I know the site Slayage.com has been mentioned here but I am just wondering if any writers from that site are also members here or if anyone ever reads the articles (what is the plural of thesis) or whatever that are posted on that site.

For anyone out of the loop, slayage.com has a bunch of very scholary types writing about the impact of Buffy on various aspects of society like feminism and popular culture etc.etc.

I really like the site even though a lot of it goes way over my head. This came about due to University classes offered around the world where it is actually possible to take Buffy as a University level course.

Also, if anyone thinks you are weird for watching Buffy you can always say, "well Buffy studies are offered at Oxnard University - can you say that about "Friends?"

I have read quite a few of the articles and they are very interesting!! I think Buffy Studies is absolutely amazing and I'm glad people are taking the time to write high-quality articles about the show.

I used some stuff from Slayage for my Master's thesis (the plural of thesis is theses, by the way). They're pretty good. I'm working on a paper (sort of) that I hope to submit to them some day. When it's done. Eventually.

I'm a big fan of Slayage. I used a lot of articles when I was writing a paper for my masters. I have an idea for a paper but i don't know if i'll ever get round to having a crack at writing it. maybe next year...

Me too, actually... I have a rough outline. It's hard to write anything that hasn't already been said at Slayage or in one of the many academic Buffy/Whedon books (several came out only this year) but I'm trying to add a perspective from my own research that would be new, I hope.

I've used it quite a bit for my PhD too. Never managed to get the automatic updates though, despite mailing David Lavery about 4 times!

Most of the articles are well written and argued. Whether or not my supervisors think I should be using them is another question. They suggest at my level they aren't targeted correctly and are too 'fannish' - not enough critical distance and academic objectivity! But I still try and slip one in every now and again....

There's a sister volume too aimed at a younger audience... Watcher Junior.

Have any of you read Spike's fictional thesis by Lydia Chalmers? I'm about halfway through it and it's pretty freakin' cool 🙂

Also, glad you brought up Slayer Watcher Junior. I just discovered that site and just read a very good article on there about Buffy and Spike. I highly reccomend reading it if you're interested in Spuffy. It's not that long, but I feel really well-written.

I wondered what it was that made him think it was okay to steal everyone's thunder in "Superstar," but still left him good enough that he didn't get into the Trio's hijinks (when they turned bad, anyway).

^ Got it already, just haven't had time to write it. He has an external locus of control, which means he doesn't see people's accomplishments as things they worked hard for, just things they've had handed to them through the luck of the draw. So he doesn't understand that he's violating them by taking their accomplishments for himself. Other than that, though, he's basically a good, caring person who gets understandably upset when people start dying.
