It disturbed me greatly to see the slow and painful destruction of Sarah's original figure throughout the series. I understand that she was young in seasons one and two, and that we tend to lose our "baby fat" as we age, but in the seasons after, especially season five, Sarah seemed to be SO incrdibly THIN. He jaws jutted out, bones showed, arms were TINY TINY. It was almost sickening. I used to adore her figure, and it made me feel better about myself to see someone of normal size. But she lokos almost sick in the newer seasons.

Thoughts? Comments?

I would completly disagree, I think she looks amazing in the later season, no where near too thin and fairly toned!

I can't say that I noticed her looking ill.

She definately looked thinner than in the early seasons, but not ill looking thin just slim.

So I gotta agree with Black Eye Guy that she looks amazing in the later seasons. In fact I think she looked amazing in ALL the seasons!

I have to agree with BEG too, I can't say I noticed that she had gotten thinner. She looked normal enough to me. Perhaps a bit more toned but certainly not anorexic or anything, there are stars out there that are thinner...*cough* Lindsey Lohan *cough* Nicole Richie *cough*.

I agree that SMG got thinner, but I never remembered her looking ill. I do think she looked very good in seasons 2 and 3 of Buffy but she still looks great in the later seasons. But Silve I know what you're trying to say because if you look at SMG in season 1 and then go look at her in season 7, you can tell she lost A LOT of weight. But I still think she looks great.

i gotta agree with slive. especially when you look at the dvd covers (in the US at least) she just looks too skinny. i think she looked amazing in the first 3 seasons. 4-5 she was getting alot skinnier but still looked decent. 6-7 she just looked like she was gonna break in half if anyone touched her. and just because other stars are too skinny too doesn't make it any better. i think just about everyone in hollywood could benefit by gaining about 10-15 pounds.

I think she looked fantastic in all the seasons. In the earlier seasons she obviously still had some of her baby fat because she was young and then as she started to grow up she started to slim out.

I always thought she looked healthy!!

Sarah Michelle Gellar did get thinner over the course of the series but it's only in Season 7 that her appearance actually makes me wonder. Her thinness really shows in her eyes-they seem sunk into their sockets. The picture on the Season 7 section on the main page of the Bufffy Boards is typical-sunken eyes, hollow cheeks. It's enough to make me uncomfortable watching her in some of the episodes.

They say the camera adds ten pounds. If that's true I wonder what she would have looked like face to face. She isn't the only one though, I imagine Alyson Hannigan and Emma Caulfield might look mighty thin off camera.

I have to agree with silve. I much preferred her earlier figure. I don't think she ever looked ill exactly, but I don't really find her any where near as attractive in the later seasons. It's in season 6 where she worried me a bit, but that was maybe because she was going for a paler look as well. Thin, pale, the sunken eyes and hollowed cheeks that watcher1006 mentioned, and she also looked much older. Pay attention girls, thinner is not necessarily better. She seemed better in season 7 though.

maybe its my inner anorexic, but i thought she looked great, especially in the final season. she was cute in the beginning, and beautiful later on. especially when her hair was longer in the final season.

I'm with you!!
She always looked great. Beginning to end. She of course lost a bit of baby fat, but it never looked like she had any, it looked like she worked out hard and toned her body. She looked more like a slayer closer to the end. Lean and muscular.

It does need to be remembered that Gellar is quite small. The height usually quoted on fan sites is 5' 3" and I would hazard a guess that she might even be an inch or two shorter than this. The "ideal" weight for a 5' 3" famale is anything between 105 and 130 pounds (as a very generalised rule of thumb), depending on all sorts of different factors. I would guess that Gellar is probably around 98-105 pounds, which does not really lead to any serious cause for concerned.

Don't forget that she is extremely active and spends a lot of time in the gym - and probably did so with great dedication when she was making 'Buffy'. It's very likely that she has a carefully controlled diet. Let's face it, were she to suddenly put on a few pounds she would be accused of being fat. It happens now. I have seen examples on posting boards of this very accusation in response to pictures taken at odd angles, etc. Either that or ridiculous rumours are started suggesting that she is pregnant!

There certainly is evidence to suggest some weight loss between the third and fourth seasons of 'Buffy' and it has been said that she was working herself too hard around the time of the final season, with a few concerns expressed that she would make herself ill if she didn't take time out. Having said all of that, look at pictures of her from the time of 'All My Children' or 'Beverly Hills Family Robinson' and it becomes clear that she has always been very petite.

As others have already mentioned here, she lost some "baby fat", but it probably wasn't anything more than that. Personally, I think she looks very healthy.

I love her looks especially in season seven and about her figrue i think that she looked very healthy and fit she was cool

I absolutely agree with you here. And not only is she very short, but she has a very slight and petite skeletal frame. Because she never looked anorexic to me..just very tiny. And I also agree that Alyson and Emma probably also looked very tiny in real life. They just happen to have different body types so perhaps it wasn't quite as obvious. Also..the clothes they put SMG in were alot of sleeveless or shortsleeved tops..wheras Willow was often in fuzzier type sweaters and long skirts. Not as noticable.

I loved SMG throuhgout all season. She was a little bit more curvy in earlier seasons, and totally slimmed out later. I was never alarmed by her thin appearance... she is a tiny girl. Some people are just like that. They have small bones and don't look like they have any mass.

I still think that she is the most beautiful woman on the planet. She looks very sexy, especially skinny.

No doubt Sarah Michelle Gellar's role as Buffy was a physically demanding one. Literally bruising-it's well known that she did many of her own stunts. I heard on another forum that some of her outfits in the late seasons were chosen to cover some of those stunt bruises. I've never heard anything about her having eating disorders or abusing drugs, the kind of stories that circulate around other women who are extremely thin. I suspect that the physical rigours of playing the Buffy role and keeping in shape to play that role sufficed to deplete her body of fat without her purposely starving herself.

I would not dispute that she was beautiful from the beginning to the end of the series. I just don't think that getting thinner improved her appearance beyond a certain point over its run. I agree with the point made by Tucker's cousin-she did look much older in the late seasons. Even in Season 1 she was not a child-the series started production in 1996when she was 19. I think she'd pretty much lost her "baby fat" by then. I think that a lot of the early changes in her face could be attributed to the process of maturing-decrease in subcutaneous tissue (not that I'm a dermatologist lol!) Later as her face continued to become more bony, I think that was also due to her becoming ever more lean.

Her figure changed too, although late in the series her outfits were more concealing. I don't know what she would have looked like in Season 7 wearing some of her outfits from Season 1.
