I don't this has ever been discussed here, and I'm sure that it's never been addressed in any sort of way in canon, so it's anybody's guess, and theories are welcome.

We know that the character of Blade, the Day Walker in the movie series is the result of a pregnant woman being bitten by a vampire, resulting in a son who "has all of their (the vampires) strengths, but none of their weaknesses." but Blade isn't a part of the Buffyverse. So, what do you think would happen in the Buffyverse if a pregnant woman were turned? The same thing? A miscarriage? A stillborn child? Or maybe just an eternally pregnant, unable to give birth, vampire?

Do you mean like in Twilight, if Buffy had Angel's child? No that is to horrible to think of. Lets say if Buffy got pregnant with Spikes child. Would the baby look like Spike or Buffy? I'm trying to imagine the daughter with Spikes hair.
It is better than the other way Buffy's daughter, a miss captain blockhead?

On another subject entirely, I wasn't trying to make out that you don't like unicorns.

An old joke...

If Buffy and Spike had a baby, and the baby was a girl, what would they name her?

ans... Peg, because a peg is a small spike

(terrible joke, I know...)

I mean, just medically speaking, I would think the baby would miscarry/be stillborn, since a baby is dependent on bloodflow/oxygen from the mother. And being as vampires don't breathe...Hmmm.

Take that out of the equation, I would think the baby would be born human since it would have a separate soul. And then probably be eaten. Which is quite disturbing.

I'd guess die, or Vampire baby.

Technically to become a vampire you have to drink vampire blood when your basically dead, the baby would be technically dead around the same time the mother is and would probably get some of the blood the same way the mother does so vampire baby foetus?

I agree, the baby wouldn't survive, but vampires DO breathe. If for no other reason, air is required to talk, smoke, and we've even seen both Angel and Spike breathing hard after exertion (it's the actors who have to breathe, obviously, but still...) so it could be argued that vampires retain their host's involuntary reflex to breathe, even though they don't actually need to.

Well, they might breathe or "pretend" to breathe, but are they actually taking in and processing oxygen?

They are in a literal sense, as their lungs full with oxygen etc, but as oxygen is transported around the body via blood flow, and vampires blood doesn't flow due to their lack of heart beat, then an unborn baby would be starved of oxygen, and die.

If by some kind of miracle vampire blood got to it in time, then I'd go with vampire foetus, but I'd say it's unlikely, so the baby would die, and the vampire mother would miscarry at some point.

Vampires do have blood circulation, because we've seen at least one vampire (Spike) bleed. Plus the quite obvious fact that male vampires are able to attain an erection, which would be impossible without blood flow.

It's also impossible for blood to flow without a heartbeat

You'll have to take that up with Joss. He's the one who wrote about all the vampire sex

I'm not overly concerned, maybe you should tweet him if your so interested in vampire's erections 🙂

But, it is a canonical fact that vampires don't have heartbeats: the erections must be some kind of magic, or maybe they're inflatable or something, but they cannot be created by a none beating heart.

I'm pretty sure in the Blade films that the vampirism is characterised as some sort of virus- they really don't really use the word 'magic' at any point. They use scientific weapons to make vampires explode in the first film, and in the second film genetic engineering creates a new strain of vampire.

In Buffy its demononic possession/magic, so the baby would be completley unaffected.

Still, the thought of a Buffy/Spike baby did have me nearly heaving up my own feet, so thanks for that. 🙂

What makes a heart beat? Is it the sound of the valves opening and closing because if that is the case then technically there is not a heartbeat.
If it is the opening and closing that causes the blood to flow and if it is, once the blood has started to flow would it keep flowing if the valves were stuck open?

About the baby, would Buffy prefer a daughter with sticky up hair or peroxide blonde hair?
Can you imagine the 'fun' that would ensue with Spike as the daddy of a daughter with sticky up hair?

I asked my girlfriend about this, as she's a midwife so has some knowledge of babies and the like. She said a baby could survive for 4 minutes if its mother before it would begin to suffer an adverse reaction, leading to death.

So, I suppose if the blade situation were to happen, it's entirely possible that whatever process diffuses the vampire blood into the mother's blood stream could reach the baby in that time, ego potential vampire baby!

With Joss's love of all things Marvel, I am surprised a similar storyline has not been developed, or at least quasi included.

There was a case where a baby in the mothers womb survived for a while before being given the blood it needed. It happened in Twilight, so it must be true, right?
There have been many cases where a person slows their own 'heartbeat' down, it is barely recogniseable as a 'heartbeat' it is that slow. Astral Projection, deep sea divers, the record for staying underwater is 20 minutes I believe. Many of the top notch racing drivers keep their 'heartbeat' regular and constant.
