-ep Season 1 would be around 5-and-a-half months.
 
Ok, yeah, major mes up with the birthday, but considering what we know from later seasons, her birthday is the end of January/beginning of February, so it fits.

In the episode 'I Robot, You Jane' Buffy's date of birth is displayed on a computer screen and is very wrong. I think it says she was born in 1979 or something.

According to 'The Gift' Buffy was born in 1981, but in 'I Robot, You Jane' her birthdate is listed on the computer screen as 1979.

On the cusp of Aquarius, which means it could be towards the end of January, but not the beginning of February.
i wish i could site why i always am thinking this, but ive recognized her birthday as january 19th. perhaps that was a specific birthday ep? or someone offical-like said so? or perhaps because that is very capricorn on the cusp of aquarius 🙂? hehe, probably some combination of that, but thats when i consider her birthday anyway.

Actually, the blooper is even worse. One of her birthdates is listed as 1979, the other as 1980. The two scenes where her bio is listed on the screen, following each other directly, both contradict each other and later established canon. A continuity nightmare!
 
Most shows try to keep each full season as being equal to roughly a year, so once The WB passed on the pilot and then announced it would be airing at midseason (meaning 13 episodes would have been the highest amount they would have gotten), they probably decided season one would equal half of a year.

I could be wrong but I could have sworn it's implied the school year just started in the pilot, which means had it been a fall series that would have equaled one complete school year (details are often changed from the pilot).
