Shows that should be rebooted

Just finished watching that this year. Shame it wasn't really finished.

Yeah I havent found much like it lately so it'd be good to see more
REBOOT:
American Gothic
Babylon 5
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Dark Shadows
Moonlighting
Wiseguy
 
No reboots please.

For Buffy a new slayer's story.
Maybe Charmed we could see new witches.
Roswell with a new character.
Angel, either a new story later on done well or characters that are related to them.

They still need to be done well with a good script or there is a chance they won't be enjoyable.

In case you haven't already seen, there are fresh Babylon 5 projects on the horizon. An animated film to be released soon (B5: The Road Home - released on VOD and blu-ray on August 15th) and the possibility of a rebooted series when the TV/film creative strikes get resolved.

I think Babylon 5 is more relevant than when made (I've also become more cynical sense then to believe that B5 is "best case scenario" for our future). But that very reason would cause it to be warped one way or the other, or cancelled.

Oh yeah, I've heard. And I am opposed to it pretty much with my entire being. That's why I said reboot. Don't F with the original story by retconning and changing history.
 
Carnivale is one that I think deserved more than two seasons, and its Depression-era angst might jibe well with modern anxieties.

A lot of good shows were dumped too quickly in the past, when networks had the power and popularity to do that more easily. I've thought it might be worthwhile for studios to comb through those old discards and see if some that were "before their time" would now be relevant.
 
Eh, I think it's a mixed bag. The Duck Tales reboot was fine. Next Gen Trek was fine. Heck, Buffy was a reboot of the film, that was also fine. I suspect the following rules are true

1. You need to act like you are the trustee of an treasured American institution, not a child with an IP toybox.

2. You need to shoot for high quality. Most fans will forgive a reboot if it is good.

3. You must wait twenty to thirty years. Most old media is easily available, and in good shape too.

4. You must have some tangible improvement over the original production.
 
The final season of 'the 100' should be remade...

Not sure if there's an entire series that I can think of.
 
Babylon 5 is a sad case, as the acting and story are still pretty good, but the SFX didn't look good at the time. It saddens me, that so many otherwise decent 90s sci-fi shows would still hold up, if not for the SFX, and the physical media sales that could pay for that type of thing are long gone.

Except for Lost In Space. Don't remaster Lost In Space, the bad SFX are part of the charm. I mean, the only people who still watch that show are Boomers who still wish they were ten and their parents were still alive. Which, to be fair. is understandable.

I almost listed 90s shows, but then thought I LIKE the 90s flavor, just like Boomers would like 60s stuff the way it is...actually, I do as well, and animation styles, and all that. Story and character >>> CGI. My imagination doesn't need CGI

I am a millennial and I LOVE Lost in Space. It is without doubt the most misunderstood show of its era.

Everyone goes on about how if only it had stayed a serious sci fi show it would have been better. Rubbish. Its second and third seasons were one of the first attempts to merge comedy and sci fi and fantasy together and it was brilliant for that reason. It had such a unique, crazy, offbeat and yes clever in a lot of ways sense of humour that could appeal to adults and children.

It was one of the main inspirations for Red Dwarf and Futurama. So much of both of those shows sense of humour comes from Lost in Space, by the creators own admission. Hell even a lot of Rick and Morty. Things it was doing and getting praised for, for being so creative and hilarious like Pickle Rick, Lost in Space was doing with the Great Vegetable Rebellion 50 years before, yet nobody ever gives it credit for that? Every ****ing review of Lost in Space in the same tedious, boring drivel of "first season is the only good bit of it" from so called fans. I yearn for the day when its sense of humour is re-evaluated and it gets its due.

When I read the Lost in Space wiki many years ago, I LOVED how even the dedicated fans willing to make the wiki clearly had a sense of wry humor about the show while still genuinely loving it.
Re: Lost In Space; Good points. It does confuse me that all the reboots go for the first season that nobody cares about, rather than the ridiculous talking carrots and the aliens with bowler hats and the robot, Smith and Will dynamic. I suspect it has to do with the genre's quest for legitimacy.

Personally I cannot wait to hear that Everybody Loves Raymond has been booted - what! Oh, you said rebooted .. .. sorry.

That show was up for comedy awards. It shows you what a bad state comedy is in.
The best shows to reboot tend to be the ones that had a good premise but never quite fulfilled their potential or were cancelled too early

Dark Angel - it was a decent show but although it had some interesting ideas and a strong visual identity I always felt it could have been even better

Jericho - again it was a decent show but there was so much potential which was wasted due to inconsistent writing and all the production issues

This Life (UK) - I enjoyed The original but this type of show could easily be rebooted for a new generation as long as they didn’t make it too PC

Freaks + Geeks / Terriers - they were cancelled way too early although what made them both so good was the amazing casts which might be difficult to replicate

Carnivale - surely one of the big streamers can stump up enough money to tell the whole 5 season story
