Shows That Stayed On For Too Long

Overall I'm not that keen on complaining about shows going on too long.
I rather take that than wanting more...

But I agree on a few that have already been mentioned.
Dexter - It was still okay but towards the end you could tell it wasn't much more to do.
True Blood - The last season, or even the last two seasons wasn't particular good imho.
Weeds - Got a bit out of hand when they moved from California.
Californication - Lost its edge and wasn't particular good either towards the end imho.

I can imagine that Charmed also went on too long. But I can't really remember any more how I felt about those last seasons.

And since x-files has been mentioned a few times I want to say that I must be one of few that really liked season 8 and 9.
Thought they did a brilliant comeback from the weak season 6 and 7.

I tried to watch the second of the hunger games films, but I just felt there was no way it was going to tell me much new. I get the premise, I get the idea from the first one. Its interesting, I just was happy to leave it at that. I know there were books beforehand that it is based on, but have not read them, so wouldn't comment on that. I guess I just wanted to get a taste of the dystopian world that Suzanne Collins created, I didn't personally want to delve into it more than that.

If you didn't complete the second movie, I strongly suggest you give it another go. It's by far the best of the series

Well I think that's the quality of the first film, u can just watch it as a standalone movie and leave it at that if you want. For me I love the hunger games that goes on in the second book/movie, it's much more fun and a different environment. But it ends on a cliffhanger, so it's not really a standalone film. knowing where the third book goes I can see why you wouldn't want to continue on. It becomes more about politics. Also the books go deeper into the dystopian world.
 
Theres quite a few I disagree with. I loved Dexter til the end, it had its ups and downs but I think it was a great show overall and glad it finished up when it did - although I wasnt sold on the ending, perhaps thats why so many people were disappointed with it in the end.

Supernatural has a lot of filler episodes but the overall arcs have been fantastic. Its been such a better story since season 4 onwards with the angels and demons and so on, Im interested to see what they do this season. It has a massive fanbase with the majority of fans still following it closely. To me its a show that could go on as long as the actors want it to - and many of the fans will stick around for the ride. So in that regard I think it deserves to still be on the air - although I think if they gave worldwide access to the episodes online (for a fee) I think they would do better than what the ratings show. I've noticed the later seasons are better on the second rewatch and if you can watch them in a marathon it works better than week by week.

Charmed definitely went on too long. I think ALL of the sit coms go on too long, I cant stand many of them after the first season. I love that the soapies are still going, its like a staple, it has to be on tv, some of us need our trashy tv fix without watching reality shows. I've been watching the Bold and Beautiful for 25 years, its not quality programming by any means but its a bit of fun (and I love Ivy, I watched her on neighbours and am stoked she got on B&B).

Heroes wasnt fantastic but it wasnt that bad, season 1 was good, s2 weird but it picked up in s3 then got weird again s4. Im looking forward to Heroes reborn. Glee definitely went way downhill after season 1. I havent seen Weeds, True Blood, Smallville or Californication past about season 4 for any of them, lost interest I guess (plus its hard to access them where I live). Im up to season 5 of Vampire Diaries and enjoying it MUCH more than the earlier seasons, I dont know how many more there are.

I havent watched Bones or Castle for years, they got very same same, Im surprised they are still going but happy for Nathan and David.

Scrubs should have finished season 7, maybe even earlier. Now I cant remember what else I was going to write after that spiel lol.
 
Supernatural - I don't want to say that it has been on for too long because I love it so much and am so attached to it that part of me would be happy to see it keep on going for as long as it can....but you guys might be right, it started to go downhill at season 6. Although, I must say, even though its not as strong as it once was, there are still some really good episodes, season 6 was crappy but it did have episodes like "The French Mistake" which is awesome, imo. I agree with @OccaQuokka - its much better watching SPN all in one hit instead of week to week. Every season since 6 I have been watching it and thinking "Oh that's it! They have lost it!" then I watch it all on dvd when it comes out and I like it much better.

True Blood - I started to get pissed at TB by season 5. One of the things I always enjoyed about the show was its over the top campy quality, the fact that it didn't take itself to seriously was what really appealed to me about it. Then the cheesiness stopped being ironic and was just plain stupid. I watched to the end though. I actually didn't mind the way it ended, two out of three things I wanted to happen did..... Jessica and Hoyt got back together and Bill died, haha.

That 70's Show - That last season was horrid! Stupid writers putting Jackie with Fez, ugh.

Dexter - The last few seasons were such crap. I really wish they would have incorporated more from the books.

I agree that the last season of X-Files was bull crap. I still like AHS though.

Yay! I'm happy Bill died and you saved me from having to watch it to find out. I stopped watching at the end of season 5. Once the fairie stuff became a massive weird part, I gave up.

The Apprentice springs to mind. It's the only reality/semi reality thing I enjoy watching but they ruined it by making it about a business partner. It means the outcome is known from the start and the whole process is irrelevant.

I would say it stayed strong to about season 7. They did change the format a bit after S5 where it became a bit less of a low-key sci-fi show, but I still enjoyed many of the stand alone episodes such as the Haunted House one. 8 and 9 were never going to be the same without Mulder and Scully. Don't know if you can include the films as them dragging the whole thing out too far. This is about the TV show. They could still have made a good film by itself, its just that it didn't work.
