Shells?

I don't get it. What's the significance of the title?

I know there's kind of a shell insignia on the sarcophagus, and I'm not sure, but isn't that what Illyria calls Fred's body - the shell? That must be it, right? Still...I don't get it.

I think your right with Illyria calling Fred's body her "shell". I also think it has something to do with what's inside people. This episode was about letting out things that were on the inside. For instance Spike saying that he wanted to stay with Angel and fight what ever is coming. Therefore, we all live inside these "shells" and what we really are, are kept inside of the "shells". lol. Sorry to get a philosophacle on you. That's my interpretation anyways. BTW, I can't believe that Fred is really gone!!!!

I know... I can't believe it either. I almost feel guilty, because I'm enjoying Illyria so much. I feel like a traitor.

BTW, don't feel guilty about getting philosophical. I did ask for significance.

Brulia just explained all that I was gonna say 😛. I think the point is that our "shells" don't matter... just what we really are matters... a classic metaphor. That's why Illyria kept calling Fred a the 'shell.'

Ha ha... so many people love Illyria... Don't feel guilty! IMO, Fred and Illyria are completely different, so it's it's loving two different characters.

Hehe I think in a way, Buffy and Angel do have these deep underlying themes that Joss wants us to recognize, and that being philosophical doesn't hurt too much.
