Six Nations Championship

So today's matches are France v Ireland, have to say this does not seem to be the Ireland that were playing last week as its only 0-3 (to Ireland) as i'm posting this. Currently not looking good for Ireland's Sean O'Brien, who is gone off. He's my favourite as well, what a bruiser, and a farmer no less!

After this, Scotland v Wales. Must admit I don't fancy our chances, defeatest attitude? Not if you know our squad. Then again if Ireland are not playing like they were last week, Wales might not be either...and we better not be!

We've not beaten them in this tournament since 2007. Far too many Irish casualties in this match, does not bore well for next week.

I'll stick with my thistle. I'm not going out to watch it, usually when I go I have it painted on in glitter paint. But its in Wales so no go this week 🙁

Can't believe Nigel Owens is only reffing one match. He is assisting on today's Ireland match.

Oh dear indeed. Its typical that we are not expected to win and actually come close. First off an improvement from last week! First half was really good, apart from that Welsh try whom most people agree should not have been allowed. You have the TMO, use it properly! The last two Welsh tries should never have been allowed and they seriously need to fix that.

Hopefully Hoggy is ok, there was a mistake in the first half where if he had been spotted and given the ball he would have been off 🙁 Ah well. I did get into an argument with my mate who suggested my fave player should be replaced due to a few mistakes. As I pointed out (in a non biased way) they simply don't have a replacement hooker as the other two are not of his calibre.

I try not to get angry after these but I was fizzing.

Just curious... is it the same thing as the American football? Or there are slight differences?

It's a lot different to American football, a lot rougher too!

I'm watching the Italy v England game, England needs to stop giving penalties away.

That's debatable!! It's a different kind of brutality. American football has more impact and forceful hits but rugby is more 'playground' violence. If that makes sense. They are just two different kinds of 'rough' play.

Basketball however may be the most brutal.

Whilst I agree that there is a different kinds of brutality I wouldn't agree that there is less foreful hits and its more playground violence. It depends on the teams, some are a lot more aggressive than others and we don't have the benefit of padding or helments, although some positions do tend to wear slightly padded hats now. Some say that the padding an helemets make things worse but as i've not played AF I can't comment.

The style of game is different, but i'd rather face an American Football team that I would the All Blacks.

Also most rugby fans will tend to say that their sport is rougher and better and vice versa. I just turned on the England game as I was out running. Is Farrell still doing his demonic posession kicking face?

It's been scientifically proven; the average american football hit has 4x more force upon impact than rugby. But I was not meaning to imply that rugby players were sissy folk or anything when I said 'playground' thats just the easiest way for me, without the knowledge of rugby terms, describe it.

Thats ok, I know you were not implying that. When you say it has been scientifically proven what studies are these? I don't ask because I doubt you, I ask because i'm genuinely interested. Obviously there is a reason there is more padding and a hat, i've seen some football plays and how dangerous they are (so no i'm not basing my opinion on Friday Night Lights). Have you seen the new movie Concussion? Looks quite good.

I'm also not biased to 'our sport' and yours, i've tried to watch football and I just find it boring, same with our soccer.

I don't know if you are aware but the rugby that you will most likely have seen is Rugby Union. Rugby League is a much faster and harder hitting league, then there is the Sevens which tends to be faster.

I am absolutely by no means an expert, I tend to do what I usually do when I don't understand something. I'm reading the laws and regulations of the game. They even have citations and hearings! I knew I should have followed through on that Sports Law module of my law degree.

I saw one years ago, actually by a university. But ESPN sports science did one where 4ooolb impact was the average NFL hit and 1000 was the average Rugby League.
