Should the show have ended after "The Gift"?

No, I think it should have went on and on and on... LOL Seriously though, there was still so much story left to tell for these characters. I would have been SO upset if S5 would have been the end.
 
While I do like S5, I'm thinking Glory - not such a big deal after the biggest evil in the world, and Buffy wouldn't have been able to handle the first, or say - Her best friend in the place of Glory. I like the order! I thought Spike got his soul at the perfect time, even if he did dissapear as things were getting dire (that's a little selfish if you ask me, although Clem was awsome!) and I'm a fan of the comics and I think if Buffy had died at the end of S7 it would've screwed it up a little bit. I like the finale, and i think everything went well. Overall, I think my fandom remains, strong and true 😛
 
There's something very wrong about ending a series about female empowerment with the heroine's death, heroic as it may have been.
 
I don't think so, Enisy...if she'd been killed...more specifically killed by a MAN...then I would definitely see your point. Even though I don't like the idea of The Gift as a series finale, I think Buffy's death would have been a beautiful ending...she finally managed to get the peace she'd been desiring for the past 5 seasons.
 
I am really happy it went on, and was disappointed it didn't get picked up for a Season 8, but it kinda felt like it was time to end the show anyway. If there was a Season 8, we probably would of wanted a Season 9, and so and so on lol. Let's just be happy the show ended with what i consider a great season. A lot of shows do not last 7 years like Buffy did.
 
I liked Season 6 and 7. I think that "chosen" was a better fit for ending the series than "the gift." Although "the gift" was great, it was also kind of depressing but not in a bad way as oppose to "chosen" which ended more hopeful and open ended. Plus, without Season 6 and 7, we dont get those awesome episodes like "OMWF", "Grave", "Storyteller", etc. am I right, guys?
 
I don't think that the show should have ended with "The Gift". For me, that episode - or the entire second half of Season 5 symbolized the end of Buffy's childhood to me. And ending her childhood with death would have meant an easy out for Buffy's character. One of the reasons why I liked Seasons 6 and 7 so much, because Buffy was forced to deal with truly becoming an adult. The two last seasons truly forced Buffy, Spike and the Scoobies to learn how to make the first steps into adulthood and I believe that contributed a great deal to their character growth.
 
I don't think it should have ended in Season 5, even though Season 5 was a better season and had a better finale than Season 6/7 it was too depressing. I like the ending of Season 7 better and felt it fit the show. Plus even though it goes downhill after 5 I don't think it went so far that it would be better if they didn't exist. I couldn't live without all the great episodes/moments/lines of the latter two seasons.

I don't agree that the show went downhill after Season 5. Buffy couldn't stay the way she was. She had to learn that being an adult was even more difficult than being an adolescent. And considering the nature of the show, she had to learn the hard way.

I would prefer that to BUFFY remaining the same during its entire 7 season run.
 
For me the First was the ultimate evil in the Buffyverse. Though I think poor writing and all those stupid potential dogs running around the place totally ruined season 7. The First was made out to be this all powerful, all big evil thing and it spent episodes just taunting people and doing nothing at all. I'd have liked it to have gained corporeal form, to have had its army reached the surface and plunged the town into some apocalyptic warzone.

God I so should've written for that show...

I personally love The Gift though I don't think it would've worked as the series finale. Whilst the whole Buffy/Spike affair bored me to tears in season 6, I understand totally the point of that season as it focused more on the dark sides of each character and let them all spiral out of control. I don't think you can compare the power of Glory to the hapless trio because I agree with what the writers have said. Life is the big bad. And to knock Buffy so far down as to take her mother away, take Riley away, kill her, have her dragged out of heaven and have to raise a bratty kid sister with hardly any money. That's a whole lot harder than fighting a God in my book.

I've probably gone way off here but I know what I'm trying to say I think...
 
I love season six and seven....i couldn't imagine buffy without them...Season 5 was great! And i loved Glory and i think Claire Kramer played her really quite well...although i know alot of people disagree.

I'm glad the series ended with the first...well glad in the sense that if it HAD to end and there was no other option... Sure there's evil but then there's the thing that started it..at the root of all evil you have the first! I'm glad it ended on such an amazing ending.

Plus with out season 6 there would be no more Once More With Feeling...and come one who doesn't like that episode!!
 
I actually wanted it to end with season 5, only after seeing season six and seven, just because I thought they were terrible and I hated the move to UPN 🙁

Also, The Gift would have been quite the majestic ending to a series.
 
I really couldn't imagine BtVS without having a season 6. It's that season that showcases the sides of the characters that we had yet to see - the dark sides.

Xander and Anya think they're all ready to be good and married but when it comes down to it, Xander is just a "scared little boy" and Anya easily finds her way back into the demon side of her.

Willow goes all drug addict with the magic and has the worst relapse I could ever imagine - and that's continuing the "what if" from season 5 since Tara had already brought it to Willow's attention that her magic was starting to get out of hand.

If Buffy had stayed dead when the series ended, I personally would have been none too happy about it. I mean, I really didn't like the little game her and Spike kept playing. Besides that, this season tested her relationship with her friends and Dawn in relation to what she was feeling but wasn't showcasing. That was interesting to see how everything unraveled. And I still find myself tearing up when she tells Dawn that she just wants to show her the world.

And Giles tries to leave how many times? I didn't really like that, seeing as to how close the Scoobies had grown. Sure, Buffy wasn't doing the things she was supposed to, however, that's when he should have put his foot down no matter what. She needed to learn responsibility if she was to survive in the real world.

Anyway, that's my two cents.
 
I think it should have. It would have been a good way to end the show. Buffy's dead, there would be no new Slayer, her mom was dead, Giles would go back to England...
 
Okay, whereas I really loved season five and The Gift was amazing, I wouldn't have wanted it to end there. Not enough closure for me with Buffy being dead and all, then they couldn't do any followups like comics or anything, because there'd be no main slayer to write about. It wouldn't be Buffy anymore. And without season six and seven, most of my favourite episodes wouldn't be there. You wouldn't see how Xander and Anya's relationship turned out after they got engaged or how each of the Scoobies dealt with Buffy's death or how Spike changed and got a soul. And you wouldn't have had Once More, With Feeling which seems to be most peoples favourite, or up there with the great episodes, and we just wouldn't have. Whereas I think The Gift was amazing, I really wouldn't have wanted it as the finale of the entire Buffy series.
 
I haven't see 6. and 7. season yet, so I just can tell- yes, I want more Buffy 😀

Just to give you balance I LOVED 6 and 7 so don't start watching with a neg tude. It's all good or better.
Def not. 7 seasons are not even enough. I do not wish for it to be cut down to 5. Seasons 6 and 7 are IMO not as good the other seasons, but they had some amazing episodes, especially the ones Joss helmed.
