Significant others!

You're too young to be in a long-term relationship, anyway. Enjoy your freedom. You have your whole life to be tied down in a boring, monogamous relationship. 😉

Hey! I resent that! Not all monogamous relationships are boring or about being 'tied down'. Some people are quite happy, lol. 😉 😛

I've been with my partner for five years. He's my best friend and life without him would be very strange and not something I particularly like to imagine.

🙂

True. I was partially joking.
I learned that just because you love someone doesn't mean you can make it work.

Ahh, so true. My ex-girlfriend and I were together for about two and a half years, then realized how horrible we were for each other. We were in love but it just wasn't right when we argued horribly and blamed each other for a lot of things. Neither of us were happy.

Now I'm happily with my current boyfriend, Matt, and he's made me realize how relationships are supposed to make you feel. : D

One thing I'm not ready for in life at the moment is commitment, but I guess you never know what will happen. I know plenty of people the same age as me in stable long term relationships but I'm not in the right mindset to be exclusive at the moment. I'm enjoying my single life at the moment and am not looking for anything serious with anyone, never know what's going to happen though so I approach each day with an open mind and am ready to accept if I develop further feelings for people.

LOL don't get me started on this subject :| i'l be here forever complaining about my last ex 😛

Today in Borders bookstore, a random guy came up to me and started talking to me, we were talking about books, he was like 25, i thought he was just being friendly, then he's like do you wanna go out sometime? then I'm like eh i have to get back to school, he asked what year i was in, and i was like '5th' ' I'M 16' HA.
and I'm busy, it was so creepy. eek :<(

tip- Never date previous Friends, 🙁

This weird dude asked me out at the bar last night. *sigh* He was following me around for like two hours, going on about how "cool" I was, how "perfect" for him, etc..It was awful. He kept saying that it was so "weird that I was so myself, and that it was obvious I wasn't putting on a front." I was like, why would I fake who I am? All I want to do is sit here at the bar and drink my drink, lol. 🙂

More importantly, how could you "fake" who you are just by sitting at a bar and drinking a drink? Were you like.... drinking the drink in an especially drink-y way? Was the drinking being done the most perfectly drink like way imaginable?

I swear, some guys.....

Oh relationships. I was married for five years and got divorced about three years ago now. I having been dating my currently boyfriend for a little over 2 years now and I couldnt be happier. I am just so ready to settle down. I certainly am not getting any younger and I am starting to really dislike the bar scene.

Yep. The bar scene does suck. I like to talk to people for fun, but its not a great place to meet a long-term mate, that's for sure.
That is very admirable. What if you get invited to a wedding? You won't get to mark 'plus one'.

No but i can mark minus one. Because i won't be going 😀

You really should have screamed out, PEDOPHILE. Hilarity would have ensued.

Maybe we should e-date sometime? A romantic web-cam dinner for two perhaps?

Dinner for two? Are you gonna be a gent and pay, or will you be going Dutch?
My girlfriend's pic is in my profile pic. We have been going out for 4 years. Her name is Laura. We're in college together. She loves Neil Gaiman, Lord of the Rings, comic books, Socialism, and campy horror movies. I got her into Buffy and Angel, and now she has bought the DVDs and is collecting "all" of the comics.

Neil Gaiman appreciation!
I've got a boyfriend. But he's like, really annoying. I went to a party and he was checking up on me. I don't talk that much with him because I'm busy with school and he's making a big deal of it, because I don't have much time for him.

Who are these people in your banner? They're cute.
Oh, a thread where I'm encouraged to talk about my significant other? 😀 Have I mentioned lately how much I love these forums?

But anyway, as many of you know I have a wonderful girlfriend named Tara. We met when I started High School and became close friends right away. After working through a couple years of ex-girlfriend drama we started dating, and the rest is history. This Valentine's Day we'll be celebrating 3 years together. And I think we've managed to strike a good balance between friendship and romance; can definitely see the two of us gals settling down some day 🙂

As for what the lovely lady is like: she's a Canadian Citizen with an English/Irish background (and the curly hair to go along with it! 😉). An aspiring writer with a knack for music, and loves spending time in the great outdoors. She's a great listener and a very supportive partner, with an quiet sense of humor. And she's mighty cute, if I do say so myself! 😀

I don't think we've ever told you not to talk about her have we? But on the other hand maybe not encouraged much either. You can make your own Tara thread in VH. ;)
Single, and it's hard for me to imagine that changing anytime soon. I'd kind of like to be in a relationship, but it's been about two and a half years since I've been seriously interested in anyone. I also live in a fairly small town and most women are either too young for me or too old (lot of high school girls or women who are forty-plus years old....would it kill a few twenty-something females to move to this town?). My recent experiences with a lot of people the last couple years has made me very cynical as well. It's hard for me not to see the worst in people anymore.

It was really bizarre. He's like, "Why aren't you drinking a fruity drink like other girls?" (I was sipping a whiskey) I wasn't sure how to answer that. Then he told me at least three times how much he knew I was "right person for him." My BF Johnny was like, are you kidding me? This guy is wayyyy too desperate.

And get this. He texted me like 5 times today! Ugh. I must have given him my number last night. Oops.

Dude, it's way too much work to not be yourself. Lying requires a far better memory then I currently have.

I would love to have a e-date with you, lol. Frketson...would you be my official e-boyfriend? 😉

Man, I could have written this statement, seriously. This is exactly how I feel. I think that it would be cool to be dating someone, but then I think about all the sh*t that's involved in getting to know someone, and I just get tired thinking about it, lol.

It's so hard to meet people here. It's strange to live in a city with so many people and so often feel so alone. I have a lot of friends, but no one I'm really seriously interested in. I'll keep looking!

I know what's it's like to live in a small town. I lived in a small town called Port Townsend for 5 years, where everyone knows each other and everyone has dated everyone else. It was terrible. Everyone knew my business.

Maybe he got it off an AIDS-walk list or something?
No. I'm pretty sure I drunkenly gave it to him.

Bad things like this always happen when I attend .25 cent beer night.

Sigh.

She is rad. We're both majoring in history: education, but she is doing elementary education and I am going to teach High school history.

Cool! I plan on going into teaching, too. :)
I'm not into exclusive commitments, for both psychological and philosophical reasons - still, the sitch is such that I really can't honestly call myself single for a bit over a year now, and I'm cool with that. 😉
I'm the same. I have been seeing the same person for two years, at first we really didn't define ourselves as in any type of relationship, we just hung out. Then we broke up and got together again last december, that time around we decided that we actually wanted to have some kind of relationship, and the last year we have been kinda monogamous. But we don't define our relationship that way, and we don't talk about us as a couple. Many things have happened during the last months though that have brought us closer together (after many fights), and we've started being more like a couple. Though I would very rarely refer to her as my "girlfriend".

And I met her here on BB so that's kind of a fun sidenote.
Hehe I know too many people who have met their girlfriends here on BB. Back in the days when I was super active on BB (and when I had "girlfriends" in that sense) I met not one but two girlfriends (at different times though) here, and well, I know many with similar stories. It makes me all happy.
