Please help my cause!

Signing online petitions is a waste of time and bandwidth. It's an example of "slacktivism," defined as an empty and pointless gesture intended to allow one to feel that he/she has in some way participated in effecting societal change without having to actually go to any expense or effort. Any time somebody asks you to sign an online petition, sit down for a moment and try to think of some other action you could take that would actually address the problem and would actually make some material difference.

It is ironic in the sense that you're signing a petition online to stop online petitions but not ironic in the sense that online petitions are a total waste of time, pixels and bandwidth. My completing the online petition to get Fox to continue making Futurama didn't work...and then I read the above article🙂.

"Slacktivism" is lazy and only serves to make the online petitioner feel better - get up off your arses and do something about causes you agree with, or at least give them money so someone can actually accomplish something good.
 
I'm too lazy to read the whole above article, but I disagree. I do sign petitions; they make me feel better indeed. I'm not going to give my money and since nothing useful is ever organised in the Netherlands, there's no way for me to actually get off my arse.

I just want to know on what ground you verify attacking my choices? (And I'm sure the choices of a lot of other people?)

As for my opinion I don't really care one way or the other to be honest but if I had to go one way or the other I would probably say that internet petitions aren't hurting anyone. Yes they may be pointless and waste bandwidth but half the things on the internet are pointless and a waste of bandwidth some would argue that having a forum dedicated to Buffy would be a pointless waste of bandwidth (I know shocking but they do exist). All and all I'm ok with people voicing their opinion even when it may be pointless which in most cases even in the real life sense it doesn't matter.
 
When I read the thread title, I about died. How funny.

I have never had a problem with internet petitions. I normally ignore them, because they are for a cause that I myself don't see as worthwhile. But, it must mean something to someone, and if people want to sign, then go for it. It's all just a matter of expressing your opinion.

I have signed two petitions in my life. One on paper, one online. They were worthy causes. In high school, the Principal decided that our senior class was not going to be able to TP at homecoming. We 'rebelled' signed a petition, presented it to the school board, and were able to have our fun. I signed an online petition to save Angel as well during season five.

It's just got to be a worthy cause, and it has to go somewhere... has to have some end in sight for it to be worthwhile.
 
Not a fan of online petitions, but don't care enough to make a stand. Besides I'm not one of those about to fight fire with fire. I've got some principles, not many, but the ones I've got I'm proud of.

WHAT. WHAT? What is this you are saying? NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! LOL.

I agree that petitions don't hurt anyone and that its pointless to try to stop them but besides that I like to see what new stuff people get enraged about. Some of the stuff is ridiculas and the people must have their egos deflated a tiny bit. 😀
