Should I watch "Dollhouse"?

I wanna buy the series on iTunes some day, and I wanna know if it's any good. Is it? How's Eliza's perfomance in this series? Is it up to par of her perfomances on "Angel" and "Buffy"?

How's the writing and the storylines?
 
The short answer is 'Yes, you should absolutely watch Dollhouse.' Hypocrite, that I am, I have only seen season 1 myself. Although I will be buying the 1 & 2 boxset in November after all of the other shows I have already pre-ordered show up.

The longer answer is, it's got a different feel to BtVS, AtS and even Firelfly, which to me feels very much like Buffy and Angel. I assume you know the premise of the show, so I won't bore you by re-hashing it, but what I will say is that because of that premise, each episode has a very different feel, with Eliza asked to do something different as an actor in every episode. What character continuity there is is interesting and adds to the overall plot of the show.

From what I have seen, I don't like Echo as much as I do Faith, or Dollhouse as a show as much as I like the others, but it is still very good and should be a part of any Whedon fan's collection on its own merit, not just because of Joss' name on the box.
 
Yes, I highly recommend Dollhouse. You have to get used to it first, but the story line is really great, in my opinion, and really original, although it takes a few episodes until the story is really rolling. It's pretty complicated and requires much attention, but it will pay off as we learn more and more about Echo and what the Dollhouse really is.

Eliza's performance is amazing. She actually plays lots of different characters and does this really, really well.
This show is definitely not for everyone, but if you appreciate my advice: Watch it!
 
Yes! Watch it. The show itself is...so bad at times, but it's also reallllyy good at other times. It's a great concept, and I'd watch it again, but yeah the episodes are definitely hit and miss for the most part. Although some of the bad ones are hilariously entertaining at times...heh. Oh and in my opinion, Eliza Dushku is really not that great of an actress. I feel like she's only good at one kind of role and playing a part that requires her to play at least 2 or 3 in one episode...just isn't her strong suit, again, this is just my opinion.

But some of the other performances are really good. Enver Gjokaj is so great at impersonating people haha he should have been the star! 😉

Oh and the writing is really great, at times. I'm telling you sometimes I'd think, ''Am I watching the same show??" because some episodes are seriously fantastic. It's a show that I believe everyone should give a shot if they're a Joss fan, even if you end up hating it by the end of it, the journey is worth it.

I like it. I'd say that it's my least favorite out of Whedon's shows, and it can get very out there at times, but it's a very cool concept that makes you think, and Eliza absolutely steals it. She's just amazing.

While she's great, it can be a little tough to invest yourself in like most shows simply because the lead is someone new every episode. They string the continuity together really well though, and it's a great story. I've just finished S1, and I'm looking forward to more.

I would say give it a shot. I don't think it's for everyone, but it's very good. And plus, Topher!
 
Is it any good? Yes it sure is. In my opinion. What's to say if you share my opinion or not. The only way to find out is to watch.

I like it so I'll tell you to watch it. Some don't like it and they'll probably tell you it's a waste of time.

Once again, in my opinion the show is uneven and does have a lot of the weaker episodes in the beginning of season 1. Weaker doesn't have to mean bad. It's all a matter of opinion. If you decide to watch it I urge you to at least watch the whole first season to see how you feel about the show.

One of Joss's strengths are having a great cast and some of the problem I have with the show is that it concentrates too much on Elizas character in the beginning. When we get to know the other characters the fun is really starting. Still, I find a lot of enjoyment from the first episodes as well.

As been mentioned, it got a different feel to it than Joss's other shows so it can take some time to adjust if that's what you're hoping to find. In my mind it's definitely worth watching. Actually it's the only show me, my two sisters and my nephew all loves. My older sister and nephew has only seen season one this far.
 
I'd not recommend it.

Dollhouse is a show about a corporation of rapists who violate human rights for profit and...destroy the world?! Like, seriously? The plot doesn't make sense and amounts to magical cerebrospinal fluid and cellphones, the episodes are mostly derivative ( obligatory evil super-soldiers episode, obligatory evil cult episode, obligatory dream episode, obligatory and oh so shocking *yawn* and random character deaths and so on ) not to mention pretentious and the direction and quality are all over the place. The characters are universally unlikable and the lead, like other dolls, she's not even a character, she's a brainwashed well, doll. To be honest, the show feels like a parody of a Whedon's shows but maybe that was the point?

And most importantly, it's a show about a brothel without sex. Yeah, just about as pointless as censored porn.

I'd say she's decent enough, with a good script and a good director she sure can kick ass. Sadly, those two don't happen very often on Dollhouse.
 
If you're a Joss Whedon fan certainly check it out, but even if you're not yes I would still recommend watching this show because of how unique and different it is to other shows out there.

Its not just your typical good guys vs bad guys show. There's a lot of shades of grey in it, and has an interesting concept at its core. Word of advice though don't watch Epitah: Part 1 at the end of season 1 if you decide to watch the show. It completely ruins the suspense for rest of the series since it shows you how everything ends. I assume they were thinking they were going to get cancelled hence why they spoiled everything and tied up most of the character arcs so early in the show. I'd recommend saving that episode till before you're about to watch Epitah: Part 2 at the end of Season 2.
 
I have been considering whether or not I should watch this myself for a long time, at first because of coursework and other activities I just didn't have the time and then when I was about to start watching it it got cancelled...that stopped me, I was majorly pissed when Firefly got cancelled and didn't want to feel that frustration and dissapointment again too many shows I love get cancelled, obviously Firefly, Jake 2.0, Kyle XY, Reaper, Jericho, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, Terminator: SCC and plenty more infact just as I was getting into it Do No Harm was cancelled..barely had time to get started. Sorry..just realised i went off topic just wanted to say I understand the hesitation.

With Dollhouse, even though you will feel the frustration that it got canceled, it does have a real ending, and they managed to bring pretty much everything to a satisfying, if somewhat rushed conclusion. It's nowhere near as bad as the ending of Firefly was in that regard.

Dollhouse is one of my fav TV show, absolutely great show, great combo of a mystery type show filled with action. Very different then BtVS or AtS but in a good way. Great great great cast!!! My favorites being Enver and Amy.

Lots of twist and turns and very entertaining finale, and keep in mind they wrote the show with very little support and were assign to the friday death spot (or else I believe the show would have lasted longer) so I believe they did the best with what they had.
 
I definitely recommend it, but I say keep an open mind while watching it. Certain episodes that sound like they're going to be great end up being incredibly weak. The story is not like anything else you're going to see on TV. I really think it's one of those shows that you either love or hate.
 
I've just finished watching the series- quite literally (5 minutes ago) and it's completely awesome. I love it! It definately is unlike anything else on TV and the concept is brilliant- it is actually kind of scary to think that technology like that could exist. I found the first episode to be possibly the weakest of the series but overall it's great. Cannot wait to do a rewatch already.
I would agree that the ending was rushed and there is one part I dislike immensely (won't say what though) but this show is very Joss and it's great.
Casting is awesome too. It's nice to see so many familiar faces and some newcomers too.
Cannot say enough about how brilliant I think it is haha.
