Why do you feel that almost no character until Dawn showed up had any siblings?
Not Cordelia, Oz, Willow , Xander, Riley etc.?
I know Tara got to see her brother in "Family" but virtually outside of Dawn there was no siblings on the show

I guess the cast was big enough as it was. I am not a math expert, but if each of the core four has a love interest, and both the core members and the love interests have siblings, and the core members' siblings have love interests and the love interests' siblings have their own love interests and all of those people have their own siblings... That is some serious exponential growth.

As a substitute we got:

Spike and Angel are the best brothers ever!
The siblings may have been like the siblings in "No Assembly Required" trying to get Cordelia's head for Frankenstein's girlfriend or the guy who was too dumb to recognize the magic in the letterman jacket in "Him" or Andrew's brother Tucker who almost ruined the prom or Tara's family. When you are writing a story, unless it is a family ensemble piece like "The Waltons", it is best to keep the cast to a minimum or you get the situation of siblings requiring screen time and taking it away from the characters who are carrying the plot. The siblings would have been like the Potentials, draining the life out of the story. In a story I am writing, one main character has no siblings and another has a sister who is in college in a different state, who we never meet.

JW has very openly said, on many occasions, that the plan was never for Buffy to have a mom on-screen and you can tell from early on that Joyce was barely there for viewers to see, before Joss realized that a 16 year old girl would need a mother around more than what he wanted; I suspect that the choice to mostly use only children is for similar reasons. Joss also has a tendency to isolate most of the characters he creates and, spoken as woman with a sibling, it's difficult - though not impossible - to feel isolated if you've grown up with another young person in the household. Personally I feel that Tara only got to have a sibling because her brother was an ass.

And it's not just Buffy - Wesley is an only child, Fred is an only child, Gunn has a sister just so she can be killed off and motivate him to show up on our screens more now as an 'only' child; nobody has any siblings in this universe and I don't believe for a second that that was a coincidence.

That is weird how vamp bloodlines work.

The Master is Darla's father.
Darla is Angel's mother.
Angel is Drusilla's father.
Drusilla is Spike's mother.

Darla slept with her son. Her son slept with her granddaughter. Her granddaughter slept with her great-grandson. Her son and great-grandson both slept with Buffy.

Darla's granddaughter is now her mother.
Darla's father is now her great-great-grandfather.
Darla's son is now her grandfather.
Darla's great-grandson is now her brother.

Fool for Buffy
Fool for Buffy
Gotta love it
In my fanfiction, Drusilla refers to Connor as both her brother, because he is Angel's son, and also her uncle, because he is Darla's son and therefore Angel's brother. Of course, Connor is also Drusilla's grandchild.

If you want to take it really far, you could say that Drusilla is Darla's mother, who is Angel's mother and Angel is Connor's father, making Drusilla Connor's great grandmother.

At the end of my fanfiction, Spike turns a shanshued Angel back into a vampire. What that does to the Whirlwind family tree, I dread to think.

Joyce is Dawn's mother and grandmother.
Buffy is Dawn's mother and sister.
Hank is Dawn's father and grandfather.

If Buffy marries Angel, Connor is Dawn's stepbrother and nephew.

And yet still not as incestuous as Jasmine having sex with her father to give birth to herself and Angel having a dream that his granddaughter dumped his son after taking his virginity and had sex with him while pregnant with his granddaughter.

Of course Angel experienced "perfect happiness" in that dream. Jasmine was a PTB trying to bring about shiny happy people and world peace. Look what happened in Eternity with the happy pills.
