Should Buffy and Scott's relationship lasted a bit longer?

At the beginning of season three when Buffy was trying to get over losing Angel she started seeing someone else who we might remember called Scott Hope.
Riley was basically suppose to be Buffy's chance to date an ordinary guy but I think Scott (or even Xander) should have been the first normal guy Buffy should have dated. Not saying I like Scott or find him interesting as a character but at least he's just an average Joe and not a cheesy character like Riley.
Maybe in the middle of season three Buffy and Scott should have broken up and Buffy takes back Angel. What do you think?
 
Until now I had completely forgotten about Scott. I'm neutral about him, didn't like or dislike him. I'm fine with the length of relationship they had.
 
Considering the fact Scott Hope turns out to be gay (Holden tells Buffy in S7 that Scott came out at some point after high school) no, I don't think it should have lasted longer than it did.

Scott might have been using Buffy as his beard to keep his sexuality a secret or he might have been using her to 'test' himself on whether or not he really was gay. I'm glad they broke up when they did.

I never realized that Scott from season 3 was mentioned in season 7. I guess it was because I didn't remember his name. Haha.

I didn't care for his character, he seemed too witty and annoying, we already have Xander for that role lol.
 
To me Scott was a storyline prop before Angel inevitably arrived back on the show. And they kinda come across as a young couple using each other for their own reasons - Buffy to get over Angel, and knowing in hindsight that Scott was gay he could have been just trying to fit in.

A couple of kids dating around... An important part of life but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Part from being generally attracted to each other (in that cute giggly way) I never really thought of Buffy and Scott as having much in common.... I won't dwell on whether or not Scott was gay but as for Buffy I think dating Scott was another one of her (rather failed) attempts at being 'normal'. She was a teenager, she wanted to fit in... Their fling makes sense. But it served its purpose, showing us and her how hard it was for her to keep her Slayer secret and her mind off Angel... The romance didn't need to go on, inevitably it would have met the same end so... To me - the sooner the better, leaving them both to move on one experience richer.
 
I thought the whole "Scott way actually gay" thing was kinda stupid. There was no indication of that when he was on the show and it struck me as a really weird retcon four seasons later. Dumb. It would be like if in AtS S4 Angel just came out with something like "Hey Cordy, I just suddenly remembered this conversation I had with Doyle. He didn't really feel anything for you. But I said it now, so hey, canon!". It was just kind of a useless line to me.

As to the OP, no, I couldn't stand Scott. He was a plot tool but even so, I found him kind of annoying.

It was actually an inside joke. The actor who played Scott went on to have a pretty major part as a gay character in Queer as Folk. This was just a nod to the actor, I believe.

Agree!! but I always saw that as put in there as a joke but also something Buffy and Holden could 'bond' over and also connect Holden (in the minds of the viewers) to Sunnydale high 🙂
