Should I do it??

Season 5 > Season 4.

IMHO Season 4 was a sham of a season. Season 5 is completely different to the first four.

I haven't watched any other seasons of Angel yet, but I have seen s5, because we sort of watched it after Buffy s7. As far as I can tell it's a good season in the sense that it has a whole bunch of good, sad and funny stand alone episodes. The Big Arc wasn't really convincing, but maybe that's because I'm not too much into the whole Angel thing. But despite that some of the big underlying themes were sort of lost on me, it is well worth watching.

Plus, Spike. With Angel. (sw)

WATCH IT ALL!
I kinda think Spike was season 5. He once again completely steals the show, it wouldnt have been half as good had he and Harm not appeared. Everyone else had went stale and Spike and Harm refreshed it.

sad but true. without Spike, the season would have been a big pile of meh-ness.
You should definitely watch it. Just so you can make your own decision on how you feel about season 5. It's very true that a lot of people are split on season 5. I personally love it.

I think I would feel sad if I was missing out on a whole season of one of my favorite shows! 🙂

I think season five was great.
I don't agree when people say it's less dark, season five includes the only episode of Angel that ever freaked me out.
Also, I think Angel had the best ending scene of a TV show ever, it was just beautifully done.
My advice; Watch it!

No it was Hell Bound.
Kinda freaked me out and things really don't scare me easily, so makes me think it's not all happy and shiney really.

Hellbound is the only episode I've had to watch from behind a cushion! :p
A lot of people tend to really love season five. I personally find it to be my least favorite season of Angel (probably my least favorite season of Angel & Buffy, actually) but that opinion doesn't seem to be shared by many. Even I find it to have some redeeming qualities though, so give it a shot if you're feeling adventurous.

I liked seeing Spike there. Angel finally had a peer. Personally, I preferred Angel S1 above all the others, since I think David & Glenn had better chemistry than any of the others. Probably because according to Boreanaz, Glenn & Christian Kane were his best friends and he didn't even socialize with the other cast members...

Well, you've heard different fans thatn I have! I'm gonna make a poll in the Inside Out forum and ask which is their favorite season, and there'll be loads! Ok, there are some people that couldn't stand S5, but I know like 75% of the Angel-fan population loved it. WATCH IT!

OMG, HUGE kudos for your Riley av!!! :D
I've never seen Season 5 of Angel. I got really disgusted around the 4th or 5th episode into Season 4 and stopped watching. Since then I have watched the rest of Season 4 and still am not sold on the fact that I should watch the rest of the series out of respect to the show. I was a big fan of the show up until Connelia, but then when I did watch the rest of Season 4 I hated the Jasmine storyline and I'm told that it only gets worse.
So should I watch it? Was it a really bad season, as I've heard so many fans say? Or is it worth watching?
I found Season 5 really disappointing for a whole variety of reasons, and I'm with you on the Connelia thing. Angel never really recovered from that dubious plotline and went downhill super-fast afterwards. Now that I have seen Season 5 and know how it all ends, it has kind of ruined my enjoyment of earlier seasons and I honestly wished I hadn't bothered to watch it. I can't say why without giving away major hints about the finale. Suffice to say, when my favourite episode from Season 5 was a tongue in cheek tale centred around Harmony, you can probably tell the pickings were fairly thin. Okay, so there were some slushy, mushy bits along the way, written to wring out some very contrived tears, and even a few extremely poignant moments to punch you in the heart, but essentially I felt that Season 5 was like Milk that was on the turn. You're tempted to take a chance and try it anyway, but you just know it is gonna make you urge "¦

It's an average season, but worth a look. Destiny, Damage, Origin and You're Welcome are four of my favorite Angel episodes ever. So it's worth watching for them.
It's a fairly convoluted season. A lot of time spent on stand-alone episodes, which seems pointless, when the final big bad is rushed in just two episodes. A proper story arc would have helped the show.
Spike is a fun addition, but doesn't benefit the Angel character a great deal. Angel is back to brooding form. He needs Cordy around him, she humanized him a lot. Episode 100, you will see how much she adds to his character.
The other characters take a back seat to Spike sadly, the Illyria arc tries to rectify this, but I think fails.
You might love it. I just like it.

I loved season 5.

The stand aloneiness was one of the stipulations for getting a that season but to be honest, I don't think they are that stand aloney.

There are quite a few subplots that run over numerous episodes.

The big bad is right there from the beginning of Angel - W&H and through out the season we're given many faces to them for Angel to fight, as well as the ones that are the 'Major players' that we see fight at the end.

I think season 5's issue was simply episode placement.

Why we Fight was a good episode, but out of place directly after You're Welcome (one of the best episodes of the show).

Cautionary Tale was my least favourite episode. It just seemed to regurgitate the season long story and was rather slow at the same time - though Spike is priceless in that episode.

Each season has its bad episodes so I have no issue with this season having one (two at most) and the rest I enjoyed.

Although the reasons behind CC not being in it all season are known, IF the premise of season 5 was always to have Angel questioning what he questioned, he couldn't have done it with Cordelia there.

Honestly, I am glad we had a season without her because she was Angels security blanket, we needed to see how he would cope without her.

Ok, I bought it. 🙂 I ordered it from Amazon, so it will be a few days before I get to start watching, but whatever. 😛

I can see how after watching Season 4 people might be hesitant to watch Season 5. But trust me, It's worth it! There are alot of really good episodes in Season 5. My favorites are definatly seasons 1,2,3,and 5. 4 was okay. But my least favorite of them all. I never liked Connor!

Haven't gotten it yet. 🙁 I'm getting antsy. I used to have no want/desire at ALL to watch S5 and now I'm itching to.

Ok, I got my Season 5 today in the mail!! I will be watching over the next few days and I'll let you guys know what I think in a few. 😉
