Sick of all the Xander Hate Going on!!!

I actually agree myself too, there's a lot of hating on Xander here. I neither get why...

I go through stages with Xander he could be annoying sometimes but other times he was sooo funny. I agree with DoctorWhovian S2 & S3 xander I didnt like much.

although he wasnt one of my fave characters he definatley derserved his place in the buffyverse.

I agree that there are other characters in the 'verse that are far less perfect than Xander...but he is the only one who has ever made me REALLY mad on repeat occasions. Faith and Dawn would be tied for #2...

It may also be the fact that Nicky Brendon has a very smackable face...hehe...

I guess I'm just such a nerd that I can see the good and bad in all the characters and have never really gotten "mad" at any of them... Well, except for when Angel left Buffy in S3, but whatever. I guess I have always just been like "He/She did that? No way!" but then I get over it... It doesn't bother me enough to write a big post on here about it.

I know I've been anti-Xander posting lately, but that's just because a thread came up about one of the two occasions when I really consider him an A-hole (Becoming II, the other being Dead Man's Party). I hate what he does in those two eps, I never hated who he is, and I never, ever wanted to imagine the show without him.

Well said I will say it again Xander is my Hero hes funny totally geektastic if only a man exisited plus hes the heart of the show like Willow is the Magic and Giles is the Father Buffy is the muscle . Without him or the other characters the show would not be what we all and love x

I am Quoting myself because I feel really strongly about Xander. I don't ignore his flaws I know he has them like every other Character but its the Flaws that a attract me to characters. Xander among them is not the most flawed but the least special which draws me more to him. Hes the Zeppo he useless part , hes not smart or even Magical in anyway. Hes just a normal guy putting his input to help . To quote Capt Hammer lol Everyones a hero in there own way. Xanders just mine . Everyone hates a character but I love to hate characters like Kate and Riley but like I said without them the show would not be what it is . There has to be a balance a ying to a yang or it doesn't simply work .

I really loved Xander in the earlier seasons, maybe it's because he was nice to look at back then, but after that, to me, he just seemed to get more and more annoying, I love ALL the characters in Buffy unconditionally, but certain storylines made me annoyed, like leaving Anya at the alter, also going crazy when he seen Spike and Anya together, what was it to him what Anya done? HE left HER.
But, he is, imo, a really funny character, made me laugh quite a bit, and in S7 when Caleb got him, I FREAKED OUT, I felt terrible for him, I think S7 brought back my love for the Xandman.

Well i like all the characters because they all make the show 🙂 there are some i dont like as much but if they bring out emotion in me then that makes them worth being in the shows imo.

My feelings exactly.. all of these characters are facets of the gem that is BtVS. (And that includes Season 8 as well).

Xander had his ups and downs, but overall I liked his character, especially later on in the show. He's a pretty cool guy. It would be fun to hang out with the Xan Man.

Just don't stand too close to any girl who strikes up a conversation with him. Xander's love interests are even more doom-prone than Buffy's.

Me too...Generally I love Xander but it is these two incidents that boil my blood. I hate what he did in those situations but I most certainly don't hate him.

The only character that I really think has no redeemable qualities is Kennedy😉

I understand why people got mad at him for certain things. Yes, he has the tendecy to say the wrong things at the wrong time and be an incredible ass, but don't we all? And as for him leaving Anya at the altar, I was so horribly upset over that for Anya, yet I still couldn't hate Xander for it. I mean, we saw why he felt he had to: he thought he was saving both of them from a lifetime of misery and regret, when in reality who knows what their life would have been like together...


I just love him. Maybe because I, myself, am a LOT like Xander in that if you knew me in real life I can be horrible sarcastic, a huge bitch, and completely random (sometimes all at the same time!)... I identify a lot with him because of his traits. That doesn't mean I completely excuse his worst moments in the show, but I can understand and accept them as part of who he is. 🙂

Maybe some of that hate stems from the fact that most people when watching BTVS got their kicks from a superhuman slayer, or a wicked wicca, or a vampire, or a vengeance demon...But Xander was the only one who was just ordinary. I dislike when someone thinks I overlook his flaws. I DON'T. I love that he has flaws, makes him more real. I think the episode I really hated Xander in was Revelations. But other than that, I can understand his motives and think they're not as petty as some may think.

It's quite scientific actually...some people just have faces that are more tempting to slap because it seems like it'd make a sharp, pleasurable "slapping" sound. Plus, Nicholas Brendon has the most adorable "deer in headlights" look...

I like this analogy, Spoons. Daffy is consitered to be the "best friend" and is definietly the screwball character.

The funny thing about Daffy Duck is he can be a crazy vigilante in one short and a greedy gloryhound on another. Also, physically, Daffy is quite round. He's also consitered to be a very versitile, brave and charismatic character. So, as you see, we do have similarities between Daffy and Xander 🙂

I'll chime in and say I am a Xander fan. He really is the "heart" of the Scoobies. Just watched "The Pack" again last night. It was shocking how awful Xander treated Willow. I know he was possessed, but still, hearing those awful things coming out of Xander's mouth was pretty painful. They way it resolved itself in the end made it okay, though.

I don't think people hate Xander because he hates Spike and Angel. I certianly don't hate him for that. Xander never did get over what happened to Jesse, and what vampires did to his friend will always color his opinion of them. I think people hate Xander because of the actions he has taken. I hate Conner. Not because he hates other characters, because of what hes done to warrant my opinion of him.

The reality of the situation is; without Xander, Buffy would be dead. He saved her life in 'Prophecy Girl', and saved the world in 'Grave.' I sort of see Xander as the quiet hero. He makes a difference but doesn't brag about it. Remember in 'The Zeppo', when he bravely prevents that bomb from going off, saving the entire student body? He never even tells Buffy or Willow about that. That was real. I admire him for that.

If he had got there in time, it might have been possible for Buffy to not have had to kill Angel. It might have not been necessary. Xander hated Angel, was insanely jealous, and his action in that instance proved how we was willing to do anything to get rid of Angel.

Regardless, Buffy trusts him with her life. He is her "strength." I truly believe that Xander is her best friend and always will be.

Very, very true... Even though I don't completely agree with why he chose not to tell Buffy about the restoration spell, the rest of this is pretty much dead on fact about Xander's character.

The only think i never liked about xander was in Omwf, he kinda let Dawn get the blame, he never actually said anything until Giles said something.
That kinda annoyed me, how he just sat and watched and never said anything,
Plus he kept going on how ' disturbing' the singing was, even though he just 'wanted a happy ending'
LOL.

But other than that, i LOVE xander. i really don't know how anyone can hate him or call him 'useless'.
