Sick of all the Xander Hate Going on!!!

I never really got the Xander hate which is strange because I can (sorta) get the Kennedy/Riley/Dawn love. Huh.
But they're all flawed which, I think, is the reason we can all relate and *that* is at least the reason why I love the show (apart from the humorous, heart-touching, sexy goodness of it). 🙂

Xander is the heart of the Scoobies, he tends to follow his heart, we as viewers very much like or dislike a character and no matter of his actions towards the main vampires or characters, if you make a poll with Xander's questionable actions, in the first place will always be "he dumped Anya at the altar"

I've never hated Xander, but I sometimes get annoyed with him. Towards the end of the show, he didn't really do much in terms of making a change or difference within the Scoobies. Honestly, he created more chaos than he resolved.

Awww, that's not fair. There were about 8,000 extra characters the writers were trying to squeeze into the storylines, and Xander was neglected...
Besides, he summed it up best in "Potential" with his speech to Dawn: "I'm the guy who fixes the windows". He didn't have any mystical powers, so he helped in whatever way he could. 🙂

I agree with Brit. I don't know what you mean by he caused chaos? The guy lost an eye, in a horrific way in order to help control that chaos even though he is only the 'guy who fixes the windows'.

I love Xander. Sure, he's made mistakes but don't we all? Personally everything he's done without any kind of special power or obligation far outweighs his poor sense of judgement at times. I think the 'kick hiss ass' was kinda annoying but he was young and his reasons are justified. As for leaving Anya at the altar? I think I might be one of the only ones who doesn't think he's a total scumbag for doing what he did, I really felt for him in that episode.

The only thing I have him with him is that sometimes he can be really hypocritical, 'Selfless' is the ep that springs to mind, which does in essence relate to 'kick his ass' but at the same time, in that situation, I recognise that it's always different when it's someone YOU love. He was always going to see the killing of Anya different to Buffy having to kill Angel because only one of those circumstances is about, or anything to do with, him.

You're not alone; I felt so horrible for him. Even though he knew at the end that it was a demon that made him see those visions, he looked at the life he had growing up and wasn't sure he wouldn't turn into his father, and he wanted better than that for Anya. He got cold feet, like a lot of people do when they're about to get into a deep commitment with someone... It was totally understandable, but still very sad.

I thought I'd posted in this thread before, but obviously not, so hear we are. I don't understand the Xander hate, to be frank. Xander always seems, to me, like the character most viewers can relate with (Well, I personally relate to Dawn, but I mention that and I get a lot of hate for, you know, being a Dawn fan. Dawn is cool, not a brat, 'nuff said 😉 Back to the Xanderness...), he was only human and he only acted human. He brought human to the most heartbreaking of moments, but no matter how much joking he did, he really did always understand when things needed to be serious. I loved him as a character, and I think that was kind of the point of Xander being there. He was very lovable...The hate is just beyond me. xD

I hated Xander in only two instances. The first was minor, in Becoming part 2 when he lies to Buffy about the whole Angel scenario, not because I'm a Bangel fan (As if) but because he lied saying Willow said 'Kick his ass' that was the first time I began to doubt Xander; he lied to one of his best friends, about the other. Harsh. The second was in Hells Bells - See my username for reasons why 😉 - because even though I knew that he wasn't ready, that he didn't want to hurt Anya and that he did still want to date, and although I can actually empathise with him more now after my brother did the same thing (That's a completely different story, which I probably shouldn't be discussing online. Heh.) I still hated him for doing that to Anya. The hate didn't last long, I mean, really, how can anyone hate Xander? Xander is awesome - He should just have married Anya, to make him awesomer.
