Ship' arguing

Why do we argue over "who should be with who" and what ship is better than another. Why do we even having shipping preferences at all? Why can't we try to better appreciate some relationships than what we already do?

Like Cangel:
Alright, I'll admit I'm not a big fan. Probably because I had a relationship like that before and she ended up breaking my heart and we tried to be friends after that and it's so complicated and I don't wish that on anyone, especially Angel, my all-time favourite character... even if he is fictional
Connor/Cordelia:
Okay, disgusting I know. But there might be people out there who actually like it. I get it, some people think it's incesty, I understand. But I feel like Fred was more a mother to Connor than Cordelia.
Spike/Angel:
Okay maybe it's because Gay and bisexual men make me feel a little uncomfortable. But who knows, maybe it could work out.

Anyways, what do you guys think?

To each his own, I guess. I don't tend to participate in shipping discussions much because I guess I just find other parts of the series more interesting. i also find things to like and dislike about each of the relationships and don't get much out of 'taking sides', personally. But it certainly motivates a lot of people here, so let them have their discussions - I've read some battle-ship threads and they're often really insightful. That's what's cool about a board like this - whatever aspect of 'Buffy Studies' you gravitate towards, it's here somewhere and so is someone willing to discuss it with you.
 
Because it's fun. We don't get mad, angry (well, most of the times) and use harsh words, we just want to defend couple that we like, but that doesn't mean we don't respect each other opinions. I love Bangel, but that doesn't mean I don't respect members who love Spuffy or any other ship, and who think Bangel is not meant to be. We argue about a lot of things, 'ship argues are just most passionate ones.

And about the 'ships you mentioned.

Cangel - I'm not a fan, I like them more as friends, and I'm disappointed that they tried to ruin such a good friendship with romance. I see a lot of people like Cangel, but your personal feelings are other thing.
Connor/Cordelia - Don't see them as a couple, to me it's like Giles/Buffy or Xander/Dawn.. not existing.
Spangel - Spangelus is funny, I have to admit, but I don't 'ship Spangel, but some of people do. I don't know if this statement makes you homophobic, but I'm not judgemental, and again, it's your personal feeling.

Don't see why that would be homophobic. I don't ship, say, Maggie Walsh and Mrs. Summers either, but that doesn't make me homophobic...
 
It's just how it is. I watched both series last Winter and throughout watching I developed an intense love for 'ships like Bangel, Woz, Fresley, etc. You don't just "choose" to 'ship something. The arguing... yeah, it might be pointless, but when you enjoy a couple so much and see another person saying something about that couple that you just believe to be totally wrong, then arguments can come about.

Personally, I don't like arguing. Discussions are another thing. But either way that goes, even if I hate Cangel or dislike Spuffy, that doesn't mean I have a problem with the 'shipper. Just the 'ship.
 
Well for me it is fun to discuss the ships and hear others opinions. I like reading and participating in the debates. I feel it is a way to show how much you love that ship and the show in general. Let's face it relationships are a big part of shows and it is nice to talk about them. I don't agree with every ship but I like to keep an open mind and hear why others do like I said I think it is fun. 🙂

I love Spangel, romantic or not, but I'm also sure that a romantic relationship would be... Not very probably. 😀

Anyway, as others said, it's fun. 😀 I view it as discussing rather than arguing, and it's always fun to see the POV of others. Discussions rarely get offensive, and if they do then somebody will certainly step in. 🙂
 
Personally, I've never seen the sense in all this "he belongs with her," and "she really loved him the most," and "they would be great together." Oh, and let's not forget the ultimate, "they are soul mates, theirs is a forever love." Come on, folks, just how lame is that? People who get all embroiled in discussions like that, as if on the greater scheme of things it really matters obviously have way too much free time on their hands, and they should go out and find something constructive to do. We're talking about a show that was cancelled years ago, and now it's been brought back in COMIC BOOK FORM, for crying out loud. And what's even worse, there are otherwise responsible adults, with house payments to make and families to support, and they're throwing their money away on COMIC BOOKS! What have we come to, to have fallen this low? I mean, really, and I know that you are going to have a hard time grasping anything so absurd, but there are even people who travel great distances just to attend conventions where the former actors, writers, directors, and no doubt even the janitor who swept up the stage when the shooting for the day, and they hang on every word that these people say just as though it actually matters. I'm telling you, my friends, there are some sick people out there.

And I'm one of them.

I'm not one who argues the Bangel/Spuffy dilemma, mostly because I can see the good and bad in both ships. I lean more toward Bangel mostly because I thought Angel and Buffy worked a little better together, but I can see the good aspects in Spuffy. 🙂

I still think Buffy's one and only true love was Owen, with the Emily Dickinson books. But you don't get many Bowens around here (or is that Owuffy?), so I tend to keep my mouth shut.

You just shouldn't take the Spangelship that seriously, I think.
I think no-one here sees them in a real, stormy relationship like Buffy/Angel. Imagine Spike and Angel dancing at the prom and Angel giving Spike a ring... come on.

Yes, I can see good in both Bangel and Spuffy, but I lean towards Bangel a little more too, like HisMrs said.
 
Cangel- I love them together because I think Angel was very happy with Cordy, and he's my second choice for Cordy if she can't be with Xander.
Connor/Cordy- I despise them together and they ruined Season 4 because it was disgusting to see Connor sleeping with his mother figure.
Spangel- I don't consider them as a couple.

And like PB said, we just defend our ships and sometimes joke around with eachother about it, we don't hate eachother and say bad things to people if we don't agree. It's fun most of the time anyway 🙂

And there's nothing wrong with that, everyone's entitled to an opinion. Anyways, didn't think this thread would be that popular actually. But while we're on the topic of ships', I ship Caith (Connor and Faith) and I'm always hoping they'll be together in the end which they will, if not I'm sending in hate mail to whoever's responsible lol. Don't think there's anyone else out there who ship' Caith.

In response to the topic and a certain post in this thread, I don't see the point and coming onto a fan message board if we aren't going to discuss what we liked about the show in question. If you feel we should get a life then so be it but we would you be on this board if you didn't love this show too?

I ship because I just naturally like certain characters with certain characters. I'm a romantic at heart and I hate it when love is squandered in TV shows and when natural chemistry is wasted. Shipping, It's just how I watch and why I watch.
 
I was having a bit of an off-day yesterday when I submitted this, kind of upset at the time. But everyone here makes good points. I understand that everyone has different preferences and I get that. And some of the relationships, if not most of the relationships in the Buffyverse are amazing and unlike anything you see on most supernatural shows like Charmed for instance, (Paige had a different boyfriend everytime you saw her, how annoying). But I just wish people could support the ships' they love without having to bash others, (not listening any names here)
 
When I criticise ships, it's got nothing to do with my love for another ship, it's to do with my dislike for those ships. I might bash Bangel sometimes, but that's not because I like Cangel it's because I don't like Bangel and will say why. Just like I don't like S6 - not because I love S3 and feel the need to defend it, it's because I don't like S6. People have their opinions and will voice them. Live with it.
