Ship Comparisons: Buffyverse and The Vampire Diaries

Okay, guys, the main reason why I've been so inactive on this board for the last year is that I got thoroughly sucked into The Vampire Diaries. Sometimes it's a ridiculous martyr pileup and it suffers badly from protagonist-centered morality, but I love it to bits anyway. Which may or may not have a great deal to do with Ian Somerhalder's absurdly mesmerizing eyes. I just--gah, I mean seriously, how are eyes like that even possible? It's mind-boggling.

(Spoilers of S5 of TVD here, by the way. Sort of.)

Anyway, for those of you who also watch that show and tend to be shippers, I'm curious about the comparisons. I feel like there probably aren't a lot out there who are Buffy/Angel shippers AND Damon/Elena shippers (like me), whereas I think most Buffy/Spike shippers are probably also Klaus/Caroline shippers, but I could be wrong.

As far as I'm concerned, an online poll last year said it best: "Stefan/Elena are no Buffy/Angel, but Damon/Elena would be waaaay better than Buffy/Spike." Buffy/Angel and Damon/Elena are my flagships and I completely adore them. I can't stand Buffy/Spike or Stefan/Elena, and I feel Klaus/Caroline is an absolutely appalling notion that I hope never ever ever comes to fruition. If I had my way, the good guys would've been free to kill Klaus without any danger to themselves (and even Tyler would've agreed that sacrificing him in the process would've been worth it--and, honestly, would it have made much of a difference to the show, considering how little screentime Tyler's had lately anyway?), but since we're stuck with him, I could at most handle him being *friends* with Caroline. She would bring out the best in him like probably no one else could, but the thought of them actually together severely creeps me out.

So that's me, and I could elaborate on what I love about Damon/Elena and what I can't stand about Stefan/Elena, but I'd rather watch the new episode of Downton Abbey right now.

Other TVD ships before I go:
I love Caroline/Tyler, but I feel like it's not really working anymore? There do seem to be a lot of hints in a Stefan/Caroline direction, though. They would probably be awesome together. I would also be interested in Stefan/Katherine or Matt/Katherine now that she's all human.

Haha I'm the exact opposite: I ship Spike/Buffy and Stefan/Elena! 😀 I found it weird that I liked Stelena more than Delena because Delena is practically the equivalent of Spuffy, which is my Buffy otp. I actually kinda disliked Stefan at first, but I grew to love him and his relationship with Elena. That's not to say I don't like Damon. I love Damon. He's hilarious. I even enjoy Delena. I just like Stelena more. 🙂

I liked Caroline/Tyler. I can't stand Klaus/Caroline, or really just Klaus himself, but I have a friend who simply adores him. In my opinion, he should have been killed off ages ago. To each their own, I guess 😀

I ship Buffy/Angel but I don't ship either Stefan/Elena or Damon/Elena. I've long grown tired of that silly (and creepy) ship. I don't understand Elena's (or Stefan & Damons) actions at all given her knowledge about the whole Stefan/Katherine/Damon debacle.

In the poll I voted I ship Buffy/Angel and hate Klaus/Caroline because that was the closest answer to my feelings, but I don't really hate Klaus/Caroline. Both are neat characters, but I just don't find them all that interesting together. Personally, I've always rooted for Tyler/Caroline; but as little screen time as Ty has been getting I wouldn't be surprised if they split up. I do hope they remain friends and that his character is around from time to time.

I've never been crazy about a Stefan/Caroline pairing. I adore their friendship, and honestly feel like Caroline deserves SO much more that being a rebound and/or place-holder for Elena. I don't see how she could ever be more than that.

Stefan/Katherine could be fun for a short period, but eventually it would get tedious since shes *sigh* not Elena.🙄 Matt/Katherine could be fun too, but I'd want him to have the upper hand in the relationship.

Hah! I was pretty surprised when I ended up on Team Damon even though I'm a Buffy/Angel shipper. I really didn't like Damon in S1 (I wanted him constantly onscreen so I could stare at his eyes, but he was so horrible!), but then there was a lot of fantastic, well-paced character development that made him awesome, and his relationship with Elena progressed the same way, so by the time he was stealing a kiss halfway through S3, I was all for it.

