The drama domination this fall continues with another pickup for a freshman hourlong series. ABC has given a back 9 order to Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., bringing its first season to 22 episodes. The series premiered as TV's highest-rated drama debut in nearly four years and, while it has slipped in Week 2 and Week 3, still ranks as the No. 1 new show of the 2013-14 season among adults 18-49 with solid DVR gains (4.0 Live+Same Day rating/5.7 Live+3 rating). Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. joins Fox's Sleepy Hollow and NBC's The Blacklist as the third new series this fall to get a pickup (second season and full-season for the other two dramas, respectively). Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., which marks Marvel's first television series, was co-created by The Avengers' Joss Whedon, along with Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, who serve as executive producers along with Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell. ABC Studios is co-producing with Marvel.

I'm not overrun with love for the show, but I like it so I'm happy!

Me too, it needs to start getting better though, because aat the minute it's bordering on boring, and a bit cliche

No real surprise. Given the success of all of Marvel's projects lately, topped off by "The Avengers," Marvel could probably make a series about Howard the Duck and sell it, especially if it also has Joss' name associated with it.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that this is a good show in its own right.

Im glad, I am waiting for it to grow on me a bit more, I could take it or leave it at the moment but I have only seen 3 eps.

Good to know that it will be at least one proper season.
Hopefully that will lead to a deeper, well developed, story that can run for a while.

/SK

I am pleased. I thought the pilot was fantastic and the second episode was solid, if unspectacular. I have yet to watch the third. I like that they seem to have been given the kind of budget to make a sci-fi/supers show look good. Joss will be spread thin with rest of phase 2 of the Marvel universe, so we'll have to wait to see how things turn out over then next couple of years, and what happens after his contract ends. I like it so far and hope it continues to be entertaining and that the abc/Disney/Marvel execs continue to think it is a worthwhile use of their money.

I can't really get into Avengers, although I keep trying. I can't even remember this most recent episode, though. This season I'm loving Sleepy Hollow and The Blacklist. And FINALLY the rest of the viewing audience seems to feel the same. This might be the first season where I don't have to be scared about my favorites. 🙂
