It comes out Christmas Day. I'm not too sure how I feel about Downey Jr as Holmes, but Jude Law is yummy to look at any day.

I've never been a huge Holmes fan, but RDJ might just be the push that I need to go see this movie. Now that he's cleaned up his act, he's quite yummy. XD

I could just about handle RD Jr in a Sherlock Holmes movie, but Jude Law is in it too? Ahhhh.

It looks like it'll be a real fun movie, but that whirring noise you'll hear in the background won't be from a faulty sound track, it'll be Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Basil Rathbone spinning in their graves.

It reminds me of " The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen " movie. Which isn't a good thing.🙁
Rachel Mcadams is all kinds of pretty though, which is a good thing. 🙂

Kinda makes me feel like this is what the Buffy movie will be like...same name but totally different character.

You see, I think it is going to be more like Conan Doyle's character than any other representation has given. Sherlock Holmes was actually a massive drug user and not quite the prim and proper gentleman that older TV/film versions have suggested he is, so I think it could be a fairly plausible representation of Holmes.

I hate Jude Law and was gutted he was Watson but after seeing the trailer, I'm not quite as annoyed. I liked what I saw. And I just love Robert Downey Jr - he is just all kinds of awesome!

Looks good to me...although my lack of financial freedom would urge me to wait until it comes out on video. I have several other movies I'm splurging to see this summer. For some reason I could see Hugh Jackman in the role of Sherlock but I'm sure RDJ will do quite splendid.

white avenger agrees: Holmes used drugs (Opium, I think) between cases, because he got bored with inactivity, but I can't believe that he ever did it during a case. But it's been a long tome since I read any of them, so i might be wrong.

He was an opium user, yeah. The only example that I can think of, off the top of my head, is The Hound of the Baskervilles because I've studied it recently. There's a part in that where Watson describes coming home to Holmes, who is sitting in a room full of smoke and it suggests that he's a bit of out of it. I think Holmes says something about the fact he's been standing on maps and transporting his mind to other parts of the country or something. And that's definitely after he's become involved in the case of the Baskervilles.

But that's the only example I can give at the moment. Much of what I 'know' (think, might be a better term) about Sherlock Holmes has been from what I've been taught, or discussed, within my seminars at university.
