Sharknado!!!!

Another suggestion is to always swim in company with someone who is a lot slower than you and whom you are willing to sacrifice. Have sharp nails and when you see a fin, scratch your friend to draw blood and then quickly swim the other way.

Yeah, you don't get too many 'Great Whites' in the Solent.
Neven been a fan of beaches, with my pale skin I tend to burn easily (No I'm not a Vampire!) so I tend to stick to forests for my downtime.
So not much chance of a Shark attack......but those squirrels can be nasty!

Do you have worry about bearsharks also 😱

My advice myself is to stay close to the beach . If you do then the shark will stay away since i heard they don't like shallow water & will stay from it .Plus if a shark is coming at you most people will just try & get away from it & not do anything else.

Lol, you do that, sharks hunt in shallow water. Baby tigers and wobbygongs live in a slight bay near Chenyes, we used to camp there, they targeted white bikinis. It was hilarious. Almost like bull fighting. I also have a friend who was bitten by a shark, during school swimming lessons. Direct quote from the teacher "those sharks dont have teeth" well, this girl still has an epic leg scar to prove that wrong!

Great Whites are off my coast too. Especially right now, the Salmon are running. There is a beach called Salmon holes where you can catch a wave and knock out you're dinner with the board on the way. I have another story of when we went there at boarding school, girls in the shallows, boys in the surf. The boys came back white faced,a great white had breeched within 20 m of them. The beach drops off into very deep water.

We used to stand on the cliffs and check it out. Mostly grey nurse sharks, which were big but harmless, if they were around, we swam. Dolphins and birds also gave us a good indication (no sexy surf lifesavers down here).

There is a whaling station that shut decades ago, but the sharks still wait around for the whale parts. Its so interesting!

I agree with @DeadlyDuo that a sound wave type thing is a good idea. They do sell these already for personal use. Getting the right sound, might need work.

I was listening to a bubble physicist the other day who said certain radar sounds from boats, upset a fish's swim bladder, and ultimately the equiptment used to find schools of fish, can also kill them.

We have enviro nets trailing at beaches in the state now (after their failed - lets lure 'em to swimming beaches and catch em all! I dont think they caught a single great white)

I've been afraid of sharks ever since I came across this bad boy.....

Seriously, they were brutal! I loved the Ecco games but hated the sharks. So when I bought Ecco for the Dreamcast, I found there were sharks just outside the bay on the first level, so I never left the bay. I just swam and jumped and played like a dolphin would.

I can just about handle the sharks on GTA V, but my heart races as soon as I see them.

As for real life, I saw a shark in the semi-submersible at the Great Barrier Reef, so there was no way I was going scuba diving or snorkelling after that, even in the most beautiful coral reef on Earth! 🙄

Well ya missed out, its mostly dead/bleached now.

I admit, I was worried swimming there myself, especially since we went sky diving over it on the first day - there were more big fish than I could count! I was happy enough floating around the edges, but I have some weird past life fear of swimming over coral. I hung my head off the side of the boat with a snorkle on while my bestie scuba dived haha!

Lol. You don't have to outswim the shark, you just have to outswim the other person. 😛

There's sharks in Grand Theft Auto?

but I have some weird past life fear of swimming over coral.

Can't coral cut you or trap your foot? That would be the last thing you want in Shark infested waters.

I can't swim. But I'd learn, just for the opportunity to go into the ocean with @DeadlyDuo. I've always wanted to see a shark eat someone. 🙂

I know you want me to film the moment the shark eats you for posterity, but I'm afraid I'd be too busy swimming back to shore. Maybe you could get one of those helmet cams? Not only will you have a first-hand experience, but the found footage would give an amazing view inside a shark's mouth and its digestive system. 😛

Ah, you've obviously twisted misinterpreted my words. I was rather looking forward to watching YOU become shark bait. AWESOMENESS! 😛

You might've been looking forward to me being the shark's dinner but I can assure you that won't be happening. YOU are still the one that's going to be eaten. 😀

If I go, YOU'RE going with me. I will drag you into the water, rest assured. It will be a glorious death. Especially if I get away. 😀

Not if I hit you with a conveniently available rock, enabling me to escape whilst you stay there dazed as the shark approaches. 😛

Well, I'm sure that my conveniently available harpoon (which accidentally impales you several times) will turn you into a yummy shark snack. I'll watch and wave at you. 😛

And I wish you well as I ride away on my secret jet ski, leaving you in the water. 😛

@Anyanka Bunny Killer

They knew you were talking about them and now they are after you...
Numerous sharks spotted in So Cal

See...I told you so. They're gathering in preparation for an attack.

I saw a report this morning (on KTLA 5) about all the those sharks
Apparently, these are juvenile Great Whites. Most of them are "only" 6-8 feet in length.

I urge all Sineyans to take a refreshing dip in So Cal's lovely ocean waters. 🙂

Juvenile = big appetites

Chomp chomp
Bit of a trek coming all the way over to S Cal just to become fishfood*

Think I'll go for a walk in the forest instead...take my chances with the squirrels.......

Edit:
*Yes I know Sharks are not fish 😛
