Ships Moritorium

For me, what was so special about Buffy was how it had "everything": horror, humor, action/adventure, and romance. That said, I'll admit that a lot of my interest in the show is relationship-related. Spuffy is my main interest that keeps me coming back to the fandom. I never tire of fan fiction/graphics/meta/discussion featuring the couple.

A think the story would lose a lot if the romance factor was removed. But that said, it wouldn't be a bad idea to back off from it for a bit to focus on the plot and action again. A lot of the chaos in the fandom lately has been as a result of relationship issues, so maybe taking a step back from a focus on those storylines would calm everyone down.

I'd say it's pretty Joss-y, in the sense of him not wanting couples to be happy. But I don't think he'd go that far. I don't like that idea. This show, one of the wonderful aspects of this show, is that it has alll genres, including romance. This would just lose one of those aspects, it's not Buffy. Also, it's far more interesting not happy couples than no couples at all.

Maybe it could be done as a "One off" episode like "Hush".
The premise of Hush would not have held up for a whole season but for one episode it was award winning.
So, how about as a single episode? Perhaps a "Hate" Demon is raised or a certain Talisman is activated and everyone starts hating everyone?
It could be called "No SHIP for you." 😀

LOL. And b
I agree - that without the ships it would be BORING. And it wouldn't be Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The various ships are important to the series for drama, comedy & romantic moments. Instead of just having Action & horror.

It wouldn't be true to the original show. Romances and intrigue were an important part of BtVS from Welcome to the Hellmouth. How about the sexual tension when Buffy met Angel, or Willow pining over Xander? It wouldn't have been the same show without it.

Yeah, Btvs without relationships would be pretty dull, especially in a comic. If all you have is the demons and vampires and Slayers without the drama between the main characters when they are the ones that you care about, no I wouldn't like that at all.

Answered that already, but I'll add that Buffy is NOT what those who don't watch think it is, i.e. hot blonde killing vampires and zombies. It has a personal side, the characters themselves, their relationships, their feelings, their real life troubles. So the coupling is part of that real life side of BtVS. Leaving that out, it remains what people think it is. In conclusion: must have it all!

ITA: I want it all! :)
I wonder if it would really be possible to have an entire season with no crushes, sweethearts, kisses, relationships, sexual tension...etc. It seems like at some point human nature would kick in and someone would develop feelings or have a moment of sexual tension with someone. Sure it possible to have a season where no one goes down the physical relationship road but I don't know its possible to completely cut out the emotional part of it.

ITA! Our main characters all have mystical sides to them: witches, Slayers, vampires, werewolves, mystical keys. But if they are anything, they are so incredibly human (even our fav vampires!), with all the joys & foibles that entails. Sexuality, friendship, romantic & familial love are all a part of that. But, it has to be done well. When those aspects are overemphasized (insert Angel mid-season 3 here, blech!) to the point that the other plot aspects are neglected, it becomes boring & not the shows/stories we know & love.

yup, balance is key.
There is also the very important fact that the drama would lose all its strength without the relationships and romance. I mean, imagine BS2 without romance. So basically Buffy doesn't love Angel, Angel doesn't love her, and at the end, she puts a sword through him to prevent the end of the world... yeah... ok... Then why should we care exactly ?

Romance is also often the start of the magical/other drama : what would have made Willow go dark if she hadn't been in love with Tara ? Say she'd have gone dark anyway... Without understanding her reasons (grief mainly, despair, revenge), would we have been able to "accept" her actions and forgive them ?

When we think about it, kinda everything in the show is related in one way or another to the romance... It's all about love, folks!

My problem with ships centers on Buffy. Let's face it - as long as Joss is in charge, Buffy is NEVER going to be a happy camper and will CONSTANTLY be having relationship issues. One reason I love Season 5 is that after Riley leaves, the lack of the Buffy-and-her-beau plot was a breath of fresh air.

Besides, as long as there is ships, people will keep bitca-ing about Bangel and Spuffy.

I would like to focus on Buffy's relationships with her sister and friends. I wouldn't mind an occasional focus on Dawn/Xander or Willow/Kennedy, but not to overdo it.

Agreed. I'd like more of a focus on the core four's dynamic.

Exactly. Willow and Xander seem to be sidelined this season. Want more of them with Buffy.
No ships would be no fun, but I really liked the cookie ending to Buffy. I don't want to see her choose either Spike or Angel because I think it is something best left unresolved. The Bangel v Spuffy war is one that I don't think either side should win. I like that the cookie metaphor and everything else in Chosen can be read in different ways and interpreted differently. No matter what anyone says about how "right" they are in seeing what they did in the finale in terms of Buffy's love life, there are different ways to interpret Buffy's actions in both that episode and the rest of the series to believe that Buffy would end up with either of the vampires or neither of them. I think it should stay that way.

I've come to the point where I no longer care about Buffy's relationship with the other Scoobies. I think she should have parted ways from them some time ago. Maintain the friendship, yes; but I think she needs to form some kind of life without them trying to maintain a high school relationship they have outgrown.

I, too, want the focus on Buffy and her friends. I want the writers to deal with the conflict between Buffy and Willow, Buffy's feelings about Xander/Dawn and the feelings she had for Xander, one single Xander/Willow scene.

Yep, less romance and more friendship please.

How about Buffy forming a life without Spike, Angel or the Scoobies? I'm for all that.

Do away with Spike and Angel. Definetely. They've been taking up so much screentime which is supposed to be Buffy the VAMPIRE SLAYER. The irony is very obvious.

A number of the non-core Scoobies, yes, you can get rid of them too. But the core 3 [Buffy, Willow and Xander] cannot be pulled out. Giles has hd the rug pulled from under his feet, one more core member and the plot is effectively dead.

If you'd seen the outrage at Tara's death (at least here in NZ), you know that killing any of the core 3 left will be even worse.

I seriously dont know what I want...I just want the love war to be over, I want some happiness for everyone for once. I love bangel & spuffy but neither of them seems to be able to work so maybe they should give it up and find someone new, all of them.
It seemed like angel were about to with cordelia but then she died🙁
and during that time he was seen on buffy just as in love with her as ever, please people make up your bloody minds already!
who would want to be involved with someone who goes pining after someone else?
(and this goes for the whole love-triangle)
I used to be a all bangel but re-watching the show, maybe too many times, I cant decide anymore, I've always been a huge Spike-fan too and I want him to be happy as well.
Sorry about the ranting I cant seem to focus right nowXD

when it comes to the others, I dont mind Dander (unless there's possibility for Donnor/Cawn?😉 ), and I hope Willow can find someone a little less snakey and more in our dimension to love.
to make it short I want romance in BtVS😛 just suprise me a little!
