After watching Angel again on our rewatch, I couldn't help but see the parallels between how Angel came into her life and how later Severin does.

Should Buffy have learned her lesson (being that Angel turned out to be a vampire and not what he seemed)? Or did this help Severin to blind her to what he really was, since the last time someone had helped her kill the vampires like this it had been Angel with The Three?

Thoughts?

I think she would have known better if she wasn't feeling so down on herself at the time. Her guilt, self pity and strained friendships made her vulnerable.

Good point
Buffy has always seemed a bit too trusting. She was also too eager to bring some meaning in her life, trying to run away from reality, that she easily fell into Severin's trap.

yes, she should. And who in the right mind is trusting complete stranger, stranger who wanted to be vampire? Did she forgotten that Ford who wanted to be vampire, betrayed her, lured her into a trap and watned to sold her out? Why would she trust Severin? But Buffy writen by Chambliss is quite mindless... 🙁

Why would she trust Severin?

I think she felt desperate and lonely. The police were after her, Dawn and Xander kicked her out, she was scared to see her roomies, Willow was constantly reminding her that she destroyed the seed and made things more complicated...I think she just wanted a break from causing problems for her friends so she decided to handle him alone.

Well, there was Spike who had alien flying ship - best hiding spot ever. 😀 Also her escaping police was very contrived - she didn't really have reason to do this. Only reason was that it was convenient to the plot

yeah, although if she had been on better terms with the Scoobies I do think she would have told them about Sev right away.
Can I just steer this conversation back to the point, which is whether Buffy's past experience, specifically in the episode Angel, would have made her more or less likely to trust Severin.

It is not a question of how well the comics are written.