Stefan, on the other hand...I felt like he was supposed to be the "broody" one, like Angel, but where it works with Angel, with Stefan, he really just comes across as an angsty teenager (not to mention a gigantic hypocrite with the whole "good brother/bad brother" thing, but that's a separate issue). And since he's had nearly a century and a half to outgrow his angsty teenager phase, I couldn't give him a pass for that, and it just bugged the crap out of me. So I didn't want someone mentally and emotionally frozen at age seventeen holding Elena back forever. And then there was all the horrible stuff he did to her in S3, and all that stuff in S4 about wanting to fix her. Sheesh. So yeah, didn't like Stefan/Elena long before I wanted Damon/Elena to happen, but my dislike of it (and Stefan) has only grown since then.

And Klaus! I yelled at my TV every time they almost succeeded in killing him only for something to go wrong at the last second. Drove me nuts. And I'm really getting tired of the redemption arcs for villains. Damon, Katherine, and sort of Rebekah, yes, but Klaus? Is Silas going to get one too? Can't we have just ONE major villain they get to actually kill off? PLEASE?

Ok I like both "Spuffy" and "Bangle" but I don't care about either "Stelena" or "Delena" At first I liked her and Stefan together but then she started to get on my nerves because how do you allow yourself to get that close to your man's brother and you know their history and situation. At least Katherine was upfront and blunt about it lol (not that it was right either, just saying) And I hope she just stays with Damon now and leaves Stefan alone because she made her choice but it doesn't look like it. As far as Caroline and Klaus, I kind of like them, they're ok. I was actually hopeing the same thing about Katherine and Stefan now that she's human but it looks more like it would be Matt, which is cool too.

Yes, the fact that they never killed Klaus would be funny if it wasn't so painfully pathetic. I'm hoping he grows into his own character on The Originals.

Stefan might be a nearly bicentennial angsty teenager whose pretense at being the "good" brother is hilariously hypocritical, but Klaus is a freaking thousand-year-old bratty toddler whose frequent temper tantrums end in bloodbaths, so they'd better have some seriously mind-blowing character development up their sleeves for him if they really want him to carry his own show for longer than half a season. The main reason I was interested in watching The Originals was that I thought Elijah would be the second most prominent character, which would make main character Klaus worth it (beyond the fact that it gets him out of range of Caroline), but Elijah barely made it to the end of one episode before getting shoved back in his coffin, and now they might find a way to kill him off for good. *rage* At least Rebekah and Marcel are interesting, and the backstory is starting to be more fun now that it's not quite so fraught with exposition we already got two years ago on TVD.

I like Buffy with Angel, Hate Buffy with Spike
I like Elana with Damon, but dont hate her with Stefan, but it's far less interesting.
I like Caroline and Klaus.

I think on paper Stefan is Angel and Damon is Spike, I had the exact same though my first watch. I thought it was odd I hated Spike and Buffy, but liked Elana and Damon. But I don't think the characters translate, so I don't think the comparisons work exactly.

.... And I don't like Elena so I dont give two figs whether she wants Damón or Stefan. I suppose I would prefer her with Stefan but only because I love Damón and would rather see him with someone else. 🙂 but I wouldn't claim to actively ship either pairing

I'm definitely a Buffy/Angel, Damon/Elena shipper 😀 Me and my hubby were kind of discussing this the other day actually! lol He was getting at me for having a thing for both Angel and Damon and it kind of clicked that they're both tall, dark, handsome, vampires that turn bad, or are 'bad' lol 😀 I guess I subconsciously ship the main female character with the guy I fancy LOL 😀

I ship Buffy/Angel, Stefan/Elena, and Klaus/Caroline.
I'm only on season 4 of TVD so far, though, and Elena is extremely irksome. I desperately want for Damon and Stefan to just leave her.
Odd enough, I think Delena does not fit at all and that both characters ruin each other when in a relationship. Which is the same way I feel about Spuffy 😀

Vampire Diaries shipping is ridiculous, it's basically taken over the whole show, it seems like they produce story-lines in order to ship one character with another. Elena is one of the most annoying characters ever to exist, I don't get why anyone would want to be with her. She's always going on about her freedom to make choices, she is so stupid, no wonder people worry about her making choices for herself that effect everyone else.

Personally, I want Elena to be killed off for good, and for there to be some actual plot to be put back into this story, as it's getting very dull very quickly.

On the other hand, The Originals, so far at least, is turning out to be vastly superior in terms of narrative structure, although the shipping factor is still there, but not to such a high degree that it dictates the show.

I'm definitely a Buffy/Angel and Stefan/Elena fan but I agree with everyone saying how annoying Elena has been in the show. Although Elena and Damon isn't as ridiculous in my opinion as Buffy and Spike I still think that it is ridiculous for them to be together. I hope the show rewards Stefan with someone he can be with and move passed Elena. Knowing them though they will probably have Elena switch back to Stefan or kill him off.
