Slang Specifically In Angel

Hi all,

some of you remember im doing a presentation on Angel in my Cult T.V. and Audiences class. Well, the date looms... Friday i have to go (it's Buffy day so she schedule me to appropriately do my presentation on that day).

I am talking about the "cult" factor of the show in my presentation, and i wanted to cite some slang (i think the lexicon of both shows are a huge "cult" thing cuz we all know we talk like them now!), and i know Buffy has tons but what has specifically arisen in Angel (for give me, im watching the series only for the second time now, its been a long time)? I don't want to use Buffy examples because, well, that doesn't work!!!

I'm blanking right now. Any examples come to your minds?
 
There's a lot of adding -y and -ness to words that wouldn't usually take them. Like "Splainy?" Then there's the -age suffix, as in "kissage."

Edit: No, wait, that's all Buffy. I really can't think of anything from Angel.
 
yeah that's really a tough one. i can't think of any examples in particular and i watch Angel a lot. - Cordelia brings Sunnydale slang to LA with her and many of the characters have a particular way they use words but this is more character based rather than an Angel-specific lexicon.
 
well im bringing up what you said, BB, because im fairly certain Cordy has used those suffixes a couple of times. and adding "much" to the end of sentences....

But character specific might not hurt, if you can give me examples.

"Comshucking" is an Angel-specific word that is quite popular among fans. lol.

Anything from Pylea, I think, would be Angel-specific, so referring to humans as "cows" might work. Anything related to the Powers-that-Be, prophecies, or to Wolfram and Hart might work, too. I know Wolfram and Hart had some pretty specific lingo that sort of mixed lawyer-speak with magic mumbo jumbo. I'd go back and look at heavy W&H episodes.

But yeah, Buffy is the show with a specific lingo. The characters on Angel all have very different backgrounds, so each character speaks in a way that sort of reflects that background. On Buffy, they all sort of grew up together or made their homes in the same town, so they all speak similarly.
 
Cordy pays tribute to film noir at least a couple of times, I think.

Maybe it's time to pay your stoolie a little visit. Make with the chin music until he canaries... I've been watching a little noir festival on Bravo.

Gunn's got his slang, and he gets pissed when when Angel or Fred or whoever tries to use it. That comes up a fair amount.

Edit:

Actually, Angel's voiceover narration at the beginning of "City of""”very film noir. Angel narrates again when he "goes bad", in Season 2. Lorne narrates "Spin the Bottle", season 4.

Narration doesn't come up as much in Buffy.
