Should Dawn have superpowers?

How can Dawn not be a potential or a slayer or whatever?
Buffy was able to die in Dawn's place because the had the same blood, or the monks made Dawn out of her.
If they where that similar that one could die instead of the other, wouldn't they both have super powers?
Am I making any sense?

You are making perfect sense to me. If Dawn was made from Buffy, her blood or whatever, then surely she should at least be a potential. I had assumed that this was exactly going to be the case in "Potential" and was really thrown when it turned out to be Amanda (who I was, even at this early stage, having visions of bludgeoning to death with half a brick). At the time I thought this made no sense but it did, however, pave the way for that very touching speech by the Xandman so I guess it worked out alright.

I think that it made her more special.
If you look at Xander, he's special because he has no supernatural powers or abilities, but with Dawn, she does have a supernatural background, but has no powers 😉
I think it makes it much more interesting...

i agree with that!

tru: interseing thought...

I was all up for Dawn turning Slayer...mainly cuz it made sense...

Dawn was created from Buffy's blood, which is the blood of a Slayer...

But who's saying that blood makes a girl a Slayer?

Oooh...interesting new thread idea...lol...

I don't think she should have powers. Besides that fact that I don't like her character (sorry but I don't), she's mortal. They've made if clear in episodes that she was uber-powerful, but they made her into a human. She wouldn't really be a witch quickly either. Willow said in any early episode "it takes years to be a full-fledged witch" or something like that. Being the Key might give her an extra push, but wouldn't give her powers. I heard Joss say they were going to originally give her the abilities to move objects with her mind and to talk to dead people. I just don't think it makes sense to give her powers. A lot of people disagree with me though.

I definitely think Dawn should have superpowers.

My view on the whole Dawn/Key thing:
There was a great force expended in breaking the universe into its various pocket energies: Dawn is part of that, that's how she was able to unlock portals to all those different dimensions. Sure, she was weakened when she opened all those portals, but I think she has been gradually been getting stronger, and is only just beginning to understand her true power.

As I see it, there's no reason why Dawn should have super powers. She used to be this really important key, but even then, she couldn't really do anything, she couldn't use the powers herself. So I think that even if, in the future, they'll find that Dawn still has some powers or are part of something importent.. it won't be the kind of powers that make her powerful, or make her able to do a lot of things.. Though I do think Dawn could become someone, cause she'll know a lot of stuff, she'll always be useful.. (Not that she is useful now, but I think she will be in the future when she's growed up a bit.. kinda saw her potential in the 7th season.. she started becoming more aware and less annoying..)

I totally think she does. I mean being the Key was like possessing a super power in itself. I thought that would have been an interesting storyline.

I agree with those of you who think that Dawn should have superpowers. This is my theory. You want to hear my theory? Good. Here's my theory.

Slayers blood is the most powerful form of life in existence. I think that when the demon essence moves from one Slayer to another, it alters not only things like stamina, ability it heal and whatnot, but their blood. I think the blood of a Slayer is the driving force for what makes the Slayer...a Slayer. I think her power lies in her blood. Because, like every other human being, in her blood, lies her life. Without her blood, she dies.

So, Dawn being 'manufactured' out of Buffy's essence, her blood, Dawn should get some share in that. If not a Slayer per se, then a Potiental [which would eventually lead to Slayerhood] or at least something more than ordinary. Like, maybe she has the quick ability to heal like a Slayer, but she's not as fast and not as coordinated. Or vice versa. She's doesn't have to have the whole package; I just would've preferred that she at least get something.

I'm kinda disappointed with that whole thing. I thought that I would get some vindication in 'Potiental', but no such luck. Especially with Anya's comment about Dawn and Buffy sharing the same blood. That made me giddy.

Oh, and that fact that she can wield a sword and beat things up is not a superpower. I can wield a sword and beat things up, and I am not a Slayer.

Your theory has a point especially because the Master uses the Slayer's blood to make himself powerful enough to leave the Church....
I would have to agree that Dawn, by rights, should have had some form of link to the slayer power. It would be interesting to see if anything may develop later on. She obviously isn't a run of the mill potential/slayer, that is a fact, but who knows whether her unique status as former key energy and her blood link to Buffy and the slayer line won't develop her some more individual abilities as the years go by.

I have the best idea for a super-power for Dawn! :d
The power to turn mute and invisible. And then the power to forget how to turn herself back :d

Ladies and gentleman, may I introduce my girl Maria and the president of the I Hate Dawn fan club! 😀

I always thought she should've had powers like being able to open portals. I read about that happening a lot in fanfictions...i think it would have made her character more interesting cuz i hated her

I thought Dawn was a decent character, not thoroughly developed but she intrigued me in a subtle way. Yes, sometimes she was obnoxious, but all characters tend to have their moments, as all people do, and all in all, she wasn't horrible.

However, even if I adored Dawn with the everlasting light of... something bright and everlasting, I wouldn't want her to have superpowers. Her position as The Key already made her interesting, and overloading her with a whole bunch of crap (excuse me, powers) would make it seemed overdone and cheesy.

Some people *have* to be normal. Normal humans are under represented on BtvS, seeing as most of the non-magical characters are of 'no-use'. Dawn already had something special about her, but she is relatively normal- at least, no super strength, no fangs, no bloodlust, no color full spritz of light.

Thats what is best about her. She is Buffy's little (Key) sister, and she is normal. As normal as a teenage girl can be, previously living on the Hellmouth and being a sister to someone who hadn't had you as a sister before. But I digress.

I agree
Dawn should not have had any powers. At the time she appeared on the show, there was no one that could have been put in any sort of danger they could not have gotten out of. Buffy was the Slayer, Willow and Tara were on the way to being uber-witches, even Xander was finally getting his s**t together. They needed someone that could be the 'victim' for the Scoobies to rescue. And her progression from annoying little sister to research gal was nice to see.

I am so glad about that. Dawn she no longer had a purpose and shouldn't have been anything but "normal human" if she must be "alive"

I would actually love to see her follow in Giles' footsteps and become a Watcher. That's what I've always wanted her to be.

I don't think that would have been necessary.

That's not really surprising. Dawn's character ended as a teenager - still completely underdeveloped. Buffy was a young adult at the end of the series.
