Should the show have ended after "The Gift"?

Well Buffy does have that on-going habit of running away whenever the obstacles become too difficult. Season 2 for example. She sacrified Angel to save the world, and then she ran away. Season 5, she ran away. Metaphorically YES! When she jumped into that portal she knew damn well she had a responsibility as the slayer and chose to die anyway. She tried to escape her fate, leave her responsibility once again. So let's just face it guys. Buffy has always been the runner-type. Apparently, that's one visible trait Dawn inherited from big sis."The Gift" was a heroic and good ending for TV, but it also fell perfectly in line with Buffy's character.

I'm fairly certain I hate that opinion.
Definately not, season five the alternate plot line of holding off season 5 would not work season 5 is like a mile stone it change the show it introduces so many plot lines it brings a different light to the show. Everything anybody loves about season 6 and 7 would not fit. The show has so many themes and the changes from season 5 to 7 it allows the shows to develop and bring new aspects to the show that they could never have brought in season 1 to 5, season 5 is like a mile stone it change the show it introduces so many plot lines it brings a different light to the show i would go as far as they are vital. every episode is important and without it, it would not be buffy

It really depends on which episodes in Seasons 6 and 7 were worth it. Season 6 was much better than Season 7 IMHO. If it didn't continue, Buffy's death would've have been more emotional, but there are some really good episodes in Season 6, Like Once More With Feeling and Normal Again. All in all though, I'm pretty glad it continued.

I do think that The Gift is a better season finale than Chosen. it's not just because I love season five--and I do, I'm rewatching with a newbie now and loving it--or because I hate season six, Evil Willow and all that and only really like season seven for Spike. It's because, in my mind, what better way to end a show titled "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" than with an end to Buffy herself?

The Gift is based on a gigantic plothole, IMO, but nevertheless I'd rather have it as an end of the show than Chosen which is basically the end of a season that is not only full of even more gigantic plotholes but way more importantly is incredibly boring in comparison even with season 6, let alone seasons 1-5. And I'd much rather remember the main characters as basically nice people with some flaws than as the boring bunch of not too pleasant individuals they become later on. And don't even get me started on the general suckiness of the idea of resurrecting characters, especially if they are going to have the audacity to complain about it later.
Personally, am even better ending for me would have been Primeval as long as they dusted Spike before or after they disposed of Adam. Maybe with Restless as a bonus and final goodbye. But I am probably in a minority of one with this opinion. 😉
